Here are the list of things I liked as well as things I didn't like, mentioned in the video: Cons: - Sensitivity of the dial - It's not a smooth scroll behavior of the touchscreen - Have to use touchscreen for zooming - Lack of fully routable maps - The need for a cell phone signal for rerouting - Non-automatic rerouting - Only single side power meter recording - Bugs with the training load numbers - The software isn't ready Pros: - Battery life - Display visibility - Display contrast - Dial ease-of-use while riding - Instant start-up time - Good illustrations of zones - Loud beeper I have enthusiasm for the things I liked but realize they may overshadow the things I didn't.

Des, did you experience the issues that Ray and Shane identified - wrong turn arrows, Varia not showing cars when rerouting, wonky power numbers? Thanks.
@DesFit
@DesFit Месяц назад
Wrong turn arrows on occasion but not the others. To reiterate, this wasn't a final, in-depth review on software as the final version hasn't even been released to reviewers, so this is all in beta at the moment. We shall see when we get the final software if these have been resolved or not.

Thanks for the in depth first look. How sensitive is that scroll wheel? When scrolling does tge device give feedback for every scroll up or down? Will be interesting to see how the "coming soon" features are implemented.
@DesFit
@DesFit Месяц назад
No real feedback but in talking to COROS, it's meant to be "flicked" vs being a sensitive control. Very much like their touchscreens on their watches (and the Dura) where it's not a smooth scroll behavior like a smartphone.

Have there been any firmware updates since this review? If so, have you had a chance to try them out? Thanks!

At first glance, the large rotary knob looks a bit strange. But why not?! Interesting concept if they manage to integrate the rotary knob into the controls in a user-friendly way. But there will probably be (have to be) a few more firmware updates. Nevertheless, it is nice that more companies are trying their hand in this difficult bike computer segment. There were a few companies that wanted to enter the market and then disappeared just as quickly, but the manufacturers that consistently did their thing seem to have been successful. For us users, that is only an advantage 👍
@ralphwelz3013
@ralphwelz3013 Месяц назад
@@jasonroberts9383 One question is whether the touchscreen can be operated without the rotary knob or not. The integration of the rotary knob can be changed in the software, and if necessary even completely re-aligned. There are test reports that say it works well and others that say the opposite. Ultimately, it has to work well, otherwise the rotary knob concept is really rubbish! I'm not really convinced either, but it's still good that there are now some serious competitors in this market segment.

My wife does things like Furnace Creek 508, Race Across Oregon, etc... This has the potential to be the perfect computer for her... Here are the fixes needed to make that happen: 1) Buttons. Buttons ARE A MUST for a cycling computer. 12 hours in, 34 hours in, the last thing you want to have to deal with is a fussy roller wheel. 2) "Base Model". For the tens of thousands of miles my wife has ridden, she's never needed maps, training plans, or 90% of the 'extra crap' most brands stuff into their software. Speed. Average Speed. Distance. % Grade. Temp. Lap Counter. Battery Power Indicator. Ride type (road, gravel, mtb, trainer). And maybe a few more basic functions. THAT'S ALL WE NEED. Please offer a base model that is super duper simple to use. No touch screen either. 3) My wife has many many man years worth of training on the Garmin Connect ap/website. It would be a very tough call to simply trash all that data. Coros needs to have a similar data site AND a SIMPLE way to transfer data from other platform over to the Coros platform.

Seems like a great device but the huge bezels (including the solar area) are just too much for me. It just kills the aesthetic of the device, but other people might prefer having to charge it less often.

Apex pro does support ant+ and Bluetooth sensors. I used mine with my Garmin cadence and speed sensors so for short rides I only use the watch to track activities. I'd like the dura to replace the Garmin 510 i have.
@DesFit
@DesFit Месяц назад
Correct, the original Apex Pro supports ANT+ where I was referring to "their current watches" which only support BLE. It would be great if they had ANT+ on their future watches like they had in the past.

I wonder why Coros thinks it is a great idea to send this unit out for reviews when it is so full of faults, errors, and false performance claims? It may be really competitive on the price but what good is that if it doesn't work and you have to sit there and hope some future firmware update might fix it, and wish you had bought a tried and tested brand for just a bit more money that actually works.

How is your review this positive??? DC rainmaker pointed out so many flaws and shortcomings of this device and you seem to just gloss over or ignore them
@DesFit
@DesFit Месяц назад
There are many things that Ray pointed out that *should* be addressed in future software updates, hopefully before the product is shipped to consumers. That's why these are not final, in-depth reviews. With that, I even said at the end that I can't currently recommend it one way or the other.
@greg4318
@greg4318 Месяц назад
Not really aligned with other reviewers like DC Rainmaker who definitively stated it’s a complete non starter at this stage. You can’t semi review something that’s work in progress and not even close to a finished product…..this thing wouldn’t be competitive in 2017 in its current state. The way this review panned out, it seemed to go soft on Coros and suggests that objectivity has been compromised. Poor stuff from a channel which I trusted.
@DesFit

As stated in the video, the software is a work in progress, not ready, and I can't recommend it one way or another at this point.

@@DesFit Hi and that’s the issue. You state you can’t recommend either way…at this point, as DC and Shane stated, it’s a clear no, that should be an easy and unambiguous conclusion. Review it again in 6 months and see if it’s fit for purpose then.
@DesFit
@DesFit Месяц назад
Yup, for sure will revisit it in 6 months but also feel it's important to do a full review when they start shipping to customers as that will be the version of software customers will experience and not the software that reviewers have been testing. Appreciate the dialogue.

@DesFit

There's things I very much liked about it - I stand by those. I also mentioned many things that should be considered such as the sensitivity of the dial, it's not a smooth scroll behavior, the lack of fully routable maps, the need for a cell phone signal for rerouting, the non-automatic rerouting, only single side power meter recording, as well as bugs with the training load numbers. I think my enthusiasm for the features I liked overshadowed the negatives I mentioned.

@@DesFitwhy is it "not one way or the other" and not at all?
@thecautiouscyclist
@thecautiouscyclist Месяц назад
Just because someone has a different opinion than some others, is that a loss of integrity? I think it's just a different approach, because this video is trying to show what's working right now, whereas the videos mentioned are trying to show what's not working right now. Or to put it simply: This and other videos are about the hardware, some others are about the software. I like @DesFit's reviews because they are consistent in their approach, while other reviewers often change their approach, sometimes for no logical reason to me. Hopefully there will be the same number of reviews with the final release of the Coros Dura.
