I'm a Cork Man and I agree, that was the best match I was ever at (stood on the Hill that day). Its a shame Offlay have fallen so far back. Hurling (and Football) need a strong Offaly (also Clare in the Hurling).
@@Rebel-Vids I was one of the few Offaly men on the Hill. Referee was redundant. Pure hurling not like the physical shite we have nowadays. A younger Martin Hanamy and we'd have won. One of Troy's best games. Got our revenge the following year.
This still ranks as one of the all time great games of hurling. Superb performances from Brian Whelahan, John Troy and Johnny Dooley for Offaly, but it was Joe Deane, Ben O'Connor and Dickie Murphy that got Cork over the line.
I was at the game and the decision by the referee to penalise John Troy for picking the ball at 09.21 was wrong and it changed the match, one that Offaly should have won (and would have beaten Kilkenny in the final that year).
