Quickly wash, dry and lacquer ornaments after soaking them in vinegar. Do not handle them after you take them out of the vinegar bath. The idea is to keep them from ever oxidizing. Sand or file cut edges. Even though it is a reasonably soft metal, copper edges can snag holiday sweaters and cut skin. Work the wire from one end to the other, a little piece at a time. Bend out little ripples in the wire and then bend that ripple out with a bigger ripple, until the wire is smoothed.

For the past several years, I have noticed myself becoming increasingly disturbed by the question, "what are you?" This question may manifest itself in a variety of similar seemingly benign incarnations, such as, "what do you do?" or "where do you work?" The intention of the asker is usually to simply initiate pleasant small-talk surrounding the subject's occupation, which is a conversational redirection to a potentially more interesting vector, and thus, there is no deliberate effort to create discomfort on her part. Unfortunately, underneath this question exists the more natural, and slightly more sinister, motive of the compulsion to ask such a question, and that is the innate human desire to quantify. We just love to label things ("Even though it has soft properties, that's actually a hardwood, you know"). During the course of our vain attempts to satisfy curiosity, we wish to explain away anomalous data to preserve and maintain our present understanding of this strange place in which we find ourselves. You are trying to build an overall picture of how the world works, and you must explain things that are unusual or that don't seem to fit. It would be easier for you to understand what it is that I am trying to express and accept it as factual if I were to first qualify it with some credentials (in essence, by becoming an authority myself), or if I were to first validate it with anecdotal experience, earned expertise or some legitimacy that was granted to me by a different authority. In the spirit of science, I reject authority. You should trust none of what I say, whether I am an expert or a charlatan. There are no authorities. We are all equally lost and confused. If anyone presents to you an assuredness of the nature of things which are not yet able to be objectively measured, then they are pretending to be an authority when they are not. This person would be possessed of no additional instrumentation beyond that which you posses; they are not "in tune" to a frequency that you do not have the capacity to perceive. No one is capable of encapsulating an entire person with a few words, and we are not defined by our utilitarian purpose, or by the means we employ to put food on the table. For this reason, I refuse to be slotted in to a specific categorization, and I think that no one is more qualified than myself to make a similar evaluation of me. What am I? I am a brain with a set of hands. I just have a forum here to think (and do) out loud. Anything beyond that is consequential, and further, it has nothing to do with what is actually relevant about the idea(s) that I am trying to express. Now what do you think the chances are that that will make sense when I re-read it? And shouldn't I have said "that this" in order to have it make sense? I don't know- I'm no authority. The only thing I know is this: whether or not what I just said is hogwash, you didn't have to read it. And you certainly don't have to believe it. Oh, what? Am I adding too much sauce? Well, I made a small pool-table a few years ago, and I was thinking about using it in a video as an excuse to shuttle in a talk about determinism. I don't have a choice either way, so deal with it. I am what I am, and I can't fight it. It just so happens that I also make stuff on the side.
