Hi! I just wanted to say thank you so much for this! I am 13 years old and my little brother is 11. He has irlen syndrome and he is really struggling in year 6 at school. I’m trying to do research so I can understand and help him in my free time, so this has helped me so much!
That’s amazing that you’re doing that! What an amazing sister. I’m so glad you found the video useful and I hope your brother starts to find ways to help cope with it. Any questions you have, just let me know! x
For those who use an iphone, it's actually possible to get a tinted background in the accessibility section in settings - it's not the best filter but better than nothing! Also definitely worth asking school teachers (or uni etc) if you can lower the brightness on interactive whiteboards and ask them to email you the powerpoints and other stuff if you have trouble copying from the board quickly (I have convergence insufficiency too so this is extra difficult) - I hope that's helpful for someone out there!
I'm in early 40's and now been diagnosed, have my first coloured glasses. They are amazing, this is quite a trip. So now I can see .. Read and join a friendly world... Thank you for this video.
I wish I had a better report these months later. I can't stand the colour which is pink. Why oh why do I get pink and surely there must be another colour. Yes the world looks kinder with them but the problem right there is the lenses lower my own resistance to brightness, I wish I had never ever booked the test. Yea I can read better but as a man walking around with pink lenses I hate it. I look like some gay trip head. No offense to gay trip heads but man for the gains against the cons it's outweighed by the cons so bad. Places I have gone for years and already built a resilance to these bright places taken away by these lenses. Now I can't bear to go there without them but with them I feel like a mental idiot. So I don't go anymore and recluse further into myself. What appeared as a help I'd always dreamed might come, is now a complete nightmare.
Hi, thank you so much for this video. I just got diagnosed with irlen syndrome last week and have a colour test tomorrow. This video has given me so many tips and tricks. Thank you so much your the best.🙂
I've been studying for a very important exam on my computer and I'm finding it super hard recently. I totally forgot about the use of overlays and being tested for the right shade when I was younger. I had never thought about downloading a filter for my computer and I could cry at how brilliant and helpful this will be for me. I can't thank you enough!!
This is so helpful - thank you! It's also so nice just to see someone talking about Irlen syndrome because sometimes it can feel like no one understands it / knows about it! I also use a pink overlay :)
Thank you so much for all these tips and for raising awareness! There isn’t a lot of information on irlens out there atm. My ot is going referring me for a diagnosis rn, she is pretty certain I have irlens and so am I.
Yeah I agree, there’s not much out there. I did another video about it all, in case you haven’t seen! And I think irlens is one of those things that once you hear about it, you know straight away that you have it, it was for me anyway! 😂 So glad you liked the video! 🖤
@@sarahlwalden yeah totally! My ot met me and at the end of our first chat was like ‘I think u have irlens’ and I had no idea what it was but then I googled it and I was like ‘why has no one ever suggested this?? This is 100% me !’ Will check it out (: subbed 💛
Hey wanted to thank you for this amazing video,I am 13 with Irlins,I have been struggling with things lately so I wanted to watch these my computer is set up with colour veil thank you so much x
Omg. I remember when I was in middle school, I was asked to read out loud and I read the same sentence twice and the entire class burst out laughing. I was so embarrassed. As an adult in work meeting my eyes are always seeing words jumping. Massive anxiety when I have to send an email to all the employees (I work in HR) because I write memos that’s missing words. My brain read that it’s there but someone will point of my mistakes after I have reread it like 10 times and am so glad I found out what I was dealing with.
Aw, I'm so sorry you had to go through that, kids can be cruel 😔 I get that frustration of rereading stuff though, it can be so annoying. I'm so so glad you found out though! 💕
Thank you 😁😁😁 The colorveil app on my pc is awesome :) I also use the Tintvision app on my phone. I'm in the US and was able to go to irlen.com to read about the issue. There's also tests that you can take. Finally, there's a search tool that helps you to find a specialist near you. Over here they call it "irlen diagnostician."
Hi I've got Visual Stress And i was sitting in class today and the brick on wall was freaking me out. I had to leave the room 😬 And there are also some patterns around my home that do the same. So what im asking is do other people with Visual stress get this...??? Or has this ever happened to you???
For me printing on coloured paper reduces visual distortions and reading more comfortable the using the overlays. Also the Open Dyslexic Font is designed in such a way that it also reduces the number of distortions.
To be honest, I have absolutely no idea, I don’t think I would have known if it hadn’t been for having someone at my university to do it. I’d maybe recommend going to a GP, explaining about this syndrome (surprisingly, I haven’t met any that know of it) and seeing if they can signpost you to someone. Failing that, you could possible look for a private specialist? That’s all assuming you’re in the UK, if you’re in the US, I imagine there could be more awareness as the person who discovered/found the syndrome was from there. But I’m not sure! Sorry if this was no help!
@@sarahlwalden In the US, you can go to irlen.com, to find an occupational therapist who specializes in it. That's how I found a specialist near me. Don't mean to override you Sara. Wanted to help 😁
When I was diagnosed, the lady doing it went through this with me. But if you aren’t able to see anyone, I think it’s literally just a case of going through different colours and seeing which allows you to read/see the words better. Just try all the colours you can think of on the colour veil software I mentioned, or even see if you could order some sample overlays of different colours and see which help. Your colour changes over the years so either would be great as you’ll have to keep testing again eventually. I hope that helped!
@@sarahlwalden The way with which you have made this video, will definitely help many others I myself am a professor and have to read almost daily. Thanks to GOD for making people like you , so helpful and blissful . I don't have words to thank you . I wish no one has to go through which you , me and others had to . Thanking once again 😃 May god bless you with better vision ❤️ and health 💞 🙏 . Stay happy always
