@@astudentpilotlife That still works like the old one, I'm so so about the radial dial, but the actual feel is even better than the K95, and actually being able to pull the handrest out (magnetically attached) without worrying about breaking the whole thing, is really nice.
Just picked one of these up at Best Buy for $107 thanks to some store credit that I had saved up and I must say I am really happy with it. Didn't take me that long to get used to typing with the linear switches, I already played some Doom Eternal on it and they do feel very pleasant to use. My top wheel also doesn't have any play or jank in it as mentioned here so it must have been his particular sample for sure. Overall very solid feeling board with many nice features and great aesthetics. At the price I paid for it, it's a 10/10 to me for sure. Now I just have to figure out what I want to do with the macro keys.
I just got this keyboard. I just got a Corsair K100 RGB a couple days ago. Changing key depth? Read more When I first got it, the keys had barely any press depth which is great for gaming. I pressed the profile button and all the sudden the keys had more depth. I know this doesn’t make sense. I tried back and forth and it’s like I could change the key depth between two levels. Now a couple days have passed and it no longer does this. What’s going on? Am I even actually able to change the key press depth.
Yeah keyboards are probably one of the only computer components that never really need to be upgraded. If you bought a cheap membrane keyboard you would have a reason to upgrade but once who have a decent mechanical kb there's not much to upgrade to
As someone that is currently on their 3rd K70 variant since 2015 - I can say with confidence that a Corsair keyboard will not last you 10 years. You'll be lucky if you get 2-3 years out of one before they start presenting issues. Either your leds will fail, or a switch will fail on you, but one of those two things will happen.
@@downbringer01 I'd say you are too hard on your boards or are unlucky. I bought a K70 at release, upgraded to the K95 at release and my son has been using my old K70 every day with absolutely no issues.
4000 Hz is probably the most useless marketing point I've heard in a while. It is only even theoretically useful on devices with optical switches, due to mechanical switches having so-called debounce delay - a time period of around 5ms that the keyboard waits for the contact leaf in the switch to stop vibrating after actuation (although Cherry claimed to have tightened their contact tolerances to reduce this delay, we'll see). But even then, before any tiny amount of difference actually begins to matter, the input has to go through several input abstraction layers of your OS, reach your game's process, and actually get processed by your game, which will absolutely blow away the *theoretical* difference of 0.75 ms of input lag between 1000 Hz and 4000 Hz. Also, due to the high power consumption of optical switches, a wireless optical keyboard remains impossible for now, and wireless operation feels like a much more tangible quality than sub-1ms *theoretical* latency reduction. Wireless is probably where the industry is headed right now. I'm not a pro gamer by any means, but I have played fast-paced games passionately for the last 20 years. The only polling rate difference I can notice is going from 125 to 250 on mice, and not even that on keyboards. God this marketing is stupid.
@@WayStedYou I fucking hate batteries dying when there's a perfectly good, stable, constant source of power that can run the same device. Batteries suck. It's so well built I could bludgeon someone to death with it and then return it to its intended service, it doesn't have stupid flashy RGB bullshit, the keys feel nice under my fingers, and it plugs in rather than relying on a AAA or a built-in lipo cell that dies when you need it the most. Fuck wireless keyboards. Their only use is giving you a proper keyboard on something like a tablet or a phone.

@@veduci22 Not sure what your point is with this comment. When they did the monitor blind test, no one could tell which one had the highest refresh rate. Which tells people to not pay an absurd amount for no difference, it will be the exact same if they tested keyboard polling rates.
100% agree with the review. I think you nailed it. I love the keyboard and the performance is great. The iCUE set up is really clunky. I have headset, mouse and keyboard from Corsair. All the high end and every time I get to the setting and customization is not as smooth and easy to do. I spent about 5 hours on all my devices to set it up as I needed for gaming and working. I have two profiles - One for gaming and second for work. Still high quality and joy to use it 18 hours each day.
I love mine but it has issues. My keys double type (key chatter), some keys get "stuck" and don't type the way they did out of the box or are louder than they should be. can tell a big difference vs 60hz and like 120hz but the difference going from 120hz to 144/165hz is already minimal so going beyond 165hz the difference becomes negligible compared to the price...
For anyone who sees that large polling rate and is excited for it, a little read: ----Key Bouncing All types of key switches - including rubber domes - do this. When you press a key, the switch "bounces" on and off very quickly as it sets into place. This causes keys to register multiple times for each press. Because of this, keyboards need to implement some sort of debouncing delay - so that once you press a key, the controller waits a certain amount of time before registering a keypress. As an example, Cherry MX switches need 5ms of debouncing time, while rubber domes need longer (exactly how long depends on their quality). ----Polling Rates and Response Times While it is very useful for mice, it's just about meaningless for keyboards. Let's assume for a minute that all switches have the 5ms debouncing time of Cherry MX switches (which is being very generous). Even if you had super human speed and reflexes, every single key would be delayed by at least that much. So really, any polling rate over 200Hz (at best) is absolutely useless, and nothing but market hype. It may even be a bit detrimental, because you'd be wasting CPU time polling the keyboard unneededly. And unlike USB keyboards, PS/2 boards aren't polled at all. They simply send the signal to the PC whenever they are ready to, which causes a hardware interrupt, forcing the CPU to register that keystroke. ----PS/2 or USB? PS/2 wins on three fronts: First, it supports full n-key rollover. Second, PS/2 keyboards aren't polled, but are completely interrupt based. And third, it is impossible for it to be delayed by the USB bus being used by other devices. There are two types of USB transfer modes - the interrupt transfer mode (USB polls keyboard, when key is sensed the USB controller sends the interrupt to the CPU), and the isochronous transfer mode, which reserves a certain amount of bandwidth for the keyboard with a guaranteed latency on the bus. Unfortunately, there are absolutely no keyboards made that use the latter, because special controllers would have to be used, thus making it cost prohibitive. So if your keyboard supports both PS/2 and USB, and your PC has a PS/2 port, there's no reason not to use it.
Even on the mouse it's mostly BS for advertising reasons. We're talking about so low numbers that it's utter meaningless. Let alone our own reflexes/responses. Going higher hertz is only worth it on the monitor ( 144Hz ).
Finally a regular bottom row as well! Can put any custom keycaps in that bad boy. FYI CORSAIR used to have custom bottom row for their usual lineup of keyboards.

I like the feature set and full size keyboards in general but a keyboard isn't something you replace often once you have one you like. I also want clicky keys (or at least a very noticable bump at the actuation point). The major improvement a keyboard like this could receive is the ability to use all these features without having the controller software active. That's what I hate about my Razer keyboard, it has many features but the software has to be active for them to work. Fuck that! It should be a matter of set up and forget about it. Not needing the software active for the features to work is the only reason I'd replace my current keyboard prematurely.

I only moved to this from mine because of a sale, the standard bottom row (so I can use my full set of pudding PBT caps), and the better wrist rest. The K95 Platinum non XT wrist rest sucks ass. Gets a lil bit of finger oil on it after a few months and is impossible to fucking clean off.
They need to remove the stupid Corsair logo from the wrist rest, they need to get rid of the iCUE logo from the button and make the button more stable like it belongs, make the button like a streamdeck LED screen, very small and you can put whatever you want on it, make the dial have tactile feedback, change the glossy look on the top to be a bit smaller and make the caps lock and num lock and etc a little more visible, and finally include the blue streamdeck switches again. Lastly put high actuation switches on it like mx browns or reds, or make an opto mechanical switch with a high actuation point then I would buy this keyboard for $230, it's overpriced though
Honestly I was caught off guard when Corsair released this so soon after K95 XT (which was released just 8 months ago). I bought K95 XT just last month, loving it so far and I see several improvements that I like here such as Corsair ditching the non standard bottom row, sturdy stabilizer, more RGB (of course lol), and finally better wrist rest. But it is priced $30 premium than the K95 XT which I kinda glad, otherwise the K95 XT would be eclipsed value wise. However, I think they should just refresh the white keyboard or release TKL variant, I am sure more people are waiting for that instead of this. Also the lack of extended RGB mousepad (or refresh the MM800) in their product catalog is a bit jarring compared to the competitors. Anything but this, too soon after K95 XT.
3 years down the road and I still consider the K100 one of the best in my collection. I upgraded from a K70 Rapidfire and this was a real top-tier keyboard the only negative being the regular non-plush non-RGB wrist-rest. The keys were more thuds than clicks but I learnt to get used to its solidity over time. Corsair's iCue RGB is definitely superior to Razer's offerings at that time.

One thing we need to point out: We need a keyboard sound test on literally every Keyboard review/test on the planet, but only the minority like you does that. Which I really do appreciate. I mean, the sound of a mechanical keyboard is perhaps the one of the main reasons, that is 'game changing' when it comes to the final decision, if I'm gonna buy the keyboard or not! That the way I see this, and again, really thanks for the sound test!

I had three K70 keyboards and they all eventually suffered with the plastic female keycap connector cracking/splitting away from the male + standoff of the Cherry MX switch after about a couple or so years' use, causing the keycaps to become unstable and fall away from the switch while typing. Since then, I've bought two K95's and had no issues so far. Just thought I'd mention this because I've not had the K95's that long so this might still be an issue with both the K95 and K100. Probably an oxidation issue with the plastic that causes it to become brittle over time, so hopefully Corsair's now using a more resilient type of plastic for its keycaps.
honestly, I think full size keeb are the most popular format because most people don't think about getting anything else. Every business keyboard at work is full size full size keayboards are the most common for retail The worst part is that it isn"t because you're releasing a TLK or 60% keeb that it will change most people minds. I recently read in a comment that a full size kebb will always be superior to a smaller one for anything because it has more keys... people want their num pad even if they don't use it. Honestly i was at my limit with the quantity of RGB of the last generation of keyboards from corsair, but this... this is excesive. I think many of us who loves corsair can agree that something that at least used to differenced it from the other brands was the elegancy present on their products, but i would dare to say that even since the last gen of K70's and K95's, that elegancy had slowly disappear untill... this. I honestly think it is too much RGB, not to mention that i find that strange ICUE wheel on the left totally disgusting and i think its the element who more fades the classic elegancy of the brand.
