Ray Langton was a brilliant real life character superbly played by the late Neville Buswell. I’ve met many northern lads through the years who were similar to Ray. Great people..
As an American watchin this for the first time. HOOKED! Been bindge watchin. We lack this kind of entertainment. Our television is crap. I've been drinkin and it makes it wven more relatable and enjoyable
I'm from just outside Manchester, I was 8 when these episodes were first aired , I can remember the characters , everyone watched Coronation street , total silence when my late mum was watching x glad your enjoying a taste of the North West of England.
I can’t stand the way people treat Hilda. So many times she is doing nothing wrong and they are so mean. It is getting painful to watch how crappy everyone is to her. No wonder she has to pretend everything is lovely for her, can you imagine how she’d feel otherwise
She was the street gossip ' anything happens ' you can bet she'l be first to broadcast it around ' I loved both her and Stan ' they were a mix of comedy and class.
Hilda was salt of the earth tbh..a gossip yes but life dealt her hard blows. She didn't ask for much....a tour de force of acting and the first actress ever from TV to be nominated for a BAFTA. Jean Alexander and her performance when Stan died still rates as one of the most classic scenes ever. Of course the actor Bernard Youens had passed a little earlier in real life so the loss felt was genuine.
@@londonlady227 Your right ' he died a couple of months before his screen character ' I don't recall the episode however ' I guess I was away at the time or missed it ' so is great to catch up after all these years.
He was the best catch on the Street. He had the looks, charm, fine tastes in art, and knew how to put a lady first. A true gentleman in an era of neanderthal drunkards.
I was 5 when these were on.I can barely remember these storylines from '77 so its like watching them for the first time for me.It's like a parallel universe watching the story unfold and knowing what comes later. i think i've already mentioned that we were up to 83/84 before they all got deleted. The golden era for me was 77 to 95.Once the young kids started to come in and PC storylines became more common,it signalled the end of the golden era for me. I still watch it now,but seeing these old ones just makes me realise how the show..well just about any soap opera now is just used as a platform to push certain agendas to the masses. keep up the good work mate and i miss your Spaghetti western as well.
@@professionalgun6674 That'd be great.I'm sure you put up My Name Is Pecos many years ago.A great film that i really enjoyed.I know it wasn't a 'Spaghetti' in a true sense as say Django, but a great film.A great opening scene if i remember rightly.I handn't seen it before and it was bloody years later 'til someone posted the sequel 'Pecos Cleans Up'.
You are SO right about them just pushing agendas and PC completely ruining it. It’s too bad. I can barely watch tv/movies today. I stick to things pre 1970’s
Having only just watched her relationship with her daughter and her granddaughter in the early to mid 2000's these episodes pretty much sum up every single parent when it's their turn to "forget" how they were in their young days too 😂
As time went on, it became increasingly noticeable that Barbara Knox did not enjoy kissing Peter Adamson. If you keep watching the episodes, you'll see what I mean.
1:20 That little exchange Between Mavis and the cheeky paper boy was quite funny and his accent is so strong! I wonder if they still have accents that strong in those parts 🤔
They don’t have English people in those parts anymore. In London the Cockney accent is endangered and soon to be extinct. (These are two separate thoughts, since I’m clearly speaking about two separate areas……..just fending off the inevitable corrections)
The paper boy "Darren" has a clear Yorkshire accent , south Yorkshire to be precise, which is completely different to the Lancashire accent where Coronation Street and Weatherfield are set. True, genuine Lancashire accents on display in these episodes are: Rita (Oldham) Irma Ogden (Salford) Bet (Oldham) Dierdre (Oldham) Hilda (although not genuine it is excellent acting and she is acting the Salford accent ,where the studios and set were located and on which the town of Weatherfield was based) There is no one that I know of , in these 70's episodes with a Manchester accent, the city that borders the much smaller and older city of Salford. The character Kevin Webster (1984- present ) has a genuine Manchester accent and the actor does not change his own accent for the part.
I was wondering what that thing was on her head. It looks like a very oversized maid’s bonnet, with flowers on the front. I’ve never seen anything like that in America.
This is really wrong! Everyone was invited except them! She was not invited to the store keeper’s wedding either, which I also thought was wrong! And why did Hilda go to Rita’s apartment with the girls if she couldn’t even invite her to the wedding??! And even got her a gift!! I would not have went, and I surely would not have brought a gift!! Stupid! And what is this drinks at 5:00 Crap??! When and where was this??! And whatever it was, they didn’t show it, Hilda didn’t go! Of course! Why would you go to this stupid thing when you were not invited to the wedding??! I have never heard of this! It says, you are not good enough to come to the wedding and reception, but you can have a drink with me if you want! And it’s stupid because it said 5:00. Rita was driving around then, waiting for Len! They have never had only invited to drinks for a wedding in America! Either you are invited to the wedding, or not! Stupidest thing that I have ever heard!
A 12 yr old loved this show back in 1977. The attempts at humour in today's Corrie is so cringe-worthy it makes you want to switch off. It's just not funny in ANY shape or form. It's FORCED. Why don't the script writers see it.
Because they've turned their backs on the old Coronation Street and the whole identity and spirit of it has been replaced by violence, hatred, rape, and as you say, cringeworthy humour that wouldn't be out of place on Cbeebies!
I liked the dinner scene with Elsie & Ted Brownlow at her home . He was a decent man. Why do eating scenes on the show immediately make you feel hungry lol ?
Thanks soo much for sharing 1977! Do you have anything from 1976? I would love to see as much of '76 as that was favourite year for Coronation Street. Thanks a bunch!
Very small scale. Jims cafe opened circa 78 and they dumped the kabin cafe with one table to a segment that sold records!😂 Then, during the Alan Bradley years, the records metamorhasised into yet another blast from the past. Vhs videos!😂😂😂
I thought she was a stunner when she was younger tbh. Lovely skin and shiny hair. The future perm and smoking did their worst over time. God rest her soul. ❤
I think she was quite a pretty looking girl though for the character they had to make her the epitome of the average housewife, hence the specs and her being dressed down.
Very clever move by Anna Kirkbride with the baby screaming, turning her around so most likely her real mother was in sight. It quelled the screaming a little.
Where do they get flower arrangements made the day before a wedding??! And that room at the hotel just happened to be free, and the church and bicker, too, all at the last minute! 😂🤣
What kind of invitation is come for a drink??! I’ve never heard of such a thing! Either you are invited to the reception, or not! So a person is not good enough to go to the reception, they are only good enough for a drink??! Hilda bought her a gift, and was at her get together, and Rita was drinking with her, but she’s not good enough to be invited to the reception??! 😂🤣
Admittedly I've not been through every single Coronation Street forum or yt comment section but to my knowledge I am the only person who cannot abide any scene with Betty and her "heh heh, mmm mmm, aye aye, *cough cough*, aye, aye, mmm mmm" obligatory tourettes follow up after each bloody sentence! I swear 'Beavis & Butthead' were based on that annoyance. She rips my knitting! What his name? Benny Stone? Benny 20 Stone. That table and 2 chairs combo must have only been insured for 10 seconds for him and Stan in the same scene. What a gruesome sight men were back then. No wonder it is 3 or 4 times as difficult getting a bird nowadays 😂
Everyone christened babies back then. I wasn't christened until I was walking and holding onto/cruising round furniture and stuff age 11 months and my Aunt's youngest wasn't christened at all 30 years after this episode when he would have been newborn. His brother and sister were both christened when they were about the same age as Tracey and the younger sister there was christened age 2. They all reacted the same way, screaming the church down. This baby didn't, which was a bonus considering.
I remonstrated on his character being the longest serving in the history of the programme comparing it to the typically background beige folk in real life who are forever valued by faceless folk.
just asking for confirmation that all of Aprils episodes are here. I have indexed every monday and wednesday of the 70,s because its easier to double check which episodes i,ve already seen, thanks
Such a tiny wedding cake for all of those people!! And ugly! They had yellow flowers on the tables. Why didn’t they put the same or same color on the cake??! All white!
