After rebuilding the powerglide transmission on my 1964 Corvair Monza. It's time to install it in the car along with the motor. I freshened some things up to make the whole job cleaner. Now let's put the transmission to the test!
I've done many projects solo, and it can get frustrating with repeated steps, misplaced tools, improvising, etc. I can imagine that trying to film and narrate the work would be difficult. Thanks for the video, and I hope you enjoy that Corvair!
@@259Den3 What's difficult for me is trying to organize my thoughts and words so that it sounds good and well done for the video, as well as getting video clips that kinda flow. I feel like my videos can be unorganized or choppy. Thanks for your comment!
Maybe recheck fluids when warm as trans fluids expand when hot. An overfilled trans is no bueno. Good job. Brings back memories of being happy after major surgery on my 64. It would never fail tho that something else would come up right after. So dont be surprised.
Been using it as a daily when I can. I've put hundreds of miles on that transmission now, shifts great. Handles 55 and 60 mph well. 70 gets a little shakey
The E clip will cause poor or non shifting. Don't ask me how I know. That was like 25 years ago. I've owned my Corvair for 39 years! Yikes. If you can get non ethanol premium, that will help with your engine knock. $$
How's it going ben, I am new to Corvairs, as I have just received one from my grandpa, It has not started in about 20 years, and it has been sitting in a barn since then, it is a 64' Monza 900 convertible, I am not the smartest guy when it comes to working on cars, but I am hoping to learn, I can not drive yet as I am not old enough, but I am planning on fixing it up for high school , The car is one of the strangest but one of the prettiest automobiles I have ever seen. I have found out that the transmission has issues, it always want to go to neutral in between 3rd and 4th gear, and it goes to 3 gear from reverse, it just floats back, any pointers man? that would be great, thanks.
I also had no idea what I was doing when I got started working on my corvair. I'm not knowledgeable on the inner workings of the manual transmission but my advice to you is to get a shop manual, read up on forums and watch videos on old cars, try to understand the function of each component of the motor and how they all work together. I hope you get to drive it to High School! I was a little too late to get the chance to drive mine to high school, so hopefully you get to live out my dream. Good luck!
Hey B. B. Massive thumbs up on getting her back together ! & Rolling & Running , & that engine compartment looks awesome as well as the trans.Massive job! to do solo ! Congratulations!!!!!!! Did You ever pick up the other Corvair ? Really happy for You ! & that everything came together , Thanks for the video🙂!!!!!Bravo.
The other corvair I had mentioned was a friend's. I think I still have the videos I took of the work I did to it. I'll try to get around to uploading those too!
I would like to but most of the time when I do work on it I kinda just want to focus on it with no phone. When I do record video, later when I try to edit it together it does flow well cause I leave big gaps In the time between recordings
I had planned to upload other videos on things I was doing to the car but I'm just going to make on update video soon. Some small things have been done, mainly been driving it!
