I wish there was some kind of weed encyclopedia of major strains, terpenes, products and other relevant information. I work in the industry myself, and every day I'm confronted with the limits of my knowledge while trying to help people find the best products for their needs.

They partner with various commercial interests that leads to every strain page effectively just being a thinly veiled advertisement, especially if it's in stock near you. It's not objective. It's not a real wiki.
This needs to be heard at so so many dispensaries I’ve been to. I have heard, first and secondhand, some terrible budtending. You may as well asked them their favorite kind of bread and they named something random. They aren’t asking any questions. You can’t just say “what’s the best car for me” and expect an answer. I need to know, what’s your price range, do you want it good on gas, how many seats do you need, are you going to need 4 wheel drive, what’s your lifestyle like, how much driving do you do? People need to be willing to invest in a persons well being. You’re not selling a pack of gum at a gas station.... there needs to be more thought and connection within these interactions.

Thank you sir ..i heard your voice and those words in 1992 from a 91 years manager in my building..he literally gave me the keys to the roof and showed me how to grow weed when i was 13 ...im latino thats just a little late ...so he and me had the only roof access and so i went to growing shit load of weed and when laws passed in 1996 i was still young but already an established weed business man...2 years later i had 5 dispensaries in operation and just cranking the money wheel all day ...(i still grow on that roof)..i had to drop 2 of the shops and on 3 remain...i kept the 3 shops legal and established until 2005 when i sold them entirely...full setup with long term employees and benefits...those shops still stand now just with a different name now days ....so long ago when i go visit them they barely remember..only the owners remember me .....thats how you should keep it ...i love what this man speaks of and is gonna have my attention....love the plant but also make a living .....i own wood shops now and a pizza place
Some form of training for Bud Tenders is without a doubt beneficial. However the problem is that there is no one size fits all type of training because there are so many different elements in marijuana that all combine to play a part in producing the effect that a person might experience. As if that weren't enough to complicate things then there is the fact that each person consuming a marijuana product has a different body chemistry that also play a role. Essentially you can have two different patients, with the exact same problem and they can use the exact same marijuana product whether it be edibles, was or whole buds, and they can each get very different results. Now you do cover an important step which is starting a discussion with the customer to learn what they are looking for and then make suggestions with tips such as when eating edibles to wait an appropriate time after eating a normal suggested amount rather then just keep eating more until you feel something. Ultimately though all a bud tender can really do is steer a customer towards the proper category of products for the customers needs and make good suggestions on how the customer can go about adjusting amounts and types until they find what works for them. Any bud tender who thinks he or she can come up with the perfect product for every customer is living in a fantasy.
I'll be honest with you guys. I saw first hand what dispensaries demand from their Budtenders and I saw amazing and crappy budtenders same goes for the dispensary itself. Most crappy ones belong to you average big company, the big cats and they do not pay them well enough for the budtender to consider doing anything but average work. They certainly do not earn enough money to do a certification and you the speaker are the mouthpiece for corporations and you are hence a lobbyist. You want to lead the way to create experienced, licensed, hopefully unionized cashier like budtenders who have great knowledge and are great with customers. How about adequate training and respect. How about adequate pay and benefits and the ability to unionize? You pay them what $12 some pay their budtenders $15 and I hear rarely $20 anywhere. I worked as an Industrial salesman in Germany. The company I worked for building industrial sized air condition units used a 3 shift system. The workers came with a genuine smile to their work because the company , who is still worldwide market leader, does something the Industry has forgotten. It's called decency and fairness. Initial pay starts at 30 Euro that's $40 USD an hour. 13 month salary meaning you get an double the regular paycheck for December + Christmas Bonus + 4 month paid leave when your wife is getting a baby. A 5000$ cheque once your baby is there. I hear Californians talking about Social Democracy but only marginally understanding what it really is. We Germans had it after the WWII otherwise we would've never recovered to this day. You do not understand the Industry most people don't, they just believe they do. The average dispensary owner has gotten as greedy as the average shark above. This is already a huge problem in the US and Canada. The Cannabis Industry as it is today is not interested in the public good. Tiny mom and pop stores cannot but I do not talk about them obviously. CEO's won't get 500m a year anymore shareholders won't see rising profits but they never should've in the first place! You all can do it if you do not have greedy owners! Cannabis Culture rose out of counter culture to the Establishment and they bought so many out and too many took the cash and sold out! Not that I didn't know that it would happen that was clear. Humans are frail beings. That goes for all of us just varying in degrees.
The stores here where I live consists of many Stoner's it definitely does make a difference in interactions between a customer and the employee we can make recommendations from experience

Thank you. It's now 2022. I'm sitting here trimming part of my 20 lb Harvest in Northern New Mexico, where pot grows really well on this parallel, and I'm at 6,800 ft. Which, if you talk to the himalayans, is very ideal for cannabis to grow. Last year was my first legal grow, in a county that is primarily run by the government. I am more than surprised to find out how many card holding patients are living in this County, its a good thing. There is a dispensary, they appreciate it too! I go to buy tools of the trade and stickers. Different strains do different things! The overall education within the dispensaries since 2009 have really improved exponentially, and with every dispensary that opens, the more education and knowledge there is to absorb. "There is a giant universe involving just this one plant.."

There are support groups to help people dealing with seizure disorders to learn about what strains to use, etc. Nobody is going to put in the research and move to another state then not know what to get for the seizures only have to ask a stranger at a dispensary.
In Canada currently in retail I as a budtender I am legally not allowed to give medical advice, yet every day I have multiple customers come in asking for medical treatment. Then there is the other end of customers that come in and all they want is high THC levels. Yet I know nothing about them and there illnesses or tolerances. Most of the time I am by myself and have to deal with multiple customers at once. The only certification I have is in retail, nothing about the actual cannabis plant it’s self, so I test as much products as I can so I can tell people how it effects me; with the follow up in it could be completely different experience for them though.
This was awesome! I learned a lot and am just in first stages of researching this and can’t wait to learn more. I’ve already done a ridiculous amount of research on cannabis in diabetes and other disease processes and still only scratching the surface!!!

Hired at a dispensary 2 years ago and they never trained us. They literally told you that you had to figure it out. Then you have to train the new budtenders per management request. My managers were kids. It was so disappointing. And this was a legit store that had multiple locations.
$1200 courses?! Get 'certification' at end, but, overall, seems like since there is no industry wide accepted standards of any certification, that's quit a cost with no guarantee of companies taking you seriously over a $250 certification from elsewhere. I'd like to see some study on job placement relative to each 'certification 'company, not a "look at me, I'm more sophisticated and 'better'" campaign.
I think the point is they would know real information versus google type information. It's true there is no standards yet, but the market is growing and being ahead of the curve is always better and worth investing into. With the new federal law change on marijuana that just passed and it no longer being a Schedule 1 there will be more studies, standards, certifications, etc as time goes on and that is rapidly happening right now. So maybe these guys in the future will be the gold standard or close to and will grandfather your certification when it goes national.

I've taken other courses and this crew knows what the fuck they are talking about AND I have already had pretty good job offers.
We need more training for bud tenders and more regulation on quality control. I live in NM and there are dispensaries here that have the worst quality. They have plants in their stores with thrips and containers that are way to small. I’ve been a grower outdoors since the 1980’s and an indoor grower since 1995. I’ve seen a lot of BS and I couldn’t agree more!!! Great video!

13:00 I have tried different edibles, and none have ever had an effect on me. I've had legitimate thc gummies and chocolates from Colorado, but didn't even get a buzz. I do have a very high metabolism, but strangely enough I am a VERY lightweight smoker. A single gram lasts me a couple of sessions 😂 I have never truly figured out why this happens.
I've heard some people have higher stomach acid that destroy the thc before your liver processes it. Try eating some tums before eating an edible next time and see if that works

Try making tea. Much more powerful than edibles, even if it’s shake. I used to throw in some bags of green tea, boil maybe 20-30 minutes, then filter pour, add a bit of sweetener, then milk. You can also look up recipes for “bhang” (Indian cannabis tea)
IMHO, medical and recreational should be sold separately. 1, I don't care what "certifications" they've got, I'm not gonna trust some 18 year old minimum wage worker bee with my health. 2, If it's separate and you get a script, maybe we can get insurance to cover it
I think states with both should be using a good percentage of the recreational tax revenue to help subsidize the medical costs like funding a specialized caregivers program specifically for child and elderly patients and a pre-approved low income program like a partially state funded non profit group that can help navigate the boom market cash grab and make a real impact with those most in need of help especially those with no cannabis experience and in desperate need of relief for serious symptoms like seizures with as little psychoactive effects as possible like epileptic child patients or already medicated seniors who really need specialized one on one custom tailored programs
All the info you need to grow quality cannabis is online. If you have a garden with some privacy you can grow. If you have a closet you don't need, you can grow,. A garage, a shed, an attic, a basement, a spare room - you can grow. And here's the thing. The difference between cannabis strains, as long as they're well grown and cured, isn't that much different because most strains today have been hybridized so much there's little significant difference. BUT! There is a BIG difference between pot you grow and cure carefully, organically and what you're likely to get from your local pot shop which can't afford to take the time and care you can. The start up costs if you grow out doors in raw (untended) ground probably will be around $200. In a verdant established garden the only necessary cost would be your seeds. You can find seeds online.

Just got a job at a dispensary and the manager's training was "read leafly articles, learn about these key things, know the product and know the people, be kind and patient, find science videos to watch, remember that this is medicine and do no harm, etc." Didn't need to pay a thing for that.

The strain is named after the little girl whose parents brought her to CO for natural medicine to treat seizures for which nothing else had ever phased. She was having 300 grand mal seizures a week. Her name was Charlotte Figi and she left her body in April of 2020 at age 13. Right in the middle of the plague! So plus naming the strain after this beautiful little soul, I bet the breeders were also just riffing on the classic children’s book “Charlotte’s Web.” Banned in KS in 2006! RIP, Miss Charlotte. Sure having bud tenders educated is great but I feel company's dispensaries should label effects and side effects of every product where any Jo can walk in and know what to expect for example og kush promotes relaxation can cause drowsy than the adult can decide what they want from the product as not even a pharmacist can tell you off head everything about every drug they hand out having a computer with data would be best
Im in Az but what he says about colorado requiring licsense. I took their master electrician test and it is tuff. You have to take a test to be an apprentice. You would think they would have a test for you guys. The electrical test I took was open book, 4hrs and NOBODY can finish it in that time. Id think that standard would be normal.

Do you think customers want to hear the difference between live resin and shatter? When you buy beer, do you ask the store clerk: do you know what process was used to make this beer and how it will effect me? Or do you expect the customer to know kind of what they are buying? Sativa vs Indica, not solvent base vs solventless process. And that's why there is no "company standard." What company standard is there for selling beer or being a bartender?

This is a sale. All this guy is saying is: Everyone's schools and techniques are wrong, mine are right. Make sure to buy my stuff. He's a businessman, not a cannabis lover. He tried to make it sound like bathtub crank is being made and injected into gummy bears and then make people insane afterwards. This is a guy who would do more damage to the industry by turning more control to corporations and government. This is the path to heavy regulation and taxation to squeeze the little guy out. There's no such thing as "responsible vendor training" at this point. Atleast not for a bud tender. There's been so little real research done. The only real "experts" are the lifetime smokers and growers with decades of independent research and experience. Even that's a slippery slope. Lots of bad info, myths, and misunderstandings out there.

When discussing the edibles it's called first past metabolism wherein anything that is ingested orally passes through the liver and depending upon the compound, some or most of it is metabolized. You should have explained that better.
What about high tolerance edible users I barely feel 100mg. As a 66 yo longtime patient and budtender worked a dab bar. The level of responsible budtenders is almost non existent. When we had a medical collective 12 yrs ago. Our initial intake was 20 min some hated it. Dispensaries today especially recreational need more responsibilities. Yes budtenders should be certified and pass a test. Education is important I noticed about 10-15% people where edible don't work is it higher than that?
And by the way its the parents job to be informed or what drug they are giving to their kids come on its not hard the internet makes any information just a click away, those parents sound just lazy
Post signs, or maybe make flyers/ pamphlets at every dispensary. Customer can read em' without training costly time to employees to explain. so many can read to learn. Cannabis will NOT kill ya.

This sounds good but it going to drive the cost of cannabis even higher. Bud tenders will get higher salaries and or the dispensaries will have to pay for training. Legal weed in cali is way more expensive than it was when medical marijuana 215 was law of the state. Eventually consolidation and the efficiency it brings might correct this, but I am not holding my breath. Further I think the coming consolidation is unfair to the og's of the industry and is going to negative impact cannabis diversity.
