Join Douglas as his Corbett bagging adventures continue! This time it was a journey south to Galloway and the Corbett of Corserine. To the east of Merrick are vast areas of forestry plantations. The great Rhinns of Kells ridge, however, rises proudly above the treeline and offers an excellent rugged hillwalk. The high point is Corserine, a Corbett and an extensive viewpoint over much of Galloway. The route also takes in the Donalds of Milldown and Meikle Millyea.

Really useful video as I’m heading up there in 3 weeks to climb Corserine. It is my last remaining Corbett South of the highland line. I’m hoping to cycle as far as the edge of the forest, and also visit Carlin’s Cairn, before retracing my steps to retrieve the bike. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a good trip! I’ve still got Shalloch on Minnoch and The Merrick to do. Corserine was a great hike so it will be hard to top that.

The Database of British and Irish Hills (DoBIH) is the bible for summit locations - the SW top is almost 2 metres higher than the trig!

Could you recommend a good reliable pair of walking poles as the Aldi ones I tried died after only one munro?

Hi there. I always go for Leki poles - I currently have the Albula Lite, although I think these might be discontinued now. Hard to go wrong with Leki in my opinion. They’ll be more expensive than Aldi poles, but should hopefully last you a long time! It might be worth popping into a good outdoor store and trying some out. You’ll get various materials for the handle and wrist strap, so best to check them out and see what you prefer.

@@HighlandHikers Thanks a bunch for the prompt reply and the good experienced advice. I always thought that walking poles were just something else to carry, but after trying them out on my son's advice I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were indeed very helpful both going up and coming down. Keep up the good work.

You’re welcome Tom. Poles were a game changer for me! Definitely saved a few sprained ankles over the years as well.

Thanks again for the advice Douglas I managed to pick up a pair of Leki Khumbus on EBay for £50 and like you said it's been a game changer for me. I've been out three or four times and I wouldn't be without them now. Thanks again......again
