Randy the Northstar engines actually were really good from 2005 and going forward. GM revised the headbolts and used headbolts with coarser threads. I actually had a 2005 and 2006 STS-V with the 4.4L Supercharged Northstar and they were super reliable. I also had a 2005 Bonneville GXP and also had the 4.6 Northstart and was very reliable as well.
A friend of mine that flips cars tried selling a 06 DHS with low miles, and good shape. Because of that motor's reputation, he lost money. He said never again.
yup, always see 06+ cadillac dts northstars with 180-230k miles with no issues, besides the oil leaks from the gasket in the middle of the engine, all seem to leak there
That A Class I would love to see come to the channel. It's something you don't see much of so it could make for some good views. Also if you ever planned on selling it, it could make a profit as it's still pretty new. Thanks for another great video!
@@pidhsome See how the door doesn't line up? It's twisted the frame not just the A pillar. Yes it could be fixed if you have the equipment, but I doubt anyone would as it's not worth the effort.

For having driven an A Class as a loaner for a week or so it’s a fun little car other than I find it not very smooth in stop and go traffic because of the dual clutch.
I feel ya on the Escalade, nice vehicles, but people assume you have lots of cash. A few years back, someone hit my Suburban, so I needed to replace it. A dealership that I do work for had an absolutely beautiful Escalade that they were going to give me for the wholesale price. I turned it down for two reasons...this was going to be a work truck, and I knew that I would cry the first time I ripped the carpet or spilled paint in it. Also, I knew that my predatory ex would see it and immediacy file for more child support. 😞
Great video, as always! Get the Yukon Denali, if you can. It’s condition will scare off many potential buyers, and a really good interior detail (Maybe by the guy who did your flood mustang?) will fix the interior right up. The frame may have a little bit of damage at the rear mount of the lower control arm, but very easily fixable. If I could afford it, I would jump all over it. The F150 is a bummer, but also pretty easily fixable, if you don’t mind all the dashboard removal, wiring harness replacement, etc. I would love to repair that one, but then again, I’m an Automotive electrician and body man, so I look at these things a little differently, having done the work many times.

I have a question, when it comes to 'mechanical' damage causing a total, what exactly is that/why would an insurance company total a vehicle due to mechanical issues? Would that be like if they had an extended warranty and the warranty company didn't want to pay to fix an issue? I didn't know insurance companies have coverege for mechanical issues that wouldn't be covered by a warranty. Or is 'mechanical' if a cat gets stolen (or is that vandalism)?
Hey randy they didn’t put the diesel in that generation of Yukon. You’d have to get a newer body style for that and those are expensive. Also keep in mind those diesels are slowww. With only 277 hp

I know they revised the head bolt design on the NorthStars from mid 2004 & up however I understand the skepticism. Too bad it wasn’t the XLR-V & it would have 450Hp & 415Tq!

I got a 2017 Silverado with the cylinder deactivation and I bought the cylinder deactivation delay or it’s like a little range thing and it keeps it in V-8 mode all the time I haven’t had a wicked trouble out of it since I’ve done that it runs a lot better has more power and only lost like 2 miles to the gallon

I have always liked the styling of the XLR but as soon as I discovered it had a Deathstar under the hood, I decided "no bloody way". The horror stories about them makes me wonder on a near-daily basis "what the H were they thinking?"
Randy I have the 3l diesel in my 2021 Silverado feul economy when not towing is amazing but put a load in it and yea not good. Has a hard time pulling my 7000lbs camper. Also it will have that stupid auto shut off when stopped.
