Bravo to Philip Harper and the band for topping off what was a memorable day at The Open with this faultless stupendous effort. The cherry on the cake of my day.....
translation: Even in a brass band competition, if you can perform so wonderfully with such a small number of people, it will definitely be a gold medal at the national competition.
Well, it's a good performance. However It doesn't sound very different from the other top bands. Soloists did well, but could have done better - didn't win no prizes - did they?
Great band, great playing, great hall -> Yes! But really a great piece? I don't think so. But even if the piece is not great it's not a reason to give this a thumbs down considering the effort of everyone involved.
13:40 and from 13:53 is spine tinglingly brilliant how can this be given a thumbs down? Somebody posted “typical brass bands boring” what a deluded tosser This is world class musicians playing a difficult test piece BRAVO
@@stappnes literally says winning performance in the title I’m sure Steven walker already knows they won. And it was a brilliant performance. Miles better than the rest. No need to be so belittling

Please explain: the contest is sold out, Cory is No 1 in the world band ranking, and yet there are dozens of empty seats?! Where are these people? Having lunch?
@@Threepi80 well, the empty seats could belong to the Cory players, the previous band, and the next band on who will be busy in registration, and there will always be people who don't turn up, or decide that they dont want to listen to umpteen performances of a piece they dont like.
"The composition reflects on the tragic circumstances that arose from the series of terrorist attacks in the Belgian capital on March 12th 2016 that left 32 people dead and over 300 injured. However, in light of similar attacks in the UK, Europe and around the world since this time, the work also acts as a prescient touchstone on more immediate tragedies."
Basically.....as a percussionist, what I think happened was that the percussionist playing the hi-hat part didn't put his foot down on the peddle so the initial sound of the hi-hat was trashy rather than closed and more articulated.
George Arthur you are exactly right. The hi hat clutch was very loose though and I had to press the pedal hard down as hard as could after the first entry when I realised and tighten later in the performance when I had chance. I am the guy playing it on the video. We don’t get chance to check every bit and bolt out in the short amount of time we get to set up unfortunately.
A Brussels requiem for...…. the EU or the vegetable? Both make a lot of wind!! Now to the band - that takes a lot of wind too but in parts it is quite listenable to. The Judges must have liked it a lot as well to award the trophy to Cory.
It happens. I'm sat the the left of the black light hanging down, literally the first person you see at the top. It was an unbelievable performance. Splits happen, but honestly in the hall and with the rest of performance, it made no difference. I played for Flowers that day on top Trom.
Love the band, but the "music" is truly dreadful. Sounds like someone on a bad drug trip. Only managed a few minutes, hoping it would get better, it didn't.
