CORALINE (2009) TWIN BROTHERS FIRST TIME WATCHING MOVIE REACTION! 

The Other Mother pounding on the door screaming “don’t leave me, I’ll die without you!” sent me to the afterlife as a little girl 💀

I was impressed that you caught the severity of thier financial problems. Most people just think that the parents are being mean and neglectful.

Thank you for recognizing that the parents were just super stressed out, and not just neglecting their daughter. So many RU-vid reactors don’t see that. Besides the catalog, Coraline’s mother is still recovering from an accident which is why you see her wearing a neck brace. There were other signs that they were financially struggling. They were eating poorly at first, but got pizza and had a party with the neighbors after the catalog was finished. They tipped the moving men a dollar. They didn’t have much food in the refrigerator, etc. The story is told from Coraline’s perspective, so you really have to pay attention to details to see what’s going on with the parents. Again, props to you guys for noticing and mentioning it! 🤗

The Other Father throughout the whole film is subtly warning Coraline. From the song he sings his song to Coraline to him getting her the first ghost eye.

If you guys like stop-motion, I definitely recommend Kubo and the Two Strings and ParaNorman if you haven't seen them! I think you guys will appreciate the animation, music, story, and all of it in both movies. Glad you liked Coraline - it is a little unsettling at times lol

The book is creepier. Also, there was no Wyborn character in the book. Coraline had to face it all alone(aside from the cat). Fun Fact: Bobinsky wears a medal that was given to the people that had participated in the Chernobyl clean up. I recommend another stop motion movie called Paranorman.

Some of the lore and implications for the book make this so much creepier too. It's made fairly clear the cat is likely some other-worldly being similar to the other-mother who's voice somehow was directly in her mind and the gateway in the wall was something 'alive' (and breathing) so to speak that even the other-mother feared. The description implies it as being something akin to some part of some massive eldritch being. The ending when the cat disappears behind the sign even hints that his power to walk between worlds had nothing to do with the other-mother.

The other mother's finger tapping on her button eye turning into the sound of water dripping was actually a line directly from the book. It's not integral or crucial to the plot or storyline but it is one of those things that makes for a cool little detail and I'm glad they decided to keep it in ✨️✨️

The term ‘the eyes are the windows to the soul’ indicates that she traps their soul using the buttons. She has another other worldly realm, I think without time which is why she knows ahead of time that coralline was coming. She fills the doll with sand rather than cotton like the former doll as well, I think because coraline is tough/hard compared to the other girl whose personality may have been softer.

I like how there's signs the cat can understand what Coraline's saying before you actually hear him speak, the level of detail in the movie is great

Fun fact: When the cake says Welcome Home, the Home has a double loop which means it’s a lie. So even though she’s welcome, she isn’t home.

This was a great introduction to horror for the younger audiences. In addition, it jump-started the stop-motion company, Laika, which is popular and continues to make more stop-motion films that is never done before.

Laika is the only studio right now really pushing the stop-motion art form. This film, ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, and one or two others. All films I recommend.

Neil Gaimans' imagination is amazing! He wrote/writes some truly interesting and one of a kind works.

Fun fact: seemingly the reason Mr b is blue is because he was a soldier at Chernobyl you can tell this by the military medal he wears, it's a special medal given to soldiers who helped at Chernobyl also a lot of people who helped with Chernobyl suffered having blue skin from the radiation

One of the few movies I had to see twice when it was in theaters. I love this movie so much, it's so creepy and mature for young audiences. The book itself is kind of unsettling but the film is scarier than them book ever was even though the book has all stuff in it that wasn't adapted into the film. Great to see you reacting to it this promises to be entertaining

Actually, the Beldam [Other Mother] didn’t turn Other Father _into_ a pumpkin; she originally made him *_from_* a pumpkin, and because he wasn’t cooperating, he was slowly being turned back.

First, why are you guys' expressions always so funny? 😭Second, I was at an animation panel when this movie came out and the described how there is only one shot in the entire movie with CGI. Even the rain drops on the window are individually animated drops of hardened glue and the entire time I was like "WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THIS TO THEMSELVES???" Thirdly, if you guys like Stop Motion I highly recommend the brand new Pinocchio movie on Netflix! it's Del Toro and despite never liking the Pinocchio story, I really fell in love with it.

Actually I think I now get why she was looking for the well (after watching it so many times). 😆 Because she really wants to grow a garden, she wants to make sure there's a water source to help tend to their plants.

Henry Selick actually recently made his comeback with Jordan Peele with the movie "Wendell and Wild" only months ago. If you like Coraline's aesthetic, you'll love the vibes in that movie. Hope you guys watch it

Such a phenomenal film! You'd be even more surprised by this. The book Coraline almost never gotten published because it was scary for younger audiences. The daughter of Gaiman's coworker read the draft and had it approved for publishing. Years later, it was revealed the daughter lied about how it wasn't scary because she wanted to know what happened next. My God without that brave kid, there would've never been a book. And no book, no fantastic movie!😲😲😲 That's the magic of suspense: Curiously hyped about what happens next.

This is a great film. I watch it often. I love how you can see Bobinski on the roof of the apartments at the beginning as Coraline and her family drive up. There are a lot of great things about this movie. Read some of the facts and theories about it. I think you guys will like it.

The old well was a good choice to toss the key. When metal is trapped in water for years, it rusts and rusts until it's as brittle as a dry leaf.

Here is a cool little fact for you. There were 24 different puppets of Coraline used in the making of the movie, each one took 10 individuals and 3-4 months to construct. It was a 55-week shoot and included 109,440 individually animated frames.There were at total of 207,336 possible face combinations for Coraline with all the pieces they had. Also, the song that the other father sang to Coraline foreshadowed other mother wanting to put her button eyes on Coraline. "When she comes around exploring Mom and I will never ever make it boring Our eyes will be on Coraline"

Ooh, I love this movie so much! It's funny re-watching this as an adult because I now understand all the small details I missed when I was younger, like why the parents, mainly the mom, were so grumpy throughout the movie. I remember watching this when I was 5, alone, in the dark, camping. It took me 3 days to finish because I was so scared 😂. Now, I love the movie and it's one of my favs! The animation is so cool, and I love how it was real and stop motion, such cool things can be made like that

This is one of my favorite movies....I'm 34 years old and when I wanna watch a movie my first is either Coraline or Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory...

One of my childhood favorites (I was 9 when this was released) and as a child, freaked me out, but not to a point where I had to turn it off which is what makes this movie very intriguing. Although I will say to this day 24:08 still makes me incredibly uneasy from the combo of button eyes, a mouth shaped like ghost face, and a voice that still sounds playful. Besides that, the color, animation, and sound design were 👌. And this very twisted way of doing the, "too good to be true," moral lesson felt much needed for children despite the imagery. It just felt like so much passion and effort went into this more than I can say for MOST cartoons (not exaggerating). Every Halloween I put this on for the nostalgia mostly but also cause the freaky scenes are what make me come back to it. Quality film, glad y'all reacted to it.

This movie kept getting replayed after I got my wisdom teeth taken out so for like 3 days going in and out of sleep, with this in the background made for interesting dreams

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinnochio is a must watch. The stop motion is masterful and the story is updated to be much darker. The film is a masterpiece.

What’s even crazier is before the movie ends, the garden looks like the Beldum (Other Mother). I know a few people think seeing the cat disappear means the Beldum got the key back, but my theory is, maybe there’s something else that’s more powerful or another witch she may face in the future.

I was the only adult without a child at the cinema when I saw it (I'm a Neil Gaiman fan). It was interesting to see the reactions of both parents and children throughout. I'm also a fan of animation, especially stop motion, so adore this film. I have a Coraline doll, my only movie merchandise.

Its about the loss of innocence and becoming an adult. Going through the portal/tunnel is symbolic of growing up and entering a new world of adult responsibilities and concerns. Coraline, Alice In Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, Pan's Labyrinth, Spirited Away... every generation has seen some version of this theme.

One of the darkest stop motion animated movies ever made! It's from the book by Neil Gaiman, author of THE SANDMAN comics and the live action Netflix series based on the comics.

My aunts 8 year is one of those kids where she gets scared of everything yet this is one of her favorite movies we done understand it

I had no idea going in, what the movie was about or how it would look. My son said he wanted to see the new animated movie called Coraline. Ok! 🤷 During and after the movie, my face looked like yours, but upon a second viewing, I went from WTF 😳 to "I F*ck with this movie." 👌💯 😂

Just the fact that you guys said “twin brothers react..” the fact that that is your title, I can tell your love for each other. It’s so…something else.

I'm really glad that you guys caught onto there being more going on with the parents than what we saw and the fact that it seems like they really were pretty good parents, just very stressed at the point in the film. We never get their side because we dont need to for the story, it's all Coraline's side because it's supposed to be, but if you pay much attention it's not hard to see that they are dealing with A Lot. They moved, probably at least partially to save on rent because the apartment is kinda run down and sketchy when they get there, they are clearly flat broke (a one dollar tip, theres no food in the fridge, refusing to get the gloves initially but buying them as soon as their articles sell and there is something in the bank) and trying to focus on getting their work done so that they can afford stuff. You can also tell that her mom was recently injured, because shes still wearing a neck brace, so I'm sure that's not helping any. They really do seem like loving and caring parents when they start getting their feet under them, but they're not stable for the majority of their screentime, and I see too many people calling them neglectful bad parents because of that. The Other Mother, aka the Beldam, created everything over in the other world as an idealized version of the real world specifically to impress and entice Coraline. She gave her the things she wanted so that she would want to stay, and that's why some of the other characters there are invested in helping her as much as they can. The other father was created specifically to be an ideal father to Coraline - naturally he wants to protect her and help her accomplish what's best for her, because he is a loving and supportive father who puts her needs and wants first, that's what he was made to be. Of course the other Wybie breaks her out of the mirror and helps her escape before he is killed for it, and of course he is unhappy at Coraline returning back to the Other Mother's house after the show -- he is Coraline's ideal best friend, so of course he tries to help and warn her and doesnt want to see her get hurt. It's what he was made to be. Both of them just know that if they fight any way except subtly she'll end them for it--which is ultimately the price both of them decide to pay.

You wanna know the most terrifying part? In the books they hint at the Tunnel being more than just that. A living breathing thing. It hungers.... The otherMother or Beldam is not even the most terrifying thing, though the book's drawings are even creepier. The cat too is something of a strange being, clearly far more than a regular house cat. Btw if you want another good story check out Neil Gaiman's short story The Price it is about a black cat too. When it comes to the Laika style try Paranorman, Boxtrolls and Kubo and the two Strings too.

You guys need to react to Laika's other films such as Paranorman, Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings, and the Missing Link. Laika is a wonderful studio that creates stop motion films and they are criminally underrated! Everything they do is phenominal!

I honestly believe that you would like The Secret of NIMH: beautiful animation, a deceptively simple but nuanced story, and an unconventional but compelling protagonist. Don Bluth at his finest, and I feel like he would love Coraline. He has a high opinion of children's nerves.

I used to bike past Laika's studio in Portland OR. They have since moved to Hillsboro just outside of Portland but they are still very beloved in Oregon. A few years ago they did a huge exhibition at the Portland Art Museum. It was wonderful to see all the detail and imagination of the sets. My favorite was the Coraline garden which took up a whole room. They also had the 16 ft tall Skeleton from Kubo which is the largest stop motion character ever created. I highly recommend that you watch Kubo next as it's truly amazing and beautiful plus a great storyline.

He was blue in the 'real world' as well. He was a liquidator in the Chernobyl incident that's why he had that skin color.

I watch Coroline every Halloween. The aesthetic and music is beautifully creepy. One of my absolute favorite animated films.

This was my favorite Halloween movie when I was a child. It had a great final, but some people used to think Coraline never escaped. There is a theory about the tunnel: maybe it was another portal to the Other World, so the Other Mother would have obtained the key.
