I would add a cleat on the woodwork of the window behind the drapes to wrap the cord around. I believe that would get the cord up and away from little hands.
Very impressive. I hated cordless blinds! It was less than 2 years it's broken. I can't pull it down. I need definitely convert my blind to cords. But I have totally different wood blinds with huge spring mechanism. It needs to do plenty to convert similar way what you has done!
I have high ceilings and my windows are 8 ft from the floor. I can't possibly reach high enough to raise them high enough to clean the windows. I need to have actual cords. I have a cat who is into everything and I loop up the cords so he can't reach them. If he can reach them he chews on them. I have had to replace cords on several blinds because of this.
There are many lift systems that are much better and won’t include cords - cord loops are often a better option than a cordless shade and they work great. I wish you had shown a Cordloop system. I do think the cord you added is not a great idea. They should at least be tied with a cleat and tied so they are very, very short. Motorized are also a very good option.
