We travel by train south to Penzance and further to the southern tip of England at Lands End. You can easily take the public buses to explore some smaller coastal villages including Mousehole and St. Ives, then across the inlet to the island of Mt. St. Michael.

Pretty neat, as Americans would say. Thanks for your plug for using public transport. In summer a fantastic open top bus runs between Land's End along the coast to St Ives. I think we would say St Ives is a town, not village.

Just as point of interest, the bus from Penzance to Land's End would have probably passed through St Buryan where the movie STRAW DOGS with Dustin Hoffman was made in 1971.

I love England! The entire southern coast should be marketed as one of the most pleasant summer destinations for those who don't like the Mediterranean heat. Just like many Brits like to go down to Spain to bake in the sun, I bet many Spaniards and others would like to escape the scorching sun for a while. I was in and around Exeter last summer and truly enjoyed it. Cheers ;-)

I live in Herefordshire, which is in the west of England, close to the border with Wales. I am very familiar with Wales, its language and its culture. I have a friend who lives in Lelant, very close to St Ives, Cornwall and I visit her from time to time. The historical and linguistic links between Cornwall and Wales are so very apparent, and you can see the similarities between Cornish place names and Welsh place names. The same applies on the other side of the English Channel in the Brittany region of north west France....Breton is similar to Cornish and Welsh...all known as the Celtic Fringe.

For anyone who is confused as to what the Cornish are (celtic or English) the answer is they are both much like the whole of western England. Western-England (north west and south west) is full of Celtic blood so why the Cornish feel the need to shout about something that is not at all rare is beyond anyone. As for cd2rules he has allready said he has italian blood in him so you cant be a celtic nationalist when your not a celt...

You're right, my mistake. I know how important the constitutional status of Cornwall is to the natives. We have very good friends who live in St. Austell and guided us through the area from St. Ives, Michael's Mount up toward Devon. Native to Cornwall, they are the best at the history of the place. Thanks for clarifying my error. We do want to go back; it is a great place.

@NumberDne If you read your history books you will see that historically Cornwall is not part of England. Many Cornish people, myself included, do not consider themselves English. Cornwall has its own specific language, culture and way of life, which has become so very popular with English people. Poltically Cornwall may be classified as part of England. We can only hope that one day this situation will change, and we will enjoy the same status as that of Cymru or Alba.

Benny, take a good look at the 10-year genetic survey by Oxford Uni./Wellcome Trust headed by Sir Walter Bodmer. It shows that the Cornish (and the Welsh) are the original post Ice-Age inhabitants of Britain, several thousand years before the English peoples moved here from northern Germany from c.450 AD. The results can even tell a Cornishman from a Devonian. Yes, this is the 21st century, when we should be celebrating diversity, not ridiculing it.

@Mctagster why boast-all those with Cornish names have families going back to the 1500s or b4 (which means they r from ancient Cornish stock as people did not go far from their place of birth) my own go back as far in old Pydar and Powder... Re:calling yourself Cornish and English,I am sorry it just is not possible to be both Cornish and English. In any event even for those with some English ancestry the time to decide between one or the other is now fast approaching. Each man to his own fate..

To all those people who say Cornwall is England..why dont you look down the right hand side of you tube and see all the videos explaining why Cornwall is not a part of England. It is a part of the UK and Great Britain. Cornwall is a duchy, has a stannary parliament never dissolved and its own language. Prehistorically the archaeological evidence shows a difference too, akin to the west of Ireland and the west of France. Please look up your history. Unfortunately it is not taught in schools
@fadmucker08

@Mctagster Well said. Why can't people just leave you to decide your own interpretation of who you are & how you relate to the land of your birth.. Anyone would think they owned it. I love Cornwall, it is a beautiful spot but it does get tiring sometimes listening to all this talk. Someone posted a video of their lovely holiday & somehow it's turned into a platform for people to argue? I don't get it. Live & let live people. You see it as part of England,good for you, they don't, no big deal

whiteby..you need to learn history. William is a name of Germanic origin meaning of the helm (helmet). Williams is a surname of Welsh origin. During that time the Welsh dropped the usage of ap (mc, mac, son of) and placed an s at the end of the name to show lineage instead. The name originated in the Welsh marches. I am a Williams myself. Also, there is NO Celtic ethnicity. Celts is a broad title given to a culture, not an ethnic origin. Thats a common misunderstanding it seems. No pure Celts.

Just like a typical foreign tourist video i'd've expected. However this video sounds dated and maybe tourists should learn there is more to cornwall than St Ives, St Michaels Mount and Mousehole, even by public transport. And also didn't show some of the best angles of the places that were shown and St Ives isn't as rugged as mentioned, in fact its got the best dunes nearby at Hayle and sandy beaches in the UK. All in all though not too bad, could've been worse.
