Cornwall: This Fishing Life ~ Series 1, Episode 5
Another episode of a series that has been a cracking portrayal of part of our industry we are fighting so hard to save.
All we can say to government & politicians is give us a chance.
Cornwall - indeed the whole of Britain - has some of the richest waters, some excellent fishermen & cracking communities.
Britain only receives 10% of Channel Cod, Whiting and Haddock quota among others, yet based on the predominance of catches in our waters it should be 60% when free of the CFP.
Then we will be no different to Norway, Iceland or Faroe - bestowed with complete, exclusive sovereign rights over all our waters and resources within our EEZ.
Fishing should thrive with taking back control, injecting huge wealth & the ability to husband our resources for generations to come.
This would give a huge adrenaline hit to coastal communities. Allowing them to proudly stand on their own two feet - preserving a unique way of life that we are close to losing in many areas.
Don't sell us out by surrendering Britain's fish a second time is all we ask for!
The EU's egregious demand that we sacrifice fishing access to trade is a hollow threat. The EU is highly dependent on British seafood exports. They will be even more if their fleet cannot plunder 60% of the fish from British waters that represents 1/3 of the EU fleets NE Atlantic catches.
The EU is also highly dependent on British financial services from the global powerhouse that is the City of London. The EU needs both our seafood and finance. Neither industry needs traded for the other.

Always left with the question of just how sustainable is commercial fishing? 11:28 for instance. How do they justify that claim?
@Antipodean33
@Antipodean33 4 года назад
Completely sustainable if you are only allowing UK boats to fish in these waters. Hopefully BREXIT will be the start of some sanity for the UK. It won't be Brussels dictating quotas, the UK can manage that easily on their own. As a foreigner looking in, it astounds me that a country like Britain allows a foreign entity to dictate it's laws. It's unbelievably ridiculous, especially when you see the EU members drinking wine worth tens of 1000's pf dollars (your tax dollars) and the throwing away of perfectly good fish, thats criminal in my mind

Its the like of the parliment who have messed things up for the U.K. I recall that herring was one of the most common fish, and the fishing fleets of Yarmouth and Grimby when the home of the herring fleet. It seems that the greed to do well for themselves far outreached that of the men who risked life and limb. I could never forbthe life of me see how the government was so stupidly soft when it came to fishing british waters, they must have seen just what would happen by listening to the other countries deciding what they could do and what Gt.Briton could do in their own waters, and now leaving the E.U. will still leave ahuge problem reversing many of the allowances given to other members., however, it is something that for great Briton is going to be a must if it is going to supply the U.K. market . I would have thought that the moment the E.U. started reducing what briton could take from its own waters should have rung alarm bells, and at least made a stance at the time rather than be dictated to by countries that really had no right to be lording it over the U.K. With regards to making agreement about the seperation, again only show weekness, the U.K,needs to take a much firmer stance and say that they are leaving because of the E.U. and therecare no areas that are up for negotiation, Briton will decide what happens to its waters nobody else.

You couldn't even point them out in a crowd! But the yankees....Embarrassing, uneducated cavemen struggling to string together a sentence all while screaming at one another during their chemical dependency withdrawals. And try putting them in a crowd! Let's just say Where's Waldo has nothing to worry about! *Disclaimer* "Crowd" is to be understood as a mix of multiple demographics.
