In early June, 2018, we traveled around the island of Corfu (Greece).
Corfu (or Kerkyra) is the northernmost and second largest of the picturesque Greek island in the Ionian sea.

Palaiokastritsa (Greek. Παλαιοκαστρίτσα) - holiday village on the North West coast of Corfu. Is 19 kilometers from Corfu town. The population of 250 people.
The Greek word Παλαιοκαστρίτσα means "the place of the old castle," and this expression refers to are located to the North of Paleokastritsa's ruined Byzantine fortress of the XIII century, Angelokastro.
The coast of Paleokastritsa consists of six bays (Ambelaki, Agios Petros, Agios Spyridonas, Agia Triada, Latakia and Alipa), separated from each other protruding wooded headlands.
As the ancient Greeks, the Bay of Paleokastritsa was the place where they landed the hero of the Greek epic Odysseus and where he met Nausicaa.
The Bay of Paleokastritsa is known for the fact that it starred one of the movies about James bond, agent 007 - "for your eyes Only" (For Your Eyes Only, 1981).
The transformation of a quiet fishing village, which was Paleokastritsa many centuries, the object of tourism and recreation began in 1950. This place is known for its scenery. From the height of the steep cliffs are seen the olive plantations, pine-covered hills, the cliffs, coves and sandy beaches with Golden sand, as well as panorama mountain village Lakones. In Paleokastritsa has many hotels of different categories, apartments, campsites, restaurants, tavernas and bars. However, the sea in the bays of Paleokastritsa because of the currents is always a few degrees colder than other places on the island.
Near the village, among thick trees and lush vegetation on the edge of a high cliff is the monastery "God's Mother Paleokastritsa" ("Moni Theotokou"), built in the XVII century on the ruins of the monastery of 1225.
In the monastery kept the miraculous icon "the life-giving source", so the transcription in Greek it is often called the "zoodochou Pigi". There is also a small Museum of icons, manuscripts, books, Church vestments and other attributes of the Orthodox Church rituals. Near the monastery you can buy wine and olive oil produced in the monastery, the winery and its oldest in Greece the plant for the production of olive oil.
