What are effects of corruption? erodes the trust we have in the public sector to act in our best interests. I was really excited to discover the CPI index on the transparency international website. That was until I looked more closely at the reported statistics. I thought it strange how countries like Sweden, the UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, and Singapore were listed so highly when I recently heard information to suggest otherwise that would be unthinkable in the US (this was anecdotal of course). Still, I did was not incredibly surprised to see the US with the ranking it did have, it seemed accurate from my perspective. That alerted me to variable or lack of in the measurements of this organization which leads me to this video. Looking further on the website I find this as an explanation for the low score in the Americas: "The number of poor performing countries in the Americas region should come as no surprise given the challenges to the democratic systems and diminishing political rights across North, South and Central America by populist and authoritarian leaders. you only measure corruption from business leaders? are you serious? business leaders are often tied with the politicians. there should be more accounting for public wealth and opinion
It's up to you to judge data. You decide what you do with it. Research does suggest that surveying like this gives similar results as expert analysis of institutions.
