From Ascot Park to The Corner
More than 30 years ago, this basketball club began as the Ascot Community Uniting Basketball Club under the leadership of Beth Humphries. It was an initiative aimed at reaching out to young people in the local community. Over the years, the club flourished with numerous teams spanning various age groups. One notable feature of their early days was the U8/10 competition, with teams taking to the court at the Ascot Park church site on 5th Avenue for Saturday afternoon games. The club was thriving, but in 2007, changes were on the horizon.
With a number of viable teams still in play, the club sought support from local churches to continue its mission. It was then that the Oaklands & Wesley Warradale Uniting Church stepped in to offer their support. In gratitude for this assistance, the club changed its name and uniform to The Corner.
