⬇️ .// -So, should I get a new USB drive to test Counter-strike 2 and Team Fortress 2?- Upd: Apparently, Counter-Strike 2 crashes immediately after unplugging the USB, as the Source 2 is more complex engine. Team Fortress 2 has audio bugs, missing textures. But the game will crash if someone connects with new cosmetics (that aren't already cached in RAM). Thanks, and have fun! (📍I would also like to try other GoldSRC games, but Half-Life seems to be the only game that is allowed to install to USB drive through Steam)
"No survivors take damage after contacting the rescue vehicle" A bit funny since folks very clearly took damage and even went down multiple times. Seems once the USB disconnect happened, it lost track of that stat for some reason.
@@ErikKson unfortunately Left 4 Dead doesn't remember who you were playing with, so I can't check that... Also can't find these players by nicknames as they arent enough specific
I got to experience what it was like when you do the same thing to l4d2. I was doing a last man on earth run on every map on stream and when i got to no mercy, especially after the generator panic event, my external somehow disconnected and then a random sound started playing that legit sounded like a dying pokemon. After a bit, I accidentally ran into a witch, which killed me and my captions started saying stuff in completely different languages. When I respawned, the safehouse had no medkits, guns, or ammo. The safehouse door was gone and outside of it was just the void. When I stepped into the void, it loaded the next area and now the safehouse was a void and when I stepped back into the safehouse, the game crashed. At this point, if ben drowned popped up on my screen, i would of believed it lol
ohh that's cool. The "void" you're talking about, these are "areaportals". You can search that, it's a common thing in Source games even without disconnected USB. The subtitles also get crazy, yeah
I was kinda flabbergasted when you got the achievement in Left 4 Dead 1, cuz y'all clearly took damage. Also as a person who has 100% achievements in Left 4 Dead 1, I must say, getting this achievement fr is hard as hell. Now I know how to get it easily, 100% gonna recommend to friends
Hey, Good video and I tried this last year on TF2, I played in some community servers while doing this and first what you would expect is all sound to either fully stop playing or for it to sound corrupted, then the textures become the pink and black missing textures and after a minute or 2 if a new sound, weapon, class, ect (by you or another player) gets loaded in it will cause the game to fully crash without a warning. (I tested this on a 64gig Samsung Usb)
For who wonder why it doesn't crash instantly when disconnecing the USB drive. There 2 storage spaces in the the computer 1. The RAM It is responsible for saving the memory, data and logic while a program is running. And it's very fast for the CPU to grab and put info in their. But when the program is finished all the data of the program in the RAM becomes garbage and over time is overwritten by other programs. 2. The Hard Disk (Or SSD) It is responsible for permanent data saving that will not get overwritten and become garbage (If not deleted). But for the data to be accessible it's gotta first be copied to the RAM and then used. And this process is pretty slow. That's why you have loading screen before you load a level in a game because it load all the textures and ect to the RAM. So in those games the textures and logic anc ect is copied to the RAM to be used and executed. So even if the data on the hard disk is gone the data is still on the RAM and should run correctly. The game become unstable and could even crash when it needs to load other textures and logic anc ect. Like moving to a next level. The sounds is not working because the geniuses at Valve instead of loading the sounds to the RAM once. Instead they load it each time it need to be used. This is for the most part some stuff are not explainable easily because those games are complicated and there a lot of stuff under the hood.
I noticed a bit of a trend with any channel doing these, what I’ll call disk tilting, don’t have a microphone and do all the commentary through on-screen text. Probably just me though.
shi i remember when my harddrive died while playing 1.6 first it started lag spiking then the game crashed went to steam to launch it agian steam crashed and then restarted my pc and it started bootlooping even tho windows was on a sepretive drive removed the hdd and it was fixed
The Way L4d 2 Handles Missing Textures or Game files is interesting too. i have a pretty Scratched CD for Xbo360. on Certian Maps there are Only Graphic Bugs Left. that look like RainbowPixelVomit
@@Lance420_OutOfBounds that's really interesting, I wish I had an Xbox 360 for all these Valve games (I have Xbox Series S, and only The Orange Box), but I also would like to have l4ds. I think Microsoft has closed the xbox 360 marketplace so it's not possible anymore
You should have turned on captions - that's where the most fun is. The captions absolutely freak out when you disconnect the USB (at least ones that aren't cached in RAM). Combine that with the console command to summon a random caption (cc_random I think) and you have corruption gold on your hands lol
This reminds me of the PS2 and how you can play a game to a certain point (more than likely the next loading screen) after ejecting the disc. I imagine because the loaded bits are already within the RAM.
@@joeycommet45 Yeah that was I was thinking, when unplugging the USB, the game still goes, but only with recourses that are left in cache or whatever. That explains why TF2 crashes when someone loads with new cosmetics, for example
I remember that it corrupted a 120GB USB trying to install team fortress 2, the strange thing is that I didn't even disconnect it, it just stopped working, that's where 2 dollars went
>120 GB Thumb drive >2$ Yeah, no wonder lol. You pay the price for what you get and since you bought one that is of crap quality, assuming it is as a great deal or even a steal, it died as quickly as it was manufactured in a small dingy Chinese factory. Like, next time don't buy an item that is too good to be true for its price. Especially if its Amazon but it applies to all marketplaces as well.

@genigxsssuscraft7635 it's possible since you can just make a copy of it instead if installing it but it'll probably instantly crash since the engine is a lot more complex
@@genigxsssuscraft7635 Just tried it. The game runs perfectly fine at 200 fps! (minus the long loading times) but it instantly crashes when unplugging the usb :(
what if you install a game directly in your usb stick (without creating a folder) and quickly swap it on a different stick with another game while its loading a level ?
for me I even got to launch 2 nukes on HLDM crossfire without the game installed, just play for like 15 minutes so everything is loaded in RAM and it should be good
It would be cool to see if there are short speed run games to try and speed run by starting the run by disconnecting the usb. After some time people start realizing how much time you have and what causes the game to die. Seems like it would be fun to watch people speedrun a game with so many bugs and glitches because the usb isn’t even there anymore.
Pretty sure the run would forcibly end when the game tries to load another map - new maps aren't cached in RAM until they need to be loaded, at which point they can't be because the USB is disconnected. Besides, getting the timing for a USB unplug to be 100% consistent across speedruns is impossible since the speed of modern computers with loading assets makes it incredibly unpredictable.
i think it would be interesting to try doing this on hardware that was appropriate for the time. the main reason why this kind of thing works is because its running off of available ram. with much less ram to work with, it might cause more corruptions.
It's an old USB, always had it dusting on the shelf. I was thinking of buying a new one with more capability for other games like CS2 or TF2, but you can read the pinned comment and see why I didn't.
I wondered how would L4D look like since I spotted first USB unplug video. My question is did the common infected’s clothes turn pink due to server mods or texture glitch? I also feel like playing a non-finale map in its full length would lead to more interesting results.
