Isn't that insane?! They literally just go "OK, you bummed a load of boys here, we'll have to move you elsewhere" basically providing him with fresh kids to abuse. My mind was BLOWN when I grew up and realised all this was a thing. My childhood self thought priests were proper good guys, they gave up the chance of having a family to serve God. I knew about sex like all kids, so I thought they literally lived as virgins forever. I heard the odd tale of a nonce priest but thought it was just a one off. I found out otherwise pretty early on but it was around 2013/14, way into my 20s that I really found out what goes on in the world. Hollywood p a e d o rings. I used to think this too but instead they've made him out to be crazy. That performance he did that gets mocked to death wouldn't have been his choice. This is the biggest reason why so few people who come forward aren't believed or taken seriously, and even more so why even less actually find the courage to come forward knowing the most likely response they will receive will not be a positive one of support, but one of dismal and ridicule. After I came forward to the police, a process that should have gone a certain way, but when it came down to it was carried out against everything they talked me through when they were pressuring me to go to a station to give a detailed account and I was still hesitant, I was actually harassed for close to a year by the police themselves, banging on my door in the early hours, making scenes for the neighbours to watch, sending social services over and accusing me of all sorts with absolutely no evidence whatsoever. And why? Because the person I named works in the region for one of the bigger political parties in the UK, which I actually didn't know as I had become estranged from them long before I finished processing my trauma. They also happened to be one of my parents, if that's what they can be called. They got a warning call that someone came forward instead of an interview or any kind of investigation carried out, and I was re-victimised and harassed by the police and my abusers while they made it and me disappear. I have to live with that. Coming forward is terrifying regardless of who you are or where you're from, and there's always those ready to further victimise you with their vile defence of the abusers without a shred of evidence to back them up or knowing the situation in the least to begin with. A lot of times this seems to be to protect themselves and their associations to the abusers, so that they don't look bad for standing by them for so long whilst they've always been predators. Or because they benefit from their connections to them, either by fame and success or, like most things, through money. Money makes a lot of abusers look good when the people defending them are paid off enough. This is a man who came forward many years ago from a time when child stars were big and predators even more so, it's been an open secret amongst Hollywood for a long time what takes place there with children being groomed, plied with drugs and alcohol, and abused. People also don't realise that abusers threaten their victims into silence if their subtle manipulations and bribes or empty promises of good things don't do the trick, and a lot are good at making you believe they do it out of love, that they're showing love for you, that they're taking care of you, isolating you from others around you, putting up blocks between you, making you distrust others over them so that you feel you have no one to turn to when you can't take it anymore and no where to go, so you stay quiet and you do nothing because you're helpless. For people already used to being plied with drugs and alcohol, turning to those makes sense, it's an escape, but then it discredits them down the line if they ever speak out, no one ever stopping to ask why they turned to such things so young, that that in itself is evidence that they've no doubt suffered some kind of trauma. Others self-harm in various ways, and in the end a lot kill themselves because they 'know' from their abusers voice in their head that no one will believe them, no one will take them seriously, everyone will think bad of them not their abusers, their abusers were only doing what was needed to protect and love them, etc. People throw the word grooming around, but I don't think they truly know the meaning, and even when it seems like they do, they're just jumping on the band-wagon when the proof shows the abusers for what they are, they knew all along over giving a crap about the victims. As long as it doesn't affect them, no one really cares about abuse, not unless they're shaming the victims and praising the abusers who know how to make themselves look like upstanding people so that if/when a time comes, no one will believe the 'lies' and the mental and physical health problems of their victims cast them as liars and attention seekers and the real criminals. Unless you've been there, no one really knows how dire it truly is.

That's why many people do not say anything. I would rather believe someone on the chance that they are not lying about such a traumatic event that hurt them but not. False accusations are the same for all crimes. But people have this idea that there are WAY more when discussing SA.

People don't realise how hard it is to find evidence to back sexual abuse up. Most don't process their trauma for years, or escape their situation until evidence is long-gone, so obviously that's a huge factor for a lot of people. Abusers also know how to hide the evidence. And even if you provide the police with your body complete with cuts, bruises, marks, bodily fluids, and the clothes to go with them, even then a lot of cases are dismissed on lack of evidence when it's right there. In a lot of cases it depends on who the victims are and if they're deemed worth the bother of funding an investigation and trial, as well as who's been bribed and paid off, who's connected to who, because a lot of the bigger known people who abuse know how to get into the right places with the right people to ensure that if it comes down to an investigation or even a trial that everything's 'taken care of'. It's easy to dismiss victims and sympathise with the abusers because to the world they make sure they look upstanding while the victims struggle, fall to mental health or drug problems, act out and get arrest, etc., they know how to position everyone and everything to make it work, to hide their tracks, and to keep it quiet. It's so easy to never be touched by abuse and say 'oh well this or that' and call the victims liars and attention seekers. Those who do lie about being abused usually change their stories, lose track of their lies, whereas real victims stick to their stories year after year for a reason.
