I prefer the Virtuoso. Sound quality is very similar but the upside to the Virtuoso over the HS80 is that the Virtuoso can remove its mic off the headset when not needed
Can you put another ear cups on that plastic bracket? I got virtuoso and their earcup also attached to the plastic bracket. I removed the earcup from them and put another earcup and then placed the bracket on headset.
3:43: You're knocking it because you THINK the hinge will loosen up over time. In fact, you said it will "definitely" loosen up. I had a Logitech headset that rotated like this for YEARS, and it never loosened up. I loved and miss that "rotate out of the way" mic. Please don't knock features because you THINK they'll degrade over time with no real evidence or data to back up that claim. I don't care if it actually does loosen up eventually. The fact is you don't know that at the time of this review. Also, those HyperX and Razer mics sound like absolute crap. Corsair has really nailed the mic in their headsets haven't they? 7:38: Come on, giving people the impression that multi-device pairing might be an issue when you haven't even tested it, and just because you had a bad experience with a different company, is shady. I use a Virtuoso and Dark Core Pro on the same slipstream dongle and it works perfectly. 7:56: No, it's NOT your experience. You just said you've never tried it with Corsair devices. That's like not recommending a Ford because you had a bad experience with Chevy. Come on. I usually look forward to and respect your reviews, but these two things are a bit disappointing.
This review seems to have a really negative tone, when other reviewers are praising mic quality, sound quality and comfort, which are surely the most important aspects. He's complaining about the materials attracting finger oils because it looks bad, but he also said RGB is pointless since you can't see it when wearing the headset, so surely it doesn't matter if the material looks dirty since you can't see that either? Next he's complaining about not being able to position the mic arm differently, but why would you need to change its position when it already sounded fantastic in the sound test? Regarding battery life, he must have got a defective unit if he can only squeeze 8 hours out of them, at least a review on techpowerup stated they get around 21 hours with the RGB off which is a lot more reasonable, and I haven't heard anyone else mention terrible battery life. The weak range is kind of to be expected given the greater bandwidth for audio and mic quality, you don't really need a gaming headset to stay connected when in a completely different room from your TV/monitor, most people won't be gaming 6 metres or more from the dongle. I don't think other EQ settings matter too much because the headset will be using the default pure direct when on console/without iCUE running on PC so as long as that setting sounds good I don't care much about other choices. It also seems ironic that he complains about the possible long-term lack of durability with the microphone arm, yet he's sticking with the HyperX Cloud II wireless headset even though the volume wheel already broke lol.
you guys helped me make the choice to buy my Cloud Flights years ago, thank you for continuing to make excellent content and helping give me the info I need to get my next set of wireless cans
I’ve had these for almost a year and I’ve had no issues. Even the things he says were a problem have been absolute non issues for me. They’ve been worth the purchase and I have no plans to get any other headsets
I just bought them today so far they are great, I don't find my mic is as floppy as his considering this is a year later which maybe a factor. Had a firmware update for the headset and the dongle then started testing it in games. Turned off RGB so I expect battery life to be decent! My usage maybe different from most as I also have 5.1 audio on my system so depending on what i'm doing I may switch up.
@@androkazenn6242 yes I'm still using them. I have since replaced the stock ear cups with aftermarket ones. Long term usage yes! I think there is a newer version which has even better battery life but I think in the review here mic quality is slightly better on the OG model.
Honestly, I still might buy it. Mic quality is best in class in terms of wireless headsets, looks pretty comfortable, I prob won't be using it with multi-platform, 19 meters isn't that bad considering I never leave my room with my headset at home cus I look dumb when I do so to my parents so still considered okay, (according to the review) the audio sounds good in its Pure Direct preset, and it looks cool. Overall good video though!
Exactly! I dont need a 20 meters range, when 99,99% of the time I use it just in front of my computer. And for battery life, after an 8h of gaming, It's not a bad thing that your headset just give up😅 ❤
Yesterday I bought the Virtuoso RGB because of your review and I must say I'm impressed, my friends on discord were like damn due you sound like radio announcer 😂🤣 I of course went with the SE edition as the mic sounded way better on your test.
Bought two of these on sale. One for me, and one for my wife. Unfortunately, the headset was too small for my head. I have a fairly big head, but this one definitely seems to be for medium/small head sizes. It fit my wife perfectly though, and I set it up for her and tested sound and mic. Mic is absolutely outstanding, although we did find it best to boost it all the way up in the ICUE software (device settings > Mic Boost). Sound also seemed really good. A definite upgrade from her Steelseries Arctis 7 wireless headset, but none of us are audiophiles, so I can't comment on how accurate it is. First impressions were really good though. I really wish they made the frame for the headset bigger, as it seems like a perfect headset to me in many ways. But I guess I'll stick with my Corsair Void Elite Wireless headset for a while more.
@@maxmustermann194 personally I think both are amazing But modmic is 120$ and it's just a mic not a whole headset, and I was talking about headsets soo the modmic isn't on the list, anyway I'm not buying the headset because there is a lot of downsides.
You can also equalize them with an open source software called Peace APO rather than Icue, the results are much better especially if you can find a parametric EQ for them which target the Harman curve.
HS80 is clearly (no pun intended) the winner with mic comparisons. It's crazy to me. Also, you can remove the pads, you rotate them counter-clockwise, but idk if they're replaceable. Regardless, i'm picking these up definitely.
@@Happi-HD In comparison to other available wireless headsets, it is absolutely the benchmark. So whether you give it a 9/10 or 10/10, it is arguably the best wireless microphone available right now.
Seems a lot of users complaining about the mic volume being too low and had to use a third party software as the preamp to fix this. Interesting that most YT reviews don't mention this. Has Corsair managed to fix it with their firmware?
@AmpEdition It's not a lie. I literally bought one on Amazon last Black Friday sale thinking I might be lucky but ended up returned it because the same problem after a week. Apparently it's not a problem for everyone, some people find no issues with it but the others do.
I could be wrong but I think the reason why the HS80 mic sounds a little better than the XT’s is the position of the mics. In the HS80 the fixed position of the mic looks to be further away than the position of the XT. I think maybe if you moved the XT mic further away (that’s if the mic is even capable to be repositioned) it might make it sound a bit less harsh if you know what I mean
The mic does sound great compared to the others but I think many of us want to see how it compares to the wired ones since you have to charge it half the time anyway.
Would've loved to hear some info on the battery life without RGB, not it being at 50%. RGB is a big battery drainer. You definetely sound a lot more negative about this headset than many German reviewers I've watched videos of.
confirmed I got the same, 7hrs of battery life from full charge to critical battery with RGB on and 30% volume, does rgb eats away 30% of its battery life? lol
hi, just wanted to let you know that the earcups can be removed by pressing and twisting to the left. also the headband adjustment is done on the straps on the underside of the headband frame
Hmmm 🤔 this review is a bit suspect. Total opposite to what every other reviewer is saying & he hasn’t even got some basic info right, like the ear cups are removable. 6 meter range & 8 hours battery life. Come on seriously you must have a faulty set.
I still like my Steelseries Arctis 7. It just needs to be upgraded to USB-C!! Sounds great and has the perfect mic solution. No stupid thing you have to connect or swing away. Just push it back in to its home. Wish more companies would use the same thing.
Funny, I have had the Arctis 7 for so much time by now and it has been nothing but utterly terrible. Support too. I have had audio crackling problems that are absolutely unbearable with the headset, and thats already on my second unit. I do not recommend Steelseries, and I will never ever be buying anything from them ever again.
the VR bit was actually pretty helpful! i was planning on playing on VR with them especailly because of the wireless feature but it sucks that it doesn't fit over the strap
The range is WAY more better than Razer Blackshark v2 Pro, I can go faaaaar away without problems. And the battery bullshit isn't true either, I have played games and listen to music 9 hours today and the battery is still on high. Best headset ever.
Have you used it while using discord?? Is it good because I wanna get a new headset but if it has problems with discord (as some people have been reporting) then it won’t be worth it
@@happyvalentino I use it everyday in discord,. I know ppl have complained about the low microphone issue on other forums, but I just put the mic on 200% in discord then it’s no problem. People can even increase your mic volume if they think it’s too low.
This review is so much more different compared to other video reviews that I have to wonder if you have had a some what defective model. Also, the earcups ARE detachable.
Did he seriously not even mention the fact that the mic mutes itself when it swivels up? It's the only reason I'm doing research on this headset and it boggles my mind that it's not a standard feature in every headset.
I bought one and I gotta say, their quality control is terrible, the left side was much quieter than the right, and it sucks too because I was really impressed with everything else.
You can get the normal pair of Corsair Virtuoso's for $150. They are less comfortable, but you can expect the same mic quality and audio. Also it's practically better in every other department aside from comfort. I can go downstairs in my house without losing a signal, the mic is detachable, etc.
@@anaszine6444 no problem man! I also forgot to mention that the headset has a 3.5mm jack so you can have the headset connected to your phone. Just note that the mic won't work on your phone unless you have your headset paired to a device via the usb dongle.
I have the HS75 SE Wireless. It was the perfect headset for its simplicity (no RGB) and the mic is removable. However, it catches rust on the side meshes and aside from that, the battery life is pretty impressive for it last all day long while gaming.
ive owned this headset for over 6 months and no issues yet. been regularly muting the mic with the mic arm, use it 8 hours a day. only thing i reccomend is buying the Cooling pad earcups from wicked cushions it makes the headset way more comfy.
i'M HAVING ISSUE WITH MY HS80 MICROPHONE. Tried everything to resolve in settings and windows but no luck. Everyone on discord says im too quiet. Any ideas?
Man....where have I been in the last few months? I frequently am searching for the best mic quality on a wireless headset, and this definitely is by far the best. Virtuoso is probably second place now. But I am looking for a bit more premium headset, so looks like I will have to wait a bit more for some new products to drop. If Corsair implements removable battery packs that can swap within seconds, this would be a solid headset.
Yeah man... Steelseries have done that and I just cant choose any other headset cause of that... It's permanently wireless it's insane, I just wish corsair would do that with their amazing mics!
@@unculturedswine2154 I haven't found anything better unfortunately. If you're getting the arctis 1s wireless, I feel like the HS80 would be a better option. There's also the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, but I've heard that is barely any better than the old Arctis Pro Wireless. I gave up searching for wireless headsets, and decided to get a podcast microphone, and some IEM earbuds instead.
Great video, BUT your battery life experience is plain off compared to my experience and lots of others (see any other vieo really). Did you consider asking Corsair to swap your set out for another set and inform them your battery life was nothing like stated ?
with this remarkable mic quality it is a shame they did fail on the absolute basics. thank you so much for another review. still sitting on my cloud flights with 3rd pair of earpads because nothing is worth an upgrade.
Ear cups should be replaceable to all wireless headsets on this range, the coating should be oil resistant and those are a downside for me. But overall I like the design but this will not last long on my setting with Humid environment.
I would say the HS80 microphone is a clear winner, from the one presented. But with all the other things wrong with it, I think i will just continue using my Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless Thanks for your always honest reviews. Keep up the good work 😊👍👍
theres no way to make it bigger dog youd have to literally make the headset bigger. i own it and agree its small. i have it maxed out on size and it fits me perfectly.
Ah, that is too bad about the battery life and wireless range. Corsair is doing great with their microphones on their wireless gaming headsets. I also question the one-hinge design on the earcups, as it is a single point of failure that Steelseries' higher ranged Arctis headsets suffer a lot. Also, don't buy directly from their webshop as the customer service is abysmal.
I got this headset couple days ago, only complaint is people telling me they can't hear me and I sound far, unless I start yelling or I use some sort of Equalizer application as this headset doesn't have windows mic db level support.
Don't you hear an annoying background sound each time someone speaks ? I hear this annoying sound, It is a rustle ... I don't know if my pair dooesn't work properly or It's something general
I wasted so much money on gaming headsets and then decided to try Beyerdynamic 770 pro 80omh with an AMP and now i regret wasting so much money on gaming headsets... Studio headsets are way better.
As a previous owner of the HS80, I can say that the microphone on this thing really IS impressive. It's so clear but also has plenty of body - some would mistake it for a studio quality mic. It's honestly that good. The sound on these are also equally impressive. Dolby Atmos sounds fantastic, and the sound stage is well represented but also fairly wide (especially in comparison to the Virtuoso's, which is a very closed sound stage). I thought the ear cups were soft and comfortable, but could have been a liiiiittle bit larger for my taste. Overall, my main gripe with the HS80 came down to the microphone, ironically. However, it wasn't the sound quality but instead the functionality (or lack thereof) of its flip to mute arm. First off, in its standard position the mic flips straight down at a level fairly far from your mouth, so its pickup registers fairly low and I had teammates telling me that I was difficult to hear. "Well its adjustable, right?", you're probably thinking... *sigh* Well, yes and no. You CAN bend the arm towards your mouth which allows for far better pickup audio as well as a clearer sidetone for yourself (which is fairly low without adjusting it closer), however this presents another problem. Upon bending the arm in order to allow better audio pickup, you have now introduced another problem which is when the you want to mute the mic you MUST flip it back up. And when doing so in a "bent" position, the way the mic is attached to the headset in its location means that the end of the mic is going to be touching your forehead or hair in its "muted" state. Each time I positioned the mic to be directly in front of my mouth (slight to the side to prevent pops), it meant that if I flipped it up it was rubbing or in direct contact with my head. This is in contrast to my previous GSP 500's which also feature a flip to mute mic, but one that is mounted OUTSIDE the ear cup, not under it. In conclusion, I feel Corsair would have been far better suited giving the HS80 a flexible and removable boom mic, similar to that on the Virtuoso, which allows for a far better range of movement and control. In its current state, it is probably the least convenient flip to mute mic I have used and that is disappointing considering it's capture quality is quite good - extremely good, actually. This may not bother some people, maybe even most, but I do think the mic could have been better designed from a functionality and comfort perspective and I hope if Corsair decides to update this headset with a similar cousin or successor that they take this feedback into consideration. Especially since it's my ONLY gripe with the HS80 - everything else on this headset is superb. And if the flip to mute style doesn't bother you at all, I whole heartedly recommend it.
Quick question, did you have icue always running for sidetone or is it possible to enable it and then close out of icue? I refuse to have that bloatware running at all times and I just want to disable the lighting and enable sidetone and that’s it. I’d rather uninstall after that if I can.
To owner of those HS80, are you hapoy overall with those or not? I find this review a little bit severe, no? But, great job overall thats a nice and honest review from you 😊
I've had this model for almost a year and I'm super happy with it. You probably won't be disappointed either. Edit: I should mention that I'm not someone who spends 6+ hours a day gaming, so the battery life doesn't bother me as much as other people in this comment section. I only have time to play at most 2 or 3 hours in a day and I don't play every day so I only need to charge it maybe once or twice a week.
@@lr2683 Yeah that's a weird thing to comment on. I'm a student and during the summer I don't do shit, that's when I game 10-12h a day. Your average person plays videogames for what, 2-3h a day at most? So that's at least 3-4 days of use for the average user. Saying you need to charge it once a day is insane, unless you work 24/7 from home and use the headset at the same time. You can also use it while charging, so there's really no problem here for the average consumer
If they would have added half of the battery life from the sennheiser 370 with this mic quality this headset would have been the most purchased and the best headset in the world period
I always wait for Dimitri to review headphones before buying them, saved me some $$$ Hopefully they come out with an XT model that addresses the battery and wireless performance issues.
Recently did a battery replacement on my HS70s, pain in the butt but worth it since I really liked em (and missed warranty period). Shame to see battery hasn't really improved, but omfg the mic is great - man I wish it was the old removable arm though. Whhhy RGB, I wish they had marketed these as a step down from Virtuosos instead of the step up from HS70. It looks like void headset made a child with arctis headset.
20 hours isn't that bad though. I have the Razer blackshark v2 pro's and they are rated for 20 hours and I can game on them all day without issue. V2 pro's also have a good sounding mic. My only gripe is that my ears touch the insides and tend to hurt after 1 hour or so.
I've wasted so much money over the years on head sets . Spent good money on Corsair wireless set once waste of money I finally got sick of it and got a Bose quiet comfort 35 II Never looking back plus I can use them everyday.
That's facts, I use the Bose QC 35 II's which they released as their "Bose Gaming Headset," it's just the same pair of headphones bundled with a microphone attachment and a usb dac that has sidetone functionality.
for just the average gamer, who needs to walk away farther than 6m from there desk with a headset, and just remember to charge it after each session and your fine. best wireless headset 2021 just copped
I just received this thing. Firstly, icue program does not work if you have the 'legacy' version. I had to delete it and reinstall icue from the corsair website. Secondly, when I put these things on my head, they are EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I thought, 'millions of gamers can't be wrong, otherwise why wouldn't they stick to bluetooth pocket dongles with lightweight apple earpods?' I think the reason must be sheep mentality. The sound quality on these headphones, even with equaliser settings changed to atmos or whatever else are VASTLY inferior to apple earpods or any lightweight pocket headphones. The MASSIVE WEIGHT, RESTRICTIVENESS AND UTTER CONFINEMENT OF WEARING THESE HEAD-STRAIT-JACKETS after years of air flowing nicely around my head with lightweight earpods is like wearing 1900s teeth braces rather than invisalign. The noise bleed out from these things would wake up neighbours in another apartment, let alone alert everyone in your house that you're watching porn - you would have to be a modern day 'we don't need privacy' conformist to be okay with allowing other people to listen in to what youre doing on your computer at all times. These things are FUCKING uncomfortable. They are prehistoric. Gamers are clearly a bunch of dickheads in general to think that these restrictive monstrosities that dont even allow you to lie down on the couch to watch a movie are acceptable in the days of micro in-ear headphones that you can't even feel. Thinking its okay to 'slip' these off your head and onto your shoulders while you listen to the real world for a moment as your ears, temples and the sides of your head GASP FOR AIR AND FREEDOM is completely delusional, because as these boa constrictors rest on your shoulders they trying to CHOKE YOU TO DEATH AT ALL TIMES. These things are such a backwards step from apple airpods or earpods + bluetooth receiver that you might as well stick your head in a vice. The quality is way worse, privacy is obliterated, the suffocation and claustrophobia are intolerable, you can't lie your head on a pillow, you have to transport these suitcase sized things when they are not strangling your head, they make it very difficult to wear and remove glasses, and you can forget about VR - these things are giant bricks to be worn on the head - and they are only audio! They weigh more than my Quest 2 and its just fucking sound. I cannot believe I wasted money on these things just so I could wear a microphone. You can't even silent disco a bunch of them together so five or six people can watch a movie in apartment at 3am. They are fucking useless unless 1. You like to sit bolt upright in a chair and never lie on the couch to watch movies or listen to podcasts while falling asleep in bed, 2. You love wearing giant bricks on your head that suffocate you and heat up your ears like crazy, even though its only audio and nothing else, 3. You are completely unaware of how unobtrusive airpods and other small headsets can be, and 4. You don't give a fuck if everyone around you can hear what the bitch is screaming as you surreptitiously jack off while you think everyone in the house is asleep. Trust me, they're not asleep. You might as well tape a ghetto blaster to each side of your head. 0/5.
I will always wonder why Corsair just didn't go back to the original Virtuoso mic, the non-SE version. It was the most amazing mic on a headset I've ever heard.
I'm listening to this on my third version of a Hyper X headset while the right channel cuts in and out. I'm about to throw away all three versions of Hyper X headsets one of which is wireless and crapped out on me about 4 years ago, just like the others. So don't come at me with Hyper X junk because i know better now and after three tries that's on me for thinking I would finally get a good headset. My current flop is the Hyper X cloud and as soon as my Corsair HS80 wired version gets here? No more Hyper X for me.
everyone talking about how the ear cuffs are replaceable they are not. 2 months in and the padding and the glue on the original ear cuffs broke apart, i had to purchase a replacement for my hs80 through Corsair's own website and the connectors on the ear cuff and the connectors on the headset never made contact. meaning they don't fit. I will never buy a product from this company again. I gave the customer service rep my serial number and everything so it was the right ear cuff.
For me, the mic is better sounding than even the Virtuoso XT. If you are looking for the ultimate wireless mic for a gaming headset, "Antlion Modmic Wireless" is still the king imho. But that is only an attachable mic. This is really impressive progress by Corsair in the last few years.
Is Cloud II still this worth it if it has only stereo? I need a new headset but cant decide and I feel like I've watched all wireless headset reviews here already, lol
@@MetehanUnal_ oh, it is 2 already? Snap.. I went with Wireless Cloud 2 so I cant comment on how good hs80 is, but with Cloud 2 i had no problems so far, still rocking it without worries, and dont wanna go back to cabled headset. The freedom of movement is just too good. Sound it good as well, i dont see any delay, and reach is fine too, no problems, unless I go too far, like out of the room with few walls in-between. But! There is one gripe i have with this headset, and it is the microphone. Well, it isnt my priblem too much, but other people's from time to time, which can get annoying to me too. The problem is noise cancellation which is built-in and cannot be turned off. This makes the microphone to not activate and pick up first few letters of your sentences or words and it happened to me too often that a friend didnt hear what i said or didnt understand. And it can get really annoying. And there isnt an option to turn microphone on, to have it constantly send signal. It activates when it hears you speak and then like.. turns off, or what it is that noise cancelling is doing. It sucks especially at evening gaming when you try ro be a little quieter. So, if hs80 didnt have this problem, i would really consider that one, purely because of the mic, if it is better in this regard and can pick your voice normally. And dunno, sometimes it seems to work no problem, and sometimes not as well as you'd imagine. It simply can get annoying. If you have external mic then inguess you dont need to take this into account. But if not, it is the only thing that sometimes makes me think about buying a table mic or maybe different headset. But since this one works well, and mics are cheaper, i tend tk lean toward maybe aquiring a proper mic. I forgot to mention that headphones themselves isolate sound fairly well. Sometimes probably too well cause you may not hear a phone ringing or knock on your door or something. But good at cancelling computer fans, lol. Tl;dr, i am happy with the headset, but not with the mic without an option to turn cancelling off.
This is the worst headset I've ever used. The mic is very quite and the mic won't work have the time and needs to be plugged in for the mic to work at all. This is the in almost everyday the worst mic I've ever used so frustrating to get the mic working and it resets when you turn off your computer. All in all I have to say to never buy this mic.
all corsair battery suck, 200 bucks for a headset and maybe get 12hrs out of it. hell turtle beach 30hrs hyperx 25 to 30hrs. come on corsair. what a waste
My battery lasts way longer than yours, I have done no updates. Also mine does not take that long to charge, I use a Samsung USB c to USBC fast charger.
