Gary Pendleton I think the intention was always to raise awareness and to help people with similar situations. Faye gave birth but the baby lives with its paternal grandparents. Sarah-Lou kept and raised Bethany on her own. Amy was thinking about abortion. There are many teens across the world who will end up pregnant - especially in Britain so I think these kind of programs are trying to represent different circumstances that people deal with. I think nowadays though it’s becoming more of a shock factor or just lazy story writing
Gary Pendleton the thing is about teen pregnancy is that it’s rarely intended. Most teenagers are having sex and nobody talks about it and it’s not seen in such a negative way. However, if a condom was to break its seen as scandalous and shameful. I agree that they are giving it positive attention but I don’t believe teen parents should be made to feel ashamed. I think they [writers] should perhaps produce storylines focused on a teenaged girl asking her mum to go on the pill rather than pretending that teenagers don’t have sex at all. That would hopefully speak to the audience and offer them alternatives and a more guaranteed option for birth control. What are your thoughts?
Back in the day The Purple One got alot of Flack on US Soil because they felt it promoted Homosexuality. Ridiculous but I feel that when it came to Children's Programming The US was more conservative.
But legally a 13-year-old is still supposed to be living in the family home, or else cared for by someone at least over 21. It would therefore be classed as criminal neglect to turn them out onto the streets.
This brings back memories! I was 7 when this aired and even though I didn’t watch Corrie, I remember randomly watching this episode and it absolutely terrified me to my core 😂 I didn’t know how babies were made at the time! I thought that a girl could randomly get pregnant at any time and that you didn’t have a choice! So poor little me was terrified that I would also get pregnant at a young age! 😂
Aww, poor baby! On emmerdale, so many girls get pregnant, but they don't really see them struggle. Gabby gets pregnant for Jamie Tate and she's pretty much on Easy Street.
If you travel back in time 100 years most 13-year-olds at that time would have had virtually no knowledge of sexual intercourse. There was no sex education in schools, etc. I read some article in a newspaper supplement where older people gave accounts of their lives and one of them said she never even knew the difference between boys' and girls' genitalia until she bathed a baby boy at 16. I suppose it could be argued by some that telling children about the facts of life does not actually protect them against unwanted pregnancies as it may make them more likely to engage in underage sex. But, then again, you could argue that in the nineteenth century the age of consent was only 13 anyway. Bit of a difficult subject really.
@Papa Lazarou everything about lefties and marxism isnt it? so now im blaming tory for increase underage pregnancy still to this day. now fuck off you tory clown
@@cheekydevil69ER His criticism of Marxism does not necessarily mean he's a Tory. Anyway, Marxism has now been replaced by Cultural Marxism, and even the Tories are promoting that now.
My mum would have loved and supported me where as Dad would have killed me! But mam would have had a chat with dad and pull him round and in the end I'd have the love and support needed. We were a close knit family, strong bond regardless and I miss them terribly xx
Sarah was 14 when this happened. We stay ignorant even though 14 year olds now dress and act 19. Sex will become the norm at 14 and they need to be educated
Teenage pregnancy in most countries in Western Europe and most US states is dramatically lower than it was in the 90s if you do research, young people of today are far more educated and mature than back then
"will somebody tell us what's going on?" Gail. Really? She is the only doctor in the room and yet you say 'somebody' and 'tell US' meaning that you weren't expecting sarah lou to say anything.
@@matthewgoodwin9032 don't fucking lecture me on how the northerners talk mate. I've lived here for over 5 years and not once have I heard anyone say "tell US what's going on" when referring to oneself.
1:51.if she wasn't anorexic then she probably will be after that comment also kind of sucks that people think you have to be underweight to be anorexic and you don't like literally even if you're not eating for a different reason than your weight it's still considered anorexic... if I was the doctor I wouldn't unless they could handle it and werent a child
Soaps if you think about it are so unrealistic. By their standards everyone in the same Street/Square/Village whatever your pref, would have slept with each other all had affairs with the others wives/husband's neighbour's, all be related in some weird sicko incestuous way, all have committed murder, all have gone to prison for the heinous of crimes, and be out within a few measly months just in time for somebody's big wedding or 70th bash. Been involved in some money laundering scheme or bank heist, drink every day in the same pub, even morning afternoon and night. Eat in the same caf, morning noon and night, work not 5 minutes from their house, not travel further than the end of their road when they split up with someone and fall into bed with the next person, work at the same profession all their life. Drive a different car every other week, all have huge Christams bashes where you invite your worst sworn enemy's only to be shocked and surprised when it all kicks off in your face, have Christmas in a pub, never go away on holiday abroad only ever in UK..always say their skint but walk into a pub order a pint or drink then leave it on the bar and leave. Always be seen out and never seem to be with their kids even when they have like 5! And the worst one of the bloody lot! Somehow they fit 10 people in one poxy house with a dog , cat rabbit a stuffed parrot and the bloody goldfish 😆. Yeah right!!!
This was heavier than when Spike got Pregnant on Degrassi. You never really saw how she struggled with Emma back in the Day but in 2000 she discovered the Dangers of having an Online Penpal. That was so controversial but I hope it helped Young Girls not to trust anyone especially Online.
Mum didn't spot it as she was wearing baggy clothes. Doctors can do a physical exam and because she was already quite far along it would have been obvious to a trained doctor
