A highly overlooked war for the ages, as two very violent lightweight contenders pick up steam through 10 until they are eventually slugging it out like the movies. A battle of the highest quality.
I had it 4-3-3 Elizondo. He was the aggressor throughout the fight. Boza would literally push Elizondo to keep him off. Elizondo fought in an era which the lightweight division was one of the toughest in boxing.
In retrospect, Boza should have stayed at 135 lbs. after this fight. He went back down and lost a controvesial fight to Chacon and then lost to Lockridge Elizondo was a rated 135 pounder when he fought Boza and Boza could have picked up a ranking after this win. A Boza-Ray Mancini fight in '83 would have been awesome.
I had Elizondo winning the fight 6-4. The commentator seemed a bit bias, giving Boza-Edwards more credit than he deserved. I think Elizondo simply threw more and landed more effective shots.
brings back one of the "best" memories... I still~ hold that robert did NOT lose this fight... as a boy I used to tag along with robert to westminster boxing club... my boyhood idol
I believe Boza edged it. It was a close fight. He landed the harder shots, showed a better jab and showed a little more versatility. Elizondo landed some good body shots.
