L`Escargot was the 1st National i remember in1975 and looking at replays of that race it was amazing the way he was cantering all over Red Rum from the 3rd Last. Really underrated horse he was, Dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and 3rd and 2nd to Red Rum in `73 and `74.

The best grand national horse finished 2nd 1973 crisp unbelievable horse he carried top weight red rum had a light weight

Best horse to win in the 21st century were probably Many Clouds, Neptune Collonges and Tiger Roll.

Tiger Roll was too small a horse to jump the size of fences which Red Rum et al had to jump back in the day but, yes, the best of the modern generation.
