Unpopular question. Borderline insane question for most people ... Isn't Quintero more talented than CR7 in terms of natural ability? Maybe I should re-word my question. Should Quintero be jealous of CR7 in terms of Natural ability?
@TheOnlyTaps
@TheOnlyTaps 3 месяца назад
@@dnlp89 I don't think it's unpopular to be fair. Coz it depends how you frame talent. If we are talking with regards to being naturally gifted. For example Quaresma was more talented than Ronaldo but Ronaldo became a better overall player. So I think the same could be said of Quintero coz on a talent level he's above Ronaldo but Ronaldo over his career was miles better. As the saying goes something like, "hard work beats talent when talent isn't hard working." So yeah sometimes we come across these insanely talented players that just don't end up having maybe as glittered a career as their talent deserves and it's also credit to the hard working guys who sometimes don't have as much naturally gifted talent but work themselves into better positions than those more gifted players. I think it only becomes unpopular when people frame talent beyond that when they just focus on players who are good on the ball but don't have an overall game etc coz that now depends on your role, like if you're a defender we don't necessarily need you to be gifted on the ball and you can still be world class etc
@dnlp89
@dnlp89 3 месяца назад
@@TheOnlyTaps Great response! I prefaced my question with saying that it would be considered unpopular because too many people can't look past the statistics and the accolades to give my question a chance. I'm glad you also don't see it as far-fetched as I do. Ronaldo's effectiveness throughout his career is undeniable buy players like Quintero have this magical appeal to their game that I just can't describe. The way his body moves when making cuts, the defense splitting passes, and his precise shooting ability make him a great player to me. Certain players are just so aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Quintero's talent to me should have made the world's elite clubs. In terms of talent, he doesn't have anything to be jealous when it comes to CR7. As you said, it seems as the work didn't match the talent being that he struggled with mobility across the field. I like that you mentioned Quaresma. I share your sentiment. He was a joy to watch in those early to mid 2000s. He was definitely someone else who left you feeling like his talent deserved a little more. 👍

I do think we can win but it will be down to the mentality of the squad. Being on such an undefeated streak especially after beating certain countries during said streak is a sign of how well Colombia has come. Yet Colombia tends to bottle their potential at any tournament due to pressure and poor discipline. Oh and terrible coaching; missing out on the 2022 world cup was ironically the best thing to happen to us because not only did we have justification to get rid of a terrible coach and replace it with a very capable coach, we were able to re-organize our squad and players in a matter that has made us achieve postive results.

The strikers need to light the fire. Borja was in large part responsible for that seven game goal drought that killed their hopes for Qatar. So he couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to make up for that provided he brings his current club form to the Colombia shirt. If not Borja, I can see Cordoba being the guy. He’s also in his prime, he scored a header in the last game and is hungry to catch the attention of the big clubs.

Falcao is washed now sadly, Cuadrado was a strange omission
@christiankook9614
@christiankook9614 3 месяца назад
Falcao could never get back to full form after his injury in 2014 (which is a shame), and now after all these years he is already too old and is a good thing to let newer players refresh the roaster. Cuadrado just recently came back from a long injury and is also on his last years as a footballer. Jackson is already retired.
@Lampropeltis32
@Lampropeltis32 3 месяца назад
Falcao and Martinez are done. They are old enough that father time has slowed them down. I don't feel bad about not having Cuadrado. He was fast and was good at scoring when the right opportunity presented itself. I do think he dawdled with the ball a bit too much. This team, without Cuadrado, looks to be much crisper in passing the ball on one touch. This is an excellent team. Gonna be a fun tournament.

Lol. I do kind of fear them because they are the only other South American team that's actually playing like a team and that is good at creating scoring chances for their front. But the last match we played them, they were kind of given the equalizer goal against Colombia. Los Cafeteros seem like a more aggressive and seasoned team than Uruguay.

Luis Diaz is overhyped af. And a disgrace for Liverpool. A winger up front who is not capable of putting aerial crosses, who has tunnel vision, who holds the ball on his feet excessively, who cannot score penalties and who tends to be selfish and lacks clinical finishing.

Hey! I'm only halfway through the video but this is a seriously amazing analysis! I do not think we are favorites to win (In my opinion those are Uruguay and Argentina), however I do think we will be the dark horse of this tournament. Our key matchup will probably be Uruguay either in QF or SF, and if we beat them Im confident we can become champions. Still tho, we are historic for freezing against the giants, so if we can get over those ghosts (and I think we could this time, I can feel it in the air) I think we can be champions.
@alecabg4350
@alecabg4350 3 месяца назад
By the way, Lucho is our difference maker but we do have many key factors that people underrate because they're not as known, but Carrascal, Quintero, Sinisterra, and Arias (and James of course) can all make a HUGE difference in a game when Lucho is not performing, for example, in the 5-1 against the US, I dont feel like Lucho played well at all.
@alecabg4350
@alecabg4350 3 месяца назад
Personally my Starting XI should be: Vargas, Mojica - Cuesta - Lucumi - Munoz, Rios-James-Lerma, Diaz-Borre-Arias. I think Uribe will start over Rios most games. I do agree that our CB is kind of sus, but we should be fine everywhere else. Borre is a great presser and supportive no.9. Arias usually does not get that many goals and assists for us because he plays further back than with Fluminense, almost as another 8

Thanks! My only fear with this team is the past performances with Colombia, because now there's a lot of hype with this team it will be interesting to see if they perform or revert to what has been Colombia in the past and underperform

I'm biased, but Lucho is equally important to Colombia NT as James. Match with Spain showed that - they are 2 key players. Yaser is amazing, but when Lucho and James were substituted, Colombia's dominance changed to Romania almost equalizing. What worries me the most is center forward. To me the best choice is Jhon Cordoba. He seems good but not Falcao's equal. He also has better stats in NT than Duran, who seems like ok choice. Borre and Borja are very average. So - starting eleven: Vargas - Munoz, Lucumi, Mina/Sanchez (I prefer Sanchez), Mojica - Rios, Lerma - J.Arias, James, Diaz - hopefully Cordoba. Predictions - if Colombia will not be wasteful in attack, they can reach final. They have solid defense and midfield if Lucho or James are not injured. Brazil is still finding their mojo. The toughest opponent will be Uruguay. But if Columbia will turn more attacks into goals - reaching final is a reasonable prediction. Whether they will figure out how to be efficient strikers or not, if Columbia will be eliminated it will most likely be in penalty shootout. If Colombia reaches final and: 1) starts scoring more goals, it will be 55% for Argentina (assuming match will be fair from referee side) 2) keeps playing average in attack, it will be 65% for Argenitna. Ceiling - winning whole tournament, Floor - losing to Uruguay in quarter of semi final. EDIT - grammar.
@romeoduque7297
@romeoduque7297 3 месяца назад
Borja is currently the top scorer in south america , how is that average?
@xK0VI
@xK0VI 3 месяца назад
@@romeoduque7297 I was talking about NT. Though he haven't played in NT since 2022, so maybe now he would be better. Anyway, his average score then wasn't special. Anyway - better than Borre, so I apologize for this comparison/putting them in the same level. If you look purely on club statistics, James shouldn't even be called, yet when it comes to international matches, he's still one of the most valueable players.
@MichaelTalksFootball1
@MichaelTalksFootball1 3 месяца назад
I believe Borja should start the man is on fire right now for River, plus there's many options of the bench to change the game! But definitely the ceiling is winning this tournament and floor could still be a group stage exit cause Paraguay are a tournament team.
@xK0VI
@xK0VI 3 месяца назад
@@MichaelTalksFootball1 Small update after friendlies - I'm more confident about midfield subs for Colombia. Sinisterra and Quitero looked particularly good and advantage didn't collapse without Lucho and James (like vs Romania). Speaking about those two - Lucho played even better than I expected, James slighty worse (he really cannot score lately, can he?). I stick to Cordoba being starting striker, though Borja didn't have much opportunity to shine (after fight in 67th minute there was too much tension and strategy to secure good result). Machado was also pretty good. Players I'm worried about are Uribe (seems like the weakest player in the squad, but Lorenzo lets him play), Mina (was ok yesterday, I'm still worried after bad performance vs Paraguay. Lucumi is much better) and Lerma (good overall, but had mistake vs Romania and yellow card yesterday). Overall - things look even better for Los Cafeteros.
