I have one and coming from a tennis background, I love the head heaviness. You are spot on about letting the paddle do the work. When you are having to hit awkward shots it finds ways to put the ball back at your opponent.
The Gearbox "trampolines" the ball off the face. That's why it's difficult to control. This creates power with mass, plowthrough and swing weight......which is the result of the foam filled core.
They are quite different. The LUXX is a control paddle that feels somewhat hollow. The Alpha doesn't feel hollow at all. You also don't have so swing the Alpha to get power.
I have this paddle. I wish they had a version somewhere between a 12mm-14mm of this that is lighter. I think a 12mm version with more pop would make this a good "attack" paddle and reduce the weight to sub-8 oz for more customization. Bizarrely, I found the 16mm had power but not much pop.
@@123BV8 until we find out what coefficient of restitution does tomorrow I can't say. I know that they were going to order it as part of their next batch but had to reconsider.
I may have to wait for next paddle then! I love 7.8 weight. Been playing 6 years now and while I love power, I love the soft game too,,but most importantly for me is taking them out of the air from transition zone with power or soft reset,,and when a paddle does both for me at that zone it proves to be an all all-rounder paddle. I'll be waiting for 13mm@@CoreTekPB
With this still using a poly core but injected with foam in each cell. Does not this sound like a loophole for not being a fully foam core paddle which isn't legal like the diadem vice.
