How curious! I went 100% carnivore in late January if this year, 2021, and discivered on my own, my COPD symptoms are all but gone. I used to rely on two daily inhalers. Now? Seldom even find myself reaching for the rescue one. I'm so glad you have found bona fide research supporting this theory. I eat beef, eggs, butter and water ONLY, 2mad and I'm fit as a fiddle at 73 years young!
My wife has had asthma since childhood, often needing an inhaler. In 2007 she was involved in a serious car accident that left her with a 40% loss on one lung, now on a daily inhaler and frequently a rescue inhaler. She was on several meds including gabapentin. Just doing one flight of stairs was difficult. When she witnessed my health improvements with my RA and another autoimmune disease with Keto she secretly began Keto. In 2 months she was off all meds including her inhalers. Since her car accident her annual lung function test showed at best holding her own, but a decline in performance was typical. Just 6 months after she began Keto her annual lung function test was due, and she showed a 16% improvement, and that was while off her inhaler. Her respirologist had never seen diet improve anyone's respiratory condition. She's been doing all day mountain hikes with me now, and the smoke from our annual forest fires no longer bother her. 2 years after Keto was her next lung function test, a 30% improvement!
I am sooo happy to see this video! I am a respiratory therapist and when I was in school I learned that carbohydrates create CO2 and I never understood why nobody recommended low carb/keto. I’ve never heard anyone say this!
3 month ago my lungfunction was at 30 % now after 2 month of ketovore and intermittent fasting I'm up to 50 % . I'm 63 and my lungs have been bad almost my whole life ...I'm so happy .. Thank you Dr Berry ♥️
Carnivore diet is the best diet in the world!! Cured my: Attrial fib. , Diabetes, H.B.P. ,Lost 106 lbs. & feel better than my whole life!! & I'm 60 years old!!👍💪
Yes, but to lose weight vegan one is the best, but the problem is often vegans keep on decaying after they are in it for the long term. Were you vegan before?
As a retired respiratory therapist, I know we learned about high fat, low carb diets for COPD patients. I can’t wait for the carnivore docs to start presenting at the Respiratory conferences! This patient population is desperate for Hope and things that will help them. COPD conditions create a very slow dying process.
@@robertlobianco8917 …hi! I graduated in the mid 70’s also! I still sub at the school where I taught for 30 years. My students refer to me as Grandma Pat! (14198# NBRC). I think you got registered a bit earlier than me! I’ve taken a deep dive into nutrition since retiring. Had to unlearn soooo much!
@@haloSrising it was years but its sneaky because in summer he'd feel he'd live another 5yrs and in winter just got worse and we basically live at the hospital. I guess it depends on each individual. Keto had given me back my life in many ways. I can't believe what I can do some days
@@miriam2909 Hello, first: I'm very sorry for your lost.. I have End Stage COPD, diagnosed 2014.. And I was feeling the same way as your Husband. A little bit better in the summer. But the winter was something else. The past 2 - 1/2 years have been some of the hardest times ever. And the last 14 to 15 months, I've been on my back, unable to breathe and unable to move.. I'm 59 years old, tiring 60 in October.. I'm getting ready to start this Diet and see what happens.. At this point, I'm willing to try anything. I really want to be able to see my Grandchildren grow up a little bit longer.. My Blessings to you , prayers for you to be able to have a wonderful long life.🙏❤️
Sixty-one years old, 6ft, I had 160lbs to lose to look like anormal human being again. Seventeen weeks into keto, 41lbs+ lost and I can climb several flights of stairs without a care or concern in the world! Taking several supplements to help with my type II diabetes. I'm still experimenting with the diet, supplements and intermittent fasting but so far I feel great!
I have COPD. I started keto about a month ago. I've seen a significant improvement in my symptoms. My friend has a very steep hill leading to her front door. I climbed it yesterday for the first time since keto OMG!! I climbed the hill in one go. I was very slightly breathless. Before keto, I had to stop twice on the way up the hill and by the time I reached the top I was very breathless..almost to the point of passing out. My theoretical understanding of keto is now proving itself in the real world. And I've lost 15 pounds. KETO 👍👍 EDIT 1 year later: A *drastic* improvement in my COPD. I can walk for *MILES* without getting breathless. (Also lost 70 1lb of fat).
Nope. My doctor believes that meds fix all and losing weight is "eating 1200 calories in moderation and mostly carbs" which is one reason why I want to get to my goal before seeing her again. While I still get asthma attacks because of my allergies to my cats and the fires that forever burn here in California, after being mostly carnivore I no longer need steroids for my asthma and I only replace my emergency inhaler once every couple of months instead of twice per month. Vitamin D3 seems to help as well. The daily inhaler was raising my blood sugar, which she doesn't believe either. It's good to be in the know.
Good for you! Carb is not the ideal diet. The US food pyramid is a scam. Your dr. has been conditioned and trained by the medical system that she works for, so it’s no surprise what she believes and says.
@@kittykills5854 I wish but with my budget and insurance I’m pretty stuck and all the others hate beef or are vegetarian. I just use mine to get the ok on tests and real emergencies.
@@splatterdaynightmares I share your pain. I had a really great doctor about 10 years ago, but he left his practice to teach at a university. I haven't been able to find a good doctor since. About a year and half ago I was about 20 pounds overweight and the doctor tried to prescribe me weight loss pills about 3 times during a 10 minute conversation, even after I told her "no" the first time she mentioned it. I was also hitting the gym 3-4 times per week for 30 minutes of weight lifting and 45 minutes of cardio and had no medical issues, so I felt her repeated recommendation that I shove shiny new weight loss pills down my throat to lose 20 lbs. when I was otherwise healthy and in good shape to be especially egregious.
This is actually true. I have been on a ketovore diet since February and noticed I am not as short of breath as I used to be. I was prescribed Symbicort and did not take the inhaler AT ALL! Reason being is, it causes weight gain from researching but I was already on my diet. I thought losing 30 lbs might have had something to not being so short of breath. Oh I also quit smoking in Oct 2020 so that might have helped also. I am 66 yrs old.
Absolutely true! I'm into Keto now for the past 4 months, Severe COPD, oxygen at night 2 steroid inhalers, along with the rescue inhaler. I haven't used a inhaler in a month. I've lost 35 lbs and have started walking and riding my bike. I'm a 67 year old male. I have a VA Doc. appointment next month. I can't wait to show off! Thanks Dr. Berry
This is 2 years later, I hope you are doing well and still watching to be sure you get low carbs.......I bet your VA dr. did not act as happy as you hoped he would.....not sure you will see this, but give us a report if you can...
I have early COPD, but yeah. This year has been bad as I was constantly sick and always coughing. Eventually antibiotics came into play as the fluid build up got infected. Doc gave me an inhaler and also some pills to help dry things up at night. Prior to, I had been taking Benadryl to reduce the night time choking, basically. The round of antibiotics did their job but I was still coughing tremendously. I got my blood panel back and WhoA super duper diabetic. I knew what to do. I threw myself into ketogenesis and as soon as I was at that point, the night time coughing stopped and I set the meds aside. Within a week all my coughing was gone even though it has taken longer to bring my blood sugar down. One of the symptoms of diabetes is a particular type of fluid build up in the lungs. The sputum from this has a distinct signature. I wasn’t sick from the COPD as much as I was from the diabetes! The fluid reduction in the very beginning did the trick. I’m on carnivore and I’m staying on it!
I was recently hospitalised due to an asthma attack, and when I told the lung doctor that sugary foods are one of the things which exacerbate my asthma, she pretty much dismissed the possibility. She gave me a stronger inhaler but it was too harsh on my lungs, so I have gone back to using my less powerful one. As someone who suffers from chronic inflammation, the greatest exacerbation, and indeed, what I believe to be the main cause, is a lifelong terrible sleeping pattern. Whenever I sleep poorly or work nights my symptoms (which include nasal polyps) are greatly worsened, and whenever I sleep good or work days my symptoms greatly improve. Hopefully, healthy sleep, keto, and intermittent fasting can resolve my ailments and get me off the inhalers...
🙋♀️ Chronic respiratory infections, severe year-round allergies, more medications than I could count, even had croup in my 30s! Started clean keto 6 years ago, haven't been sick a single time, and now take zero medications. I don't even have seasonal allergies anymore!
That is an awesome testimony! Thank you for sharing! How long did it take you to get there? I've been on it for around 4 months and am still fighting chronic bronchitis almost daily if I don't take antibacterial supps every day!
Awesome! Same deal for me. Keto diet has yielded huge benefits including no more allergies! No more crappy expensive allergy pills. I'm out in parks and woods all the time now problem free and feeling strong.
@@jenisecoronado5555 try a table spoon of manukah honey 🍯 when you first wake up in the morning and let it soak in for about 15 minutes before eating or drinking anything. I got mine at Costco for $31 , but so worth it, you’ll start feeling a difference in a week, definitely by week 2
I was diagnoised in 1998 as allergic to gluten. Since eating carnivore, I'm off both inhalors so I eat very few or no plants. I now do crossfit, 4-5 days a week without using any inhalors. I never smoked.
This really gives me my hope back . I have COPD and it's been very hard the last five years . Have been on keto for 14 days but want to go all in on carnivore. Thank you ❤❤❤
We are very lucky to have the internet and RU-vid for a vast education on almost anything today. But you do have to be smart enough to weed out the schmuck's though..
@@LauraB.335 sorry for your loss. My wife's health was failing from a poor diet, lack of exercise, lack of sleep, depression from a horrific childhood. She contracted CoVid in January and never stood a chance.
Thanks Ken my mum died of this wish I knew what I know now . I've been following this diet for a while . No more psoriasis no more psychological meds, no more epilepsy. No more arthritis. 52 and fittest I've ever felt mentally and physically. God bless xx
Hi there first of all congratulations, may I ask what type of psoriasis did you have, I get scalp psoriasis and have tried many shampoos but none have made much of a difference, I've also just been diagnosed with adhd I'm not on meds for that. Cheers
Was on inhalers for 20 years - for asthma. Coughed ALL the time. People thought I was Typhoid Mary. So embarrassing! Started keto, and about 30 days in, I just stopped coughing. Life changing! Thank you!
On behalf of your million and a half subscribers and probably millions of others getting the knowledge you so freely share, I want to say a great big giant THANK YOU and God bless you Dr Berry for everything you do👍🏼💯❤️
Also reference James Nestor’s book Breath, a look at mouth breathing vs. Nose breathing and how this influences the respiratory system and so much more.
THANK YOU FOR COVERING THIS!!!!!! FINALLY someone has addressed this issue!!!! I have genetic emphysema COPD I'm missing the alpha one protein in my dna. NO my doctor hasn't suggested any diet with me! No one ever answers my questions!!! Especially with being on steroids and inhaled glucocorticoids!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!
I wish I found this sooner. My Mom is in a nursing facility for COPD and O2 desaturation. Since we have went off keto due to financial reasons, she's been getting worse! I pray that I get back on my feet SOON.
i was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis a couple of years ago. Always had respiratory issues, phlegm, a lot of coughing and easily fell ill during cold outbreaks. the symptoms decreased when i went keto a couple of years ago, but since going carnivore i haven't felt a single symptom of it. It's magical in a way. and my pollen allergy completely went away!? didn't feel anything this year.
I am going to try this again.I had a bad flare up in November..I’m only 49 & they put me on oxygen.Since my oxygen is low I absolutely have no energy.Im exhausted all the time & have been home bound.I have no life anymore.Im going to try diet, melatonin & ginseng & See If it helps.
🌷🌷Please can you add to this a segment on preventive corticosteroid inhalers. 🌷🌷🌷 I found research saying they increase the chance of getting T2D and also make it more likely to get pneumonia. 🌷🌷🙏
I thought my asthma and bronchial symptoms were improving because I've been doing breathing exercises and humming. I started doing those about the same time that I began doing lower carb/higher fat diet but maybe I'm going to try and focus more on keto/carnivore. By the way thanks Dr. Berry for getting me to not be afraid of salt, my energy levels love you for that.
My pulmologist said there’s no such thing as breathing exercise to improve my moderate copd..only confirmed copd 8 months ago. Rx Respimate inhaler has worked so well..noticed big improvement just 5 months…maybe he’s right 🤷♀️
Hi Dr. B. I'm 68 and just got out of the hospital 1 week ago because of a COPD exacerbation from the dark side. It makes for a very grateful Thanksgiving today. I'm wondering about getting carbs from fruit which I love and has much nutritional value. I don't like many vegetables but I do like salads and enjoy fruits on them such as mandarin oranges, grapes, chopped apples, you get the idea. Is this alright instead of carbs like breads, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc.? My friend on strict KETO says fruit is bad but I don't believe that. What say you?
My grandfather died of this in a nursing home where he and my grandmother, who later died of dementia, basically subsisted on mediocre restaurant food for the rest of their lives.
@Attmay So true! I work in a nursing home and the food is so high in carbs bc it's cheap. Also ...no good oils so that is contributing to terrible inflammation in our elderly 😢
Well if the restaurant food was mediocre as you say, you had to take your grandfather to him to feed him well not to sit and die in the asylum like a dog and then you want to inherit shame
🤣🤣🤣 I just had labs done & mu carbon dioxide was low in my blood🤣🤣🤣 ex 43yr smoker. Carnivore pretty much solid year & keto for 2 ✔💪💪💪 post AF/MS/BII & Cancer for the moment 🏜 i did just decide to stop testing all together, go back in time 200yrs & just let nature take it's course living my best life & let the ending be a surprise 😀
I love your way of thinking . You are now my favorite philosopher. 🙏. I pray for you to continue being blessed with a much better quality of life.. And pray that you will be blessed with a long life as well. 🙏👍❤️
i was diagnosed with COPD three years ago. i've been keto for nearly 11 months and have noticed an improvment in my breathing. i just put this down to losing weight never even entered my head that it was helping with the inflamtion in my lungs as it has in the rest of my body. really informative video.
I am a pulmonary NP, I try my best to educate patients about low carb, high fat diet as I am following that myself. Not going to lie it’s very challenging to convince them to do so.
@@carriekassick7311 NAC is an amino acid. People say it's good to protect you against covid and helps repair many things but I bought it primarily to loosen up mucus. Amazon and other stores recently stopped selling it but you can still get it at iherb and other stores.

Thanks you for being a physician and sharing all that you do. A great many doctors might take a lesson from you on helping patients, about care. The care seems to be missing. Thank you.
Dr. Ken, can you please make video about Serrapeptase. I use it last 4 years, no pains, no inflammation, my C reactive protein is 0.5 I am 70. No conditions no medications Over the years I resolved with Serrapeptase sinuses post nasal drip, plantar fasciitis, hemorrhoids...
Hi. Not sure if this is the right place. I’ve been in a low carb diet for a while and noticed the benefits personally. I’ve just been told that a family member has pulmonary fibrosis. Maintaining a healthy weight is recommended. The individual has been eating a low carb diet as they’ve previously suffered from gerd and reflux. It helped. Would a carnivore diet be useful and, if so, what are some of the possible benefits? Thanks.
I have a question: my brother has COPD but is very thin and can't afford to lose any more weight. How can he go on the carnivore diet without losing pounds he can't afford to lose? (Before anyone says "Just eat more", that's problematic since the more he eats, the harder it is to get his breath...) Any suggestions?
Stay off sugar totally for 3 days and your tinnitus stops completely. Then....after 3 days eat a piece of candy. You will instantly have severe ringing in your ears. And you are totally correct about COPD. Quit sugar totally for even 2 days and your breathing is 100% there. Then....eat a piece of candy and I immediately started wheezing. I swear to God it is an absolute fact about sugar.
My husband has COPD symptoms. It is getting worse with age. He quit smoking 10 years ago. He is going to try keto and then go carnivore. He has horrible pollen allergies. I have autoimmune and also want to try it. Our biggest issue is stress eating carbs or when were dysregulated. Working on mental health is important to be successful.
I've been on a keto/carnivore diet and fasting for 6 months and it has been simply amazing for my lungs and COPD. I can walk up hills again. It's still a bit of a struggle but I can actually do it!!! Thank you for being brave enough to say this stuff out loud!!!
Thanks I was actually diagnosed this past December. I had a scary attack that even the ER doc thought by symptoms was Covid, but it turned out was stage two COPD, which they were surprised by due to my age 39, and also my x-ray showed that my lungs didn't really have any visible damage despite my tobacco use of over 20 yrs. They KP told me it could be minimized but that it couldn't be reversed due to it being scar tissue on the lungs or bronchial tissue. I have only been told to use my inhaler and quit tobacco which is happening but have heard absolutely nothing about diet or activities. Also could the cause of my COPD be caused by the exposure to meth being cooked in my presence when I was a child.
This is great timing! I found this out for myself this summer. I had elevated liver enzymes in January and, in fact, was referred to a specialist. On my own (after seeing some of your videos) I started a low-carb/high protein and fat diet. My LE improved a great deal and I lost 25 lbs. But another benefit was that my adult-onset asthma (I am 62) improved immensely! I no longer had coughing or difficulty breathing. It was great! I had to hike 3 miles for my son's wedding and was able to do so with no real problem! But they are vegan and so my diet changed drastically for a week. I began to notice the breathing problems come back slowly and weight on the stomach start creeping back. So I realized it was my "keto" diet that had made the difference. When I first had elevated LE, the doctor gave me information on a diet quite different than the one I learned from you. I went with the keto-type diet instead and it was the right decision for me! THANKS!
Spiritual food let's turn to God let's repent and ask for forgiveness let's study God's word and thank God for sending Jesus and all he's done thank you God! Shepherd's chapel on Theseasonorg explains the whole Bible God bless
I had been on seritide for 5yrs until I started doing low carb diet due to diabetes. This has also helped me in COPD symptoms to the point where I rarely take seritide anymore.
I don't have, but I just watch everything you put out there in case I need to know! Never know who might need me to know this!💕Thanks for all you and your beautiful lady do to keep us in the know!
I had that for a long time. I went real strict carnivore and it cleared right up. Turns out I can't have nightshades or peppers or any store bought spices. I can sleep with my mouth closed now! never done that in my life.
Thank you, Dr Berry for this enlightening video. I have COPD and use a prescribed inhaler. I was wondering why I was having fewer breathing episodes lately. You gave me the answer. I have reduced my carb intake lately and for the last month I have taking Melatonin at bedtime.
My dad passed away of COPD 3 years ago. No doctor ever told him about low carb or keto. He ate lots of Honey Nut Cheerios every morning trying to get healthy. We know that doesn't work
I can vouch for what you’re saying Doc my oxygen absorption level on my last doctor visit blew me away I knew my labs had improved, and all that other had improved that I didn’t expect it to have any effect on my COPD whatsoever so that really blew me away
Thanks so much for this information, no one ever told me about the diet having anything to do with our breathing problems, my husband and I suffer from copd disease, I just know that this diet will help us, God bless you! 🙏
How come your not talking about covid19 injections and the risks. I love your videos, but it's time to educate us on the things that they government don't want us to know. It's time to speak the truth. Thanks Doctor. You are a great man. 👍
I have COPD and can NOT use an inhaler due to Tachycardia so my Dr. has not prescribed any medication or recommended any diets to relieve symptoms. Thank you for this information. I'm going to try all of your suggestions.
How do you find quality supplements, one RU-vid channels hocks something then you shop Amazon and there's a hundred different variations. one I bought was a combination 300/500 mg then another channel says the proper dozing is 100x that and the junk on Amazon has no returns. It appears throw something out there and take the money and run.
My doctor didnt advice what to eat as a copd patient😢she just said no shrimp chicken no perfumes, powder, fabric cond.😏Im not using my inhaler, not consumed the second one.I just exercise, take herbal supplement
You have to try it yourself for 1-2 -3 days and compare the results. There is no other way since individuals are different / unless you are overweight.

Have you heard of the buteyko breathing method? It states that by holding breath builds up CO2 and therefore allows the O2 molecule to break away from hemoglobin. Without CO2 the O2 would remain on hemoglobin and not be transferred into the cells.
Being diagnosed with copd here in west Virginia is like getting dumped in a rabbit hole. No information on diet or anything just here's an inhaler good luck
It would also help if they quit smoking.. my husband has it and is smoking 🚬 more now since being diagnosed. He says he wants to enjoy his life while he can. Same with his alcohol consumption. 🍸 And he refuses to change his diet. All his food is carbs and a lot. It's so sad.

I grow ginseng and I make tea from dried stems by clipping my plant tops. I put it in tea bags and make tea like making regular tea. It has a really calming and relaxing effect within an hour. Not the greatest of tastes. I know you are talking about the root, but I sort of stumbled on to how the tops effect a person. Or myself anyways. I will be clipping my tops either today or tomorrow as it is my way of hiding the root from ginseng hunters. August 1 being first day of ginseng season here in my part of Arkansas. Thanks!
Drs never recommend low carb. I got steroid induced diabetes that goes high while I sleep. What does he recommend? Metformin and diabetes association diet....im taking low dose metforim but not standard mg as it gives terrible water poos.
This is good information. MY partner has COPD but got it from Pulmonary embolism lung scarring. He has about 50% lung capacity. He didn't get COPD from inflammation by smoking but he was a high carb guy before we started intermittent fasting and now the carnivore diet so his inflammation is reducing. I would love to see him be able to live longer before the COPD gets progressively worse.
Wow , on the basis of this video I was interested in the relationship between high carb diets and lung disease , and found a piece of research by Professor Wu at the University of Texas ( 2016 ) that showed that high Glycaemic Index diets increased the incidence of lung cancer in non smokers ! What knew ?
