Celebrating his contribution to Metallica's Blacklist, Corey Taylor sits down for a four-part conversation with Knotfest's Ryan J. Downey. In interview part two, he talks about his formative teenaged loves, including Headbangers Ball and The Young Ones; great riffs; and the parallels between Metallica and Slipknot. "One of the first songs that I ever learned how to play on guitar was 'Enter Sandman.' I've played Metallica in almost every band that I've been in. It's always just been there."

Honestly it’s kind of intimidating. He’s crazy short, and his neck is massive, and his voice is crazy deep. Like a metal goblin of sorts, so, my friend won a competition to go watch a interview with kerrang in London, and he took me along, I took my guitar with me, anyways, so after the interview it was picture time, the tallest people had to go behind the sofa in which he was sat in the middle, being the tallest I had to stand right behind him, I could feel his body heat man, could see all his cool tattoos close up, and my friend was like , “dude put your hands on him bro, absorb some metal power!” I was so scared haha, but I did put my hand on his shoulder like woah! He was baking hot, was so crazy like this is my idol! And I’m here touching him! After that we left, and waited outside, he eventually came out with his son and his missus, he signed my mates copy of one of Corey’s books, and when he came over to me I was shitting myself, like mannnnnnn, I’m a fan through and through bro, thank you for the music and everything! And he took my guitar and signed it, and we said goodbye. I can’t explain the feeling of meeting someone like this, totally scary and fucking awesome. A very cool dude. If you ever get the chance to see any of your idols just go for it Man.

I totally agree about Metallica. I'm 51 and remember Metallica in 1985. Lightning blew me away. These guys separated me from Ratt, Crue, Wasp, and introduced me to Overkill, Testament, Slayer, Anthrax, Metal Church and Megadeth. Cliff Burton era Metallica was my changing point in 80's metal. Maiden and Priest rule btw.

The singer from slipknot opining very eloquently about classic British comedy and Coronation Street, that was unexpected. I'm British and didn't even know about Bad News, I was born in 1980 so a bit young to know about it, so thanks Corey!

Metallica and megedeth were the bands I cut my teeth on learning the guitar. I had an older brother to show me all the led zeppelin hendrix Stevie ray Vaughn stuff I wanted but what I really wanted was to play metal. I'm sure I've learned more Metallica songs than I could actually remember if I sat down and tried to play them but there are still quite a few I could play front to back at any given time. It definitely was a rite of passage for me as well.

Interesting I was a couple days ago talking to someone about similarities between Metallica and Slipknot in terms of shaping metal and heavy music to what it is today, and also bringing more heavy music to the spotlight. That's cool

Unless Corey is in his 30's that's not even close to being the stairway to heaven of OUR generation. Nothing Else Matters was more popular, and transcended genres like Stairway. But in terms of songwriting I would say Diary of a Madman, just a brilliant song.

Nothing like a sellout false metal wannabe talking about how sellout use to be metal now false metal wannabes were a big influence on him and how one of the first songs he learned of Mc'Tallica was their debut sellout false metal hit "enter sandman" then goes on to say Mc'Tallica riffs are a "rite of passage" to what? False metal radio pop garbage? Well, corey would know.

Not true. I was friends with Corey before he was famous in the first half of the 90"s before I went military and he was very, very metal. Nothing fake about the guy. As far as selling out? You mean working your ass off to create the best art possible and it happens to appeal to a lot of people? Is there something wrong with being lucky enough to make money doing something you love? Or have the money to give you freedom to do what you want? Are we only supposed up love bands as long as they stay broke and no-one else likes them? Hey I love you guys but if you make a buck you're fuckng dead dead to me! I suppose you work for free. You're too true to be a sell out. Corey's a great guy, I personally congratulate his success.

@@adamwood7597 Nu-metal haters always have said that the genre is sellout false metal. It is not false metal !! It is hybrid metal !! The difference is that's sellout. Yeah. The old metal is not the real metal. It is pure metal.Period.
