It's Christmas eve 2020 and my 10yo daughter and I are getting ready to make the cornbread for tomorrow and we're going to follow your recipe. It is so great to see all the people on here talking about how their mama or grandma made dressing and now their making it themselves. It's so important that we keep these food traditions and skills alive and passed on to our children. Need to learn to skip the freezer section or box mixes and buy ingredients not junk. Merry Christmas to you and everyone!

@@edithfisher4098 Hi. I make mine so similar it isn't worth listing out, plus The Delightful Diva has done such an excellent job with her recipe. In addition to what she does, I cook the the Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage (she used italian which I'm sure tastes just as good) and add it to my mixture. I add a large can of cream of chicken and one box of Stove Top Stuffing (any flavor works great). Then I just add enough broth to get the consistency I like. If I cooked my turkey first, then I just use it's broth. If not, I simply use the pre-made kind. Hope this helps!

Cornbread dressing is the one food I look forward to every holiday season. A few years ago I adopted a vegetarian diet and had to modify my family's classic southern-style dressing. I've found that it isn't at all hard to do! I just use a veggie broth and add chopped eggs instead of chopped meat. I love the idea of adding the sausage though! Now I need to figure a way to veggify that little twist!

Nice recipe! Every year before Thanksgiving, I love to watch videos of people preparing thanksgiving dishes, and this is the first time I’ve come across a dressing with ingredients similar to the ones I use every year and that my mom used forever! Not everybody understands the flavor that the giblets add! I also add a few additional chicken livers but I brown my giblets, chicken livers & Turkey neck before I cover them in water to make a stock & I use sage sausage instead of turkey Italian. Thanks for sharing

There are a few things I like to do with my cornbread before making the dressing. I add 2 heaping tablespoons of freshly ground golden flax seeds to the cornbread batter. The ground flaxseeds lend beneficial fatty acids to the bread, fiber, and a nice nutty accent that agrees very nicely with cornbread. You can find golden flax seeds - whole or ground - at health food stores or regular supermarkets. Keep them refrigerated to protect freshness. Another thing I do if I know I'm going to want a lot of cornbread ready to make into dressing, I make extra batches of cornbread, crumble it, spread it on a baking sheet and let it toast very lightly in a 300F oven for 45 to 60 minutes, stirring it around a couple of times for even toasting. Cool and freeze in freezer bags. This extra step makes nice, very dry cornbread crumbs that soak up seasonings and broth like a boss! I often have cornbread dressing for breakfast with a side of turkey breakfast sausage and maybe stewed apples or applesauce. Fabulous!!

thanks my mother did not teach me how to cook. so I really appreciate. . I've made dressing before but didn't crumble the conbread, so the stuffing came out like cornbread but with stuffing flavor if that makes sense.. . . I will follow your instructions & let you know . thanks. happy holiday
