You can get the cable from eBay for less than $50.
2006-2013 CORVETTE 6SPD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE NEW GM # 20782446
I had already replaced the shifter end bushing a few years ago and figured I should go ahead and replace the entire cable.

Thanks for the video, dealer here in Southern California wanted 720 dollars to change this cable. Watched the video, got the cable for 70 dollars at dealer and paid my cousin 100 bucks to do it. Shifter feels much sturdier now than ever, thanks again!

This video was extremely helpful. I used your video and changed the shift cable in my 2010 grand sport without a hitch. Thanks for posting this.

this was a fantastic video, I just changed my cable, just 2 suggestions , install the shifter seat first,then do the back, also there is a copper staple that goes in between the slats of the back seat,again thanks very much!

Thanks so much for the video. I had the dreaded no shift issue. Luckily it was the bushing at the shifter and I was at my son's house so I could make it home. Finally got time today to do the replacement. Your video made it much easier. The shifter end latch was a bear. I finally managed to get it to snap into the bracket by tying a piece of twine on the cable and pull down.

Thank you very much for the vid'. I had turned my '06 around in the drive and pulled in the garage and got on the ramps to do other work. I put it in park and turned off the engine. When I went to start the car it wouldn't engage the starter. I the car put in Acc. and the shifter came out of Park but felt like mush. I pulled the shifter and found the front bushing absent. I put a new one in that end and i still felt like mush. After further inspection i found the cable kinked and frayed. That is when I found your vid' after looking through RU-vid you were the best. Thanks again. Yes I am thanking God I was home when this happened, sheeeesh! Just think if the top of the tunnel had a large access panel to the rear of car. mmmmmmmmm, next time I guess, lol.

I’m glad I could help. The first time my car wouldn’t start, it was in the garage. Since it wasn’t actually in park it could have rolled if there was any slope to the floor. That time I only replaced the front bushing. I wish I had done the entire cable then.

My 08 Tahoe did the same thing, luckily I had room to drill the pin out and put a washer and bolt in place of the bushing bull crap

Yes, that is correct. I thought I would get a G.M. not made in China. But the one I bought from a Chevrolet Dealership was Guess what Made In China. Go Figure! Yes that was the number I got from the dealership. With a GM label on the box. Thanks again for the detailed instructions. Mine was for a 2007 ( Bushings gone on it to).

When I replaced the battery cables they were GM labeled, made in China.

All you need to do is replace the bushings! I'm sure the cable is fine-- spend $2 at the auto parts buy the doorman white and clear bushing kit pop them in and you're good to go. 😁

I had already replaced the bushings so this is the second time they had failed. I don’t want my wife getting stranded somewhere so I feel better replacing the whole cable.

If i have the shifter removed , i have to put everything back , and connect first the shifter end , Then the transmission at the end ? both on neutral ?
@JohnLatrobe
@JohnLatrobe 6 месяцев назад
Yes, place both in neutral and then set the clip to lock in the adjustment.

Is there any BETTER cable made for this application?…why replace the cheap, failure-prone cable with the same thing?
@JohnLatrobe
@JohnLatrobe 3 месяца назад
I don’t think there’s anything available other than OEM. Unless the aftermarket gets involved it seems that OEM replacement parts continue to go downhill in quality and fitment as cheaper manufacturers find more ways to cut costs.

@@JohnLatrobe thanks…I’m considering just making up a Morse cable like the ones I use for my shifter and parachute release on my race cars…

Good luck haha. It just takes some patience. Oh, and I forgot to show the metal clip on the rear. It looks like a big staple and keeps the plastic tabs spread apart so the cable can’t slip through the mounting bracket.

When I checked to see if the cable was the problem my shifter was stuck in park already if I plan to do this do I just set the rear switch to park or do they both have to be in neutral in order for this to work when the switch broke off it was in park so now it’s just stuck there
@JohnLatrobe
@JohnLatrobe Год назад
It shouldn’t matter where the shifter and trans lever are, but they need to be the same when you set the cable adjustment.

When you put the transmission in neutral was the gear in park on top ?
@JohnLatrobe
@JohnLatrobe 3 года назад
No. Put the shifter in neutral before you begin.
@horsecockexpress7612

isn't it a lot easier to get the front one from the top instead of removing exhausts and tunnel plates
@JohnLatrobe
@JohnLatrobe 11 месяцев назад
IDK. It would be hard to route the cable. Maybe you could tie the new cable to the old one and pull it through but if I tried to do that it would definitely snag on something.

that was quite a big clunk going from N to D at the end. Whats happening there?
