Copy Roger Federer For A More Consistent Toss (Tennis Serve Analysis)
1. Look at your target then up at the ball
2. Lift your arm parallel to the net
3. Hold the ball like a glass of water
4. Release at head level
5. Raise your tossing arm straight up after release
6. When you hit the birthday hat, drop tossing arm down in front of you and then tuck it against body to hell you swing faster

I started to adopt the Karlovic toss after one of your previous videos, and now realize my hand has tilted a bit sidewise like with Federer. However, after ca. 3 months of practicing, the Karlerer/Fedovic technique gives me a toss that is 80 - 90% in a hittable position. This is huge because I can really work on the rest of my serve. For beginners like me, anything to focus on the serve is the toss and the continental grip with proper trophy position. Listen to Ryan, it will really take your serve to the next level!

Great tip about keeping the left arm parallel to the baseline! That's going to help a lot. I've been extending the arm into the court and throwing the ball behind me.

Extending the arm forward into the court is noway wrong ! ,( A lot of pros are doing so ) provided your are releasing the ball at eyes level and not further up which makes the ball to move behind

I hold it like a glass of water. Don't understand why anyone would toss with palm up, although that is what most pros do. Even Fed is holding the glass halfway; spilling some water. Karlovic is truly holding a glass of water.

Two completely different ways of holding the ball on the toss by Federer and Karlovic. Federer’s palm is 45 degree facing up/side and Karlovic’s 45 degree facing down/side. It is a 90 degree difference. In other words, to use your analogy, if Federer was holding a glass of water, he’d be spilling it forward into the court, Karlovic would be spilling it back behind the baseline. It is very clear in the video.

I usually hit flat serves only and have forgotten to hit slice serves.Can we hit to different direction using flat serve or only slice serve can help to give different directions to the ball. Djokovic and Karlovic bends their hitting wrist before they hit a serve. Does that helps in giving direction to the ball?

All serves can go anyway in the box. Hitting slice is so important. I’d recommend you hit the vast majority of your serves as a slice. Can you explain what you mean about Novak and ivo? So you mean just ass they toss? Or right before they hit the ball?

@@2MinuteTennis when Djokovic tosses the ball up and when his hand is down with the racquet, that time his right hand's wrist is always bent. Even Karlovic does that, but Federer doesn't do it. Does that helps to give direction to the ball? I've seen one video of Djokovic where he hits straight 4 aces which he serves on the T. I felt that the bent wrist might be helping him to give direction to the serve
