Background on heart rate monitor technology and my thoughts on the key considerations when choosing how to monitor HR. For me they are accuracy of data, reliability of readings, and comfort/convenience.
Disclosure: I am partnered with COROS and the heart rate monitor I use is the COROS product, but I have been using (and preferring) the optical arm strap style for years prior to this (due to the reasons mentioned in the video).

For those that have tattoos, optical sensors and tattoos don’t mix well. I have had great success with a Polar H10 chest strap paired to my Apple Watch. A little conductive gel makes it even better. Thanks!

I've worn in Chest HRMs for years, but I found that either in winter or major humidity and driving rain it could get inconsistent. And then there was the chaffing...I switched to a Polar OH1 and place it directly on my tricep. I did 3-4 runs with both the OH1 and the Chest HRM to give me peace of mind and found the differences were negligible. The OH1 being rechargeable is a nice perk since changing CR2032 batteries can be a pain and always seem to die at the worst times. The only thing I don't like about the OH1 is that I have to manually turn it on, which can be a pain in the winter if you gear up and forgot to turn it on. I might have to look into trying to Coros arm based optical for the auto turn on feature. Thanks for the content!

This is exactly the path I went down. You're 1 step away from where I'm at! 😂 🔥

How do you get good treadmill data? Does something like the HRM Pro help?

I use Polar OH1 arm strap. Very reliable. Did you try that one in your testing?

Yep, that's what I used prior. Great results. I find the COROS slightly more comfortable and a bit easier to use (no buttons at all, doesn't need to be removed from the strap to charge).

Does the coros HRM work with garmins?
@mister.myoung8601
@mister.myoung8601 4 месяца назад
If you pair this with a Garmin or Apple can you access the coros training hub to see your data there after? Also does that platform show HR zones worked over the course of a week for weekly averages? Thanks
@benjohnson763
@benjohnson763 4 месяца назад
Yes, it does have zones for the weekly averages. The HR monitor is setup in the COROS app but I'm not sure if the data would show up in COROS Training Hub without a COROS watch.

Is there a delay in an arm band HR monitor in comparison to a chest strap?
@benjohnson763
@benjohnson763 2 месяца назад
Potentially in the 1-2 second range but nothing that impacts how I use the data.
