Ugh thanks for the heads up! I’m having mine next week… I’ve been saying “it can’t possibly be that easy!” And Drs, family etc all say I’ll be fine but…. Im glad to see im not so wrong because now I can prepare.
I think it ofcause depends on everyones experience but I hate people that tell me it won't hurt at all. When I woke up on Tuesday after theater I was in sooo much pain. No one perpared me for that
Thank you for advice and insight. I'm one week post surgery, have follow up tomorrow. My surgeon was not real clear on what to expect during initial recovery. Now I know I'm normal. Post surgery felt so good that we stopped and had Mexican and a margarita (NPO after midnight for 1pm surgery). By the time i got home, pain hit. Had been told take Tylenol, didn't touch it. had a couple of leftover hydrocodone/apap, they gave some relief. Now alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen. Still lots of tears, nasal drainage, very light sensitive. keep closed a lot but still sore from other eye. Work as firefighter, off work for 4 weeks. wife doing all driving. have 7 and 6 year old, already have been bopped in my face several times. got to have other eye done later. how long till blurred vision gone? mine was 20/50, my problem was keratin deposit s in cornea so a little different than yours. thanks again!
My wife just had hers done last Thursday. She has no pain meds prescribed this time around. She had tylenol 3s when she had her left eye done. She is up and at it already. It's all about the Dr. Doing the surgery IMO.
Hi Britt thanks so much for your video! So kind of you to do this for others. Did you ever get to 20/20 vision without or with glasses/contacts? Is your cornea transplant still doing fine?
Thank you for sharing. I am 4 days out from PK cornea transplant and am also going through a ton of discomfort. My vision is extremely blurry and I cant see through it yet. I will hopefully get some vision soon.
So glad I came across this 6 year old video! Have my surgery booked for next week but will need to cancel unfortunately as I don’t think I fully understood the recovery. Thought I would be “ok” at my dads funeral two days after my surgery and in all honesty I don’t think I’ll be ok as the eye will need to heal for much longer. Lots of advice I’ve received said it’s a “quick recovery” but I always thought it’d be more hectic :(
Thank you for ya video. I just had this done Bout 8 days ago. I was exactly like you going in. I didn't think it would hurt as much boy was I wrong!!!? It hurts so bad sometimes I feel like ripping my eye out. Friday night on and off pain. Yesterday no pain at all I slept good this morning eyes and nose running veins in my head feel like they gonna pop. Thank you for sharing your video
Hey Britt! Very educating video. Im 32 been blind in left eye since 19 got glass in my from a car wreck. Just started looking into this surgery. Just worried if its going to weakin my vision in my good eye. were you 100% blind in the bad eye and how long?
After you hearted me, I watched video again. How have you kept or not your permit? Love that part where you say"other than that". My dead line is Oct 2023 and I hope God will get me past that dmv stuff once more!
Hello Britt, thank for the video. Pls is your vision much better in the operated eye now? If Yes, to what percentage compared to before you had the operation done?
I just got mine a week ago. It doesnt hurt at all. Its just really sensitive to the light and it sucka because i cant really go out with my daughters. But i guess everyone has their own experience. Mine is going well thank god. Good luck to who ever is about to get one. 🖒
Mine is on June 5th, thanks for the heads up on the pain, my MD had already mentioned Percocet but I didn't think I would need it. How soon after the transplant were you able to drive again?
thanks a whole lot ... my wife is on day 2 of hers ,she sees a whole lot better than before but its just the blood shot red around the area she's worried about. How long did it take to go away?
Man. I just found this video. I went through the same in 2014, Suffered in pain for a long time. THEN, i got an infection, which caused a scar on the new cornea.. So my vision still sucks in that eye. lol. Its still better than it was before the surgery. Good luck to you. Sounds like your healing well.
Awais Manir crosslinkinv hurts like hell for the first couple days don't be alarmed that hurt more than the transplant to me an expect blurry vision for at least a couple weeks tho everyone is differnt it's normal
THANK YOU so much for posting this video! I'm on day 8 and I couldn't agree with you more! the PAIN was intolerable on day 1 a few hours after my surgery. I was like you screaming and crying since tylenol DID not cut it. Im getting 4MG's of morphine every 4 hours which has helped greatly. This procedure like you say I was VERY unprepared as well. How is your vision now? I'm on day 8 or 9 and I still can't read the biggest letter on the chart which is the big "E". my doctor tells me it's normal. I find it very discouraging that I still can't read the biggest letter on the chart.
Heya I’m having the transplant soon and I was wondering did they put you under? When you close your eye does the stitches irritate it ? And is was you with the kids? I have a 7 month old and I’m hoping I can cope I also have to have the cross linking In my other eye
Hi, how long should I take off work? I have a desk job that requires me to look at my computer screen during my shift. I work from home so the appearance of it will not be the issue but i'm wondering if the light from screen will make it hurt? Thanks.
Hey, your video has been a great help, and I’m glad you are on the mend! I’m about to have a full cornel transplant next week as a result of a parasite getting into my eye from showering with contacts in! I was stuck in hospital for a month the Christmas before last and the parasite had left a scar in the centre of the cornea, this obviously causes me issues with my sight. As my now dominant eye was -6.5 I had no option other than to wear an eye guard to cover my bad eye for months as there was not point getting new glasses until my vision settled, so had to wear a contact in my good eye. After being treated for 12 months to ensure the parasite was gone, talk of lazer surgery (in both eyes! You got to love the NHS!) so I could avoid wearing lenses again. Unfortunately my Tennant left a deep scar bang in the middle of my cornea, causing me so many problems with light and having to readjust my vision, especially on the move ( so meetings in London are tough) my concern is what to do post op, as my glasses I assume will be useless, so will I have to resort to a contact in my good eye and the guard again for six months as I’m told this is how long it will take for the vision to settle? I’m also concerned about how I’m going to feel in the days after the op, I’ve been told I will be in hospital for 1 to 2 days, and I’m told it will be nowhere as severe as the months treatment I had 18 months ago( an eye drop every ten minutes for three days, so kept awake!) the pain I suffered then was light sensitivity and the pain of the drops ( which I was told was basically swimming pool cleaner) but the pain you mention sounds nothing like I went through, and none of this has been mentioned to me, any comments on how people have felt in the days after and any suggestions regarding corrective lenses post op would be most welcome! Thank you for your video, I’m sure it’s helped a few people in my situation.
Hello I am going to have cornea surgery in one month my questions are how long did you go to the doctor after the surgery my second question is did they put you to sleep. I would like to be put to sleep because I think I will freak out if I see what they are doing. Last question how long did you take without showering I am asking because I had retina detachment surgery last year and everyone thinks that because two days later after the surgery I took a shower and maybe water went in to my cornea. The doctor had said it was OK for me to shower. So I don’t know if that’s why fluids went into My eye. Thanks for doing this videotape is your vision now.
Hey I wanted to ask how is your vision now? Uncorrected and corrected? Did you have any complications like rejection? I might have to get a cornea transplant soon as well. I developed corneal scarring after CXL...
Hi, I am schedule to have my cornea replaced next month. Did you have an air pocket put to help elevate your eye pressure? I have juenvile glaucoma and noticed my right eye becoming cloudy. I found out by my specialists i had cataracts plus my cornea was going due to all my glaucoma surgeries. I am getting so scared. By any chance how did you find your eye specialist? I am asking because I am thinking of going to a doctor a lot closer to me. but i built a relationship with my eye specialists for years now. Anyways, after your surgery for the first week were you told to lay down at a 45 degree angle and look up so that your new cornea would heal correctly? My dr. recommended this new cornea specialist to me and he explained after the surgery I would need to do that. take a break then go back to lying down. after watching your video I am scared i will be in a lot of pain now.
Congratulations on your surgery. I recently got on the donor list to have my surgery. If you don’t mind me asking, what was the complete recovery time before you were back to normal? Able to work and continue through day to day life without any issues.
Hi. Im going to go PKP since Lasik surgery made my other eye blind. I have also been in PRK surgery but my eye couldnt be saved. With PRK the gave me a few ampuls of some tdrops that put eye totally numb since the pain was so bad. Do/cant they give that same stuff after PKP until it doesnt hurt anymore?
Hi britt. I just had a cornea transplant and just wanted to ask you... how long did it take for you to completely heal ? I'm having trouble blinking and it's very uncomfortable to just open my eyes and it's been 3 weeks post opp and its driving me crazy. How long do you think it will stay like this
I had PRK done and after 1st time left ey was great. Right eye was still a minus 10 and astigmatism, they said they thought they could get it better. Did a retouch a yr later. Got a little scaring, went to a specialist who said get 2 minutes Of m-c and I should be good. Had it done and got a infection, took over a month for tests to show it was fungal. Now my vision sucks out of the eye especially during day time. So light sensitive. Cornea specialist said a transplant was best way to go. I'm scared of doing anything again. 1st time little to no pain. 2nd was more, 3rd was awful probably because of the infection but still... just dont know what to do. I'm leaning towards it because I feel I'd see better without it if I went blind but hoping for a break.
Hi my daughter 14 yrs old, keratocones both since small. Had transplant 2 Yrs ago. Placed back 2 mainstream school from school 4 visually imp.school. struggle with fine writing ESP maths. The other eye also scarred....give me advise
What pain meds did help? I get mine in 5 days and I’m freaking out because I’m separated from my ex wife and all alone. How did you sleep the first few nights? I have like a million questions
I had a partial transplant that didn't work. Now it's the 5th week since I had a full cornea transplant. Vision is still blurry in the eye. Also very light sensitive. I drive only very locally - to the store, etc. Because the left eye is still blurry I haven't driven on the highwa yet and I can't drive at night because of the light sensitivity. I am confident it will return to normal, but it's a slow recovery.
Hey britt786 how is your eye doing, How much did the surgery cost and my dad is 50 he needs a surgery and do you need a donor for this surgery or it comes with the package. And what is the name of the eye drops you used.
Did you have thin cornia or swilling cornia before the transport? I had to to for both eyes.. jusr t worries what is going to be before and after in term in vision
I'm going into surgery on Jan I have keratoconus, was the pain really bad ? Also how successful was it? The specialist told me it can be 95% successful for me
Hi I just had a full cornea transplant in my left eye and it's been 12days after my surgery but it seems like my vision has gotten worse, its very clousy and can not see properly should I go back to the doctors or is it part of the healing process??
thanks for the video made me a little more nervous than i was but i want to get it fixed been blind in my right eye since this past summer corneal hydrop scar from keratoconus apparently rubbed my eye to much made it triggerd to get the scar) hopefully its not to bad need a full thickness as well! glad to see u r doing better hows ur vision now? my surgury for the full thickness is in 10 days hopefully u can get back to me in time :)
I have ancantamobea keratis aka an eye eating amobea that has eaten and scared my cornea, my left eye is cloudy, light sensitive, and slightly closed like yours, I'm due for cataract surgery and cornea transplant in 3 months, did they knock you out? Are you awake? Omg I'm so scared
I'm on my 7th cornea transplant in the last seven years they work really good but mine reject because of glaucoma I just had one two days ago I was wondering how long does it take to clear up the vision
I am an old guy and may need a partial. Thank you for your honest report. You are a lovely young woman with a good heart that shows through. Woah, You just gave your age, I thought you were one of those child brides! I am leaning against the surgery due to my age and fear of blindness. As long as I pass driving exam I won't get it. Thanks again and best prayers and hopes to you.
@@Kashif314 I may have confused some on my oct23 date. It should have read, Oct2023. It is also a chance I responded some where else on this site. Any way I have had no operations. There is however an update. My vision in rt. eye took a hit of several clicks. That eye would never pass DMV. Hope this answers you. I am computer stupid.
@@dustbat I wish and pray you find a fix for your right eye and that you can have a permanent treatment for it. Please stay positive as with science getting more and more advance we never know what we can find in the next 5 years or so. I have a very bad shaped cornea in my right eye but I am hoping that maybe some day they find a treatment for it.
Yes, we can pray for each other. You are so right about the knowledge increasing in this (and other) areas as the Bible said it would. An example was one operation was that I would have to use a laser which was $1,000 out of my pocket. In 2 years it could be done with normal means. Still too risky. Now that rt. eye is so blurry, it may be time. To give you an idea of my condition, where I can read a line at 2 feet with lt. eye, it would be 8 inches with rt. Some what gets better as day goes on or in bright light. Do not know if I have 5 years left and may be too old for medical people to care.
hi . i have keratoconus with light sensitivity (photophobia). i have to do this surgery. will i have light sensitivity after cornea transplant? or Intensity going less?
Hi i was wondering how long was it before you could wear eye makeup again? And how do you remove it? As i know they say not to rub or put pressure on the eye, Because I absolutely love makeup and had my surgery a week ago, and im just scared i wont be able to wear makeup as i once did
I’m 18 and I’m going to be getting a full corneal transplant shortly and I’m so scared. I’ve recently had cross linking in my other eye and it was so painful definitely not what I was prepared for it made my vision worse than before. How painful is this surgery? Did you have to stay in hospital over night?
Hi what’s the vision like out of your eye now I’ve had a full thickness cornea transplant on my left eye on the 24th October 2019 the whole operation was pain free and I found it really easy I was out a day after later this year I’m having it done again on my right eye the vision in my left eye is still quite blurry the reason for my message is I understand that between 6 and 12 months your vision ends up being good so I’m just wondering what yours is like now cheers lee
Do you still use Rejection eye drops Even after the cornea is fully healed. I am still Using Rejection eye drops even after 1 year and half after surgery and my Corea is fully healed and still using them.
Hie can you do an update. How's the vision now, are you still using steroid eyedrops, if so how often and when do you stop. How long will the graft last, is a repeat surgery a possibility after 20 to 40 years, how successful would it be etc thanks dear
Hi!wanted to ask did u have the scars on your cornea coz of shingles on your eye? How's your eye now?how long does it takes to healed?hope to hear from you,coz I have a shingles on my right eye, then have scars on my cornea so I can't really see on it now, just wondering if we have the same case..coz I'm looking forward to do the same if I'm allowed to do the corneal transplant..
Bing kinse so- I didn’t have shingles on my eye - but the entire shingles/chicken pox virus attacked my retina when I was 9 years old and caused a hole to start forming on the outside layer of my eye. That later scarred over and left me unable to see around it.
My new born daughter has peters anomaly on the right eye since birth. She is 27 days old. Seeing the complications afterwards we are really scared right now to go for Cornea transplant. Please any knowledge would be helpful. 🙏
I also have keratoconus and I use scleral lenses but right now I have very thin cornea about 250 micron and my doc suggested me corneal transplant and without my lenses I just can't see everything is blurry and all so after transplant I can't use my lenses so what can I do to lead my normal life .
I've had nine different corneal transplants between both eyes never really had pain afterwards and my doctor didn't use a laser to cut my eye matter fact I had a transplant yesterday June 27th 2018 and I feel awesome
hi thanks for your video. I wish I could say I had a similar experience but I am now on the 6-week mark and my eye is completely cloudy. I cannot read the largest e which is about 12 inches by 12 inches on the wall yet. I can't get a straight answer from my doctor and he just keeps saying it takes a year to recover. I'm getting bummed out and I'll see him next week but we are going to have a serious discussion regarding whether or not my transplant cornea material is still active and alive or if something has gone wrong. I just talked out the pain with Excedrin and Tylenol because I cannot stand the effects of the oxycodone type of drugs.
Ross Spoelstra your cornea transplant is failing same thing happened too me I had 2 failed cornea transplants where my eye turned gray. I switched my doctor and my new doctor gave me medicine in my 3rd cornea transplant Wednesday to where my body wont reject the cornea my eye is now back brown after 6 yrs.
I really hope I don't have to get this done I've been referred to see a specialist about keratoconus, the lady at specsavers said it might be both my eyes 😭
Just had my cornea transplant today they did the full transplant, super painful but Motrin and Tylenol help a lot, go back tmrw to take the patch off. Hopefully my eye doesn’t reject it that’s my biggest fear
