Take a child prodigy on organ, raise him in the CHURCH and this is the kind of genius and SOUL you end up with. Praise the Lord and crank up the Hammond!
Any parent that ever said, "If you keep making faces, it'll stay that way" has obviously never listened to Cory Henry. Your face will continue to find a new shape to make while you listen to his solos.
I am 95% sure that he has moved bass notes to the lowest octaves of the upper manual as well as pedals. Every time there are really slick walking lines, his left hand is playing those very notes. I doubt he doubles the feet. That is by no means criticism, though. This is absolutely awesome, and I could only dream of getting to a fraction of that level. The only player I have seen on video kicking really advanced funk lines is Barbara Dennerlein. She is not quite as groovy as mr. Henry though.
@@andersgadejensen6945 You could be right.. but it could be because the left hand guides the bass and he's also playing it with the foot. There's a lot of videos of him playing sick bass lines I doubt he mods every hammond he gets. The mind-body connection is such that the left hand has the "brains" of those lines, but the feet can move along. Its kinda like humming to a melody you are playing on the piano, a lot easier to hum it while playing it then humming it from scratch. In this case the foot is the "hummer" and the left hand is the melodic bass.
@@elanfrenkel8058 I don't think you need modding. Drawbar adjustments might do. I think the low 16' bar is the same for the pedal manual as for the upper manuals.
@@georgerussell2947 I think it's like 95% practice and 5% talent. There are some things some people can learn more easily than others and some other things that are just a bit more difficult for them to learn than others but it's mostly about practice.
Church music is powerful and highly spiritual. I believe he's connecting to his root at the entire video. This is the first video i have seen Cory in full body expression in his performance. Remain Blessed Master!
Cory is awesome!! I can watch him play all day. I love the sound of the B3 organ, it has a voice (sound) of it's own. When you walk into a Church building, and the music is blasting, the sound👂from that B-3, actually says welcome! 🎹 💯
I love to see how child like with joy he is when he plays the Hammond. He's an inspiration for all musicians: never forget the joy that music has given you.
Hahaha I'm smiling all the way through and I just can't explain it on rational level. Thank you for the joy Cory, you're pure example of what music can be!
My first "contact" I had at the concert in Frankfurt (Germany) via Radio (25.10.17). Thank´s God, that I have a recording, of a new experience in music-listening. Your Hammond-Solo gets under the skin! At this moment I felt blessed, that I could participate this moment!!!
I'll have to agree, I've seen a couple different videos of him playing this song and yet, each time is truly different. Thus proving my theory that all music, solo, chops, etc come from the soul!
Nick Gendolfe if someone is against the concept of "real music" it must be cory. I dont know if youre anti-pop or anti electronic, but either of them is not harming anyone (one is a business, the other is just different)
And yet another masterful performance. This man has brought me to a new level of understanding and praise. O bless me lord to be in the midst of this warrior of melody. Wow
Don Patterson, Big John Patton, Shirley Scott, Jimmy Smith, Brother Jack et al. Hammond+Leslie is a fading light that once burned bright. Good to hear it is still getting the workout it deserves, especially with this sactified vibe.
I have become addicted to this guy's videos after seeing him play for Snarky Puppy on a Facebook video. He is sickly and madly talented. Besides, he plays passionately. Keep up the good works bro. One love

The soul of a jazz organist. The great Cory Henry. So good man! I'd wish one day he will come to LA to perform at a jazz club so I can be there to watch some of his greatestest moments.
Love Cory's playing. He is a huge talent and we're blessed to have organists like him still carrying the Hammond flag high and proud. I was very saddened that Dr Lonnie Smith passed away recently - he was the 'grand daddy' of Hammond players but the likes of Cory, Barbara Dennerlein and of course Joey de Francisco plus a few others keep the skill of playing bass on those pedals, well and truly alive. God bless them.
Hi Corey, I was blessed to come across your music a couple of days and you are truly gifted. Never deny your roots or that tree, or the wheat. :-) Your music has been ministering to my soul, and I have been checking you out. Never let money lure you away from the love, because only what you do for HIM will last. Very pleased to see that you have only ventured out to Jazz thus far. :-)
