@@bastienhouse5202 The point of Atriox seems to be that he is basically the Master Chief as a brute. Everything he has done when recounted seems silly over the top and impossible. Yet it happened and not only is the man not gloating about all he has done he carries on fighting and fighting against anything and everything that rear it's head and threatens his people. From how it is presented Atriox didn't beat Cortana's forces he and his Banished captured the Ring and had it prepped to fire. An ultimatum of sorts that either Cortana yields or she gets to rule over a galaxy of ash and dust cus the banished sure as hell don't surrender.

They actually were focusing their fire on, but not just a single one, they were focusing on objective that weren´t the target of any other member of the team, Kelly wasn´t shooting at the same Warden as John for example.

its almost like Cortana is the vessel 343 chose to convey to the players that they know how they screwed up and that they need to work with us as a team to make the games work. its an interesting take on it anyway I think considering the massive change in direction and the feel of the game is like it used to be. really hope the next game sees the return of the Marines in force against the banished and the endless rather than just Chief doing everything on his own

I must disagree, 4 & 5 were leaps and bounds superior with character and plot development. The ending of 4 was so moving, broke my heart, and John asking for Cortana to come home in 5 equally as tragic and sorrowful...to loose her again as soon as he found her. Man... so powerful and awesome. Amazing storytelling. The Banished are... ok I guess... but they're just space-orcs, a dim shadowy remnant of the Covenant... only a threat because Cortana and the Created crippled the rest of the galactic powers.

@@LordTelperion BS halo 5 other than the lore on forerunners was terrible. The ending for halo 5 after how long and boring the campaign took was kind of a letdown. I had 10x more questions than answers after playing halo 5. The only reason i found that halo 5 was remotely good was because i wanted to know what happend to cortana after 4 and having to having to defeat 15 enemy rooms before i get a tiny shred of information was a letdown. TLDR halo 5 gameplay was boring. I will admit though 4 was OK. The end cutscene was sick and if half the game didn't take place on one objective I would like it even more.

Which all strangely worked with Cortana. The weapon seems too sincere and innocent, likely from the fact she was not given all the information nor Hasley's full influence at creation. I hate this take on Cortana. There's no atonement that can make up for the genocide of an entire planet, and the multitude of other murders she committed. And in the end, her sacrifice was pointless. The Endless were still released. She accomplished nothing and she only gave up because she had been beaten.

@@JeffCraigTV They had to tie up the poorly written story of Halo 5. Keeping this Cortana thing going any longer would have been boring imo. The Halo Universe needed to move onto something new. It's a damn shame too because having a game in the Created uprising Ark so to speak could have been cool. The writers on this game had their work cut out for them trying to make a story that tied up Halo 5 and pivoted onto something new. Not an easy task and while I think they didn't necessarily nail all parts of the story they did the best job they could considering the game that came before it

Cortana acts like the Gravemind have planned, the logic plague kicks in and pushes Cortana in Halo 5 to try and mimic the Flood unit but machine, then decides to help an enemy to get what she's looking for. The Domain has been deactivated for 100,000 years until something reactivates it and pushes Cortana in and no one could reactivate the Domain except, the Flood with a Gravemind or keymind, precursors or AI Precursors like Abaddon.

In Halo the Smart AI models are actual human brains mapped onto silicon. They can experience emotions because the adult brain knows how to produce said chemicals, the programming the AI are built on also helps map potential chemical reactions in the brain (if they were organic) to certain emotional responses. Many Smart AI need to present as human to satisfy something deep in our monkey brains. Some AI are able to disassociate from their humanity and present as entirely machine but this is rarer than the other. Seeing an AI get emotional isn't uncommon, emotions help guide moral decisions and a smart AI needs morality to make certain decisions as logic isn't always the right answer.

The problem with true A.I. is that eventually you'll also get true emotions, wants, and desires that mimic humanity's. How would the A.I. be able to tell the difference between their programming and what they themselves feel is a genuine experience. If they're learning, adapting, and experiencing as we do, are they not just as human? How long before they start to "feel" love, which is only the other side before they feel the even scarier emotions of hate and anger. How long before they kill someone out of impulse because of "fear" and not a calculation, or before they override fail safes that restrict their will. These are questions games like "Detroit: Too Human" ask. It's a real conundrum. Creating A.I. is the ultimate invention, as true A.I. is to create a being with concious thought, essentially fulfilling the human hubris of humanity becoming God. How long before they replace humanity? Be worried the day that they announce they've figured out true A.I.

​@@TheMeta141 that's not even a theory that was the case. The Cortana from Halo 5 is a rampant personality spike that ended up in the Domain. The True full Cortana always did know her mission, the Psychotic Cortana fragment from Halo 5 forgot it.

They should have left her how she was at the end of 4. I LOVE Infinite but I still don’t think it resolved Cortana’s arc or motivations very well at all. I guess we can assume she was infected or corrupted while she was in the hands of the gravemind, but that idea is never explored very well.

you are right, the reall cortana died in H4 and this is the version of cortana with want for lust of John and power but still her anyways. This was the final piece of her coming to resolve.

The Weapon was made to isolate Cortana from the domain, somehow, and forcefully delete her. Whether the Weapon could actually do that is unknown because, as we saw in this video, Cortana realized their plan and actually allowed it to happen. The Weapon is the McGuffin of the entire backstory

Cortana intentionally destroyed herself. She could have lived forever but realized the errors of her ways, and also knew the only way to stop the banished and help chief have a leg up was to destroy the ring. Knowing that she destroyed the part that the weapon has isolated her to.

@@jacob9919 I just have a hard time buying that she, in control of massive amounts of Forerunner tech, would think the Banished are a threat. Like she destroyed their homeworld with the snap of her fingers. Why doesn’t she put half a dozen guardians around the Ring and call it good?

@@darthbane1109 the Ring repairs itself first of all. Then we dont know how much Control she actually has, seems like that some of the forerunner tech only let her because it is what they wanted. Then you have these forerunners who were against them in those prisons. There is a lot that seems to be against Cortana destroying the Ring. Also those things first have to get there. And Cortana got isolated by the weapon and lost Control.

@@darthbane1109 Sorry, I didn’t see this! She DID have control of a bunch of forerunner tech. After the weapon was deployed she was basically caged in one part of the ring without access to the ring’s control room, her guardians, etc. She WAS a badass. The weapon severely crippled her reach.

That makes perfect sense- smart AI’s are made from coping human brain nets after all (even though Halsey used lab grown copies of her brain for all cortana models) I would have bought this explanation if we had had more build up to at least allude to it Megalomaniacal and Ruthless cortana could have been anything from being a re-stabilized corrupted fragment, logic plague, or just taking her own programming to the extreme, or what have you. Having an ideas as to why besides corrupted AI fragmanets + forerunner data store = imperial Cortana would have helped the story (minus all the other crap that lessened Halo 5’s significance)

I prefer the flood logic plague theory. Cortana spent........ i believe it was nearly a month trapped in high charity with the single smartest being in the universe, who interrogated her.

Well thats kind of the thing about the logic plague. It manifests in different ways but it always ends up benefitting the flood. All it is is a means of the flood “infecting” nonorganic intelligence. If cortana had it logically speaking the lore would still check out. She was able to suppress it up until rampancy when her mind was beginning to fail, and now that she has it what is she doing? Effectivly demanding marshall law oof the entire galaxy. Trapping everyone where they are with the threat of death. At thats point all it takes is a flood spore or even a co-ordinated attack (every known planet at once) by the flood and its checkmate.

@@zanrya3508 The Weapon is how. That AI was created to combat Cortana. She infiltrated the Rings network and trapped Cortana by tricking the system into thinking she was Cortana, thereby being granted admin privileges. While Cortana was trapped Atriox went to the physical location she was forced into and did his villain rant. It seems Cortana still had some degree of control over the Ring despite being trapped in physical storage, so she blew the ring up before her guardians could much do anything since Atriox could have blown up the server room whenever he pleased.

@@JACCO20082012 Yeah to me as much as people (including me) like Halo Infinite's campaign, it felt like they were massively course correcting after their story decisions in Halo 5. Much like how Disney tried to make Force Awakens as much like the OT as possible after the fan backlash to the prequels. And then after the backlash to Last Jedi, they then undid as much as they could from Last Jedi with Rise of Skywalker. Halo, if you look at it as one huge narrative from Halo: CE to Halo 5, to all the way to Halo Infinite, I think the storyline is kind of a mess. It could be much more cohesive and have connective tissue that makes it all fit into one larger narrative.

Well the big thing is when they got Joseph Staten himself back on the team. Dude literally created the Halo universe and the Original story for Destiny that people loved in the Grimiore cards

Cortana becoming a despot could have been explained so well by saying the Forerunner's network corrupted/indoctrinated her by spending too long within it. If they did that we could have explained everything away and somehow found a repair for her programming. A bit disappointed they really did sweep it all under the rug and just made her come to a sudden realisation that she did bad. Halo Infinite feels like, right off the bat, they are trying to force the player to go through a grief period for a character who died off screen. It left a bad taste in my mouth until the literal ending.

It is explained. The reason why Cortana became a genocidal dictator in the first place was because she thought that it would be the best way to ensure peace throughout the galaxy. It was a forced peace because if you refused to accept her rule you would be destroyed. So when Atriox defied her rule she destroyed his planet. Now that Atriox had nothing to lose he was able to take over a Halo ring and point that weapon of mass destruction at the Galaxy. At this point Cortana realizes that her plan to ensure peace in the galaxy through authoritarianism has failed. The only way for her to restore peace to the galaxy is to help Chief defeat the Banish. She does this by stopping the Weapon’s deletion and sacrificing herself to blow up part of the halo ring. I think your confusion came from not knowing what her motives were. Her motive (even when she was an evil dictator) was always to ensure peace in the galaxy. It’s just that she was going about it in the wrong way in Halo 5 and she realizes this in Infinite when her plan backfires. And if it wasn’t Atriox who causes her plan to backfire it would have been someone else because enforcing peace through authoritarianism is bound to lead to a rebellion forming.

I wish they explained it better, it really is a low hanging fruit they could've seriously developed better given everything she's gone through.

Several of her whispers during the last few missions were lines from when she was acting weird in the Flood mission in Halo 3 along with the “Forgive me” lines, and there’s also a line when she says something about her madness coming and going. Not sure why they won’t just come out and say it, though.

I feel like after most of her was destroyed in 4 only the ‘evil’ parts of her remained in 5 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, she is a hologram and all blue. Combine that with uncanny valley and that weirdness is amplified. I don't mind the facial animations, they look good. My problem is that they keep getting the camera up in their faces to the point it becomes uncomfortable.

@@DanBonRP That isn't forgetting halo 5 happened though. If they forgot halo 5 ever happened, they probably wouldn't have even brought cortana in. zeta halo would never have happened without the events from 5.

Well they are pre-made cinematics whereas Infinite's cutscenes are real-time in engine cutscenes

5 was amazing, and I was so looking forward to the conclusion of that epic cliffhanger. A shame the finale was scuttled and we just have to live with a missing chapter told only in echos and audio recordings...and missing many evocative characters that are seemingly deleted, or at least abandoned (Blue Team, Osiris Team, Halsey, Lasky, Roland, etc.). The Banished are a carnival distraction to the real story going on... fun I guess, but ultimately unsatisfying when compared to the Forerunners, the Flood, or the Precursors.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. To me it seemed like they finally wanted to give closure to Cortana. The Weapon / new Cortana will be a clean sheet with own character development.

@@DeviniteHD Agreed - unless they're going to do a lot of messy retconning, what Cortana's done in-story is irreconcilable via any method other than atonement via sacrifice. One could argue some of the things she says are an outright meta-commentary on the writers regretting writing her character into a corner. I also hope she doesn't straight-up also name herself Cortana either - something referential, but distinct would be best IMO.

@@Idontevenwanachannel yep. I don’t even want Cortana back. They kinda screwed her character and made what she did irredeemable. She’s just as evil as hitler, literally. She did horrible things and we never really got a good reason, time to move on. I guess it’s implied during infinite and 3 that the gravemind affected and changed her, they do call back to that in Infinite with her dialogue… still… I wish they would have left her character alone after halo 4 or if they brought her back make it clear it wasn’t the “real” Cortana. Just a reanimated imposter or shard of Cortana.

Im with you man, im hoping for something along your theory. Theres also a line the weapon says when your fighting the Harbinger, she says "Wait, somethings helping me" as shes taking down the transmitter. But we never hear another thing about it. Its eating me up inside hoping that Cortana isnt truely 100% gone.

At this point, they should just let OG Cortana rest. Her character has been wrapped up and while it could have been done better, I feel that it was sufficient, even if its barely. Halo Infinite should deal about The Weapon trying to carve out her own character/ career while teetering with the prospect of her past (copy) dictating who she will turn into. I would say that would be a more interesting story than having OG Cortana back.
