Welcome! My name is Jface and I'm a TTRPG & Board Game enthusiast. I'm in the midst of creating my own game, and as I go through the process i'm exploring what makes other games work so well. We are analyzing mechanics, and the math behind it as well as the general feel. If you are also building a game then come along for the ride!

2d8 damage on a shardblade? Thats feels a bit underweaming. I mean, those weapons were suposed to be worth Kingdons...

I think they automatically cause injuries though, which are big. I think they also avoid deflects. I agree they should be very powerful, but I’m sure they had a hard time making them instagibs, haha

They looked at how various systems handled lightsabers when stating shardblades. One thing to note is that HP damage doesn't necessarily map 1:1 to being wounded. Instead it can represent anything that puts you closer to taking an injury such as your stamina being worn down from having to desperately dodge a shardblade. A few things to note. First they do spiritual damage which bypasses deflect. Second they have deadly so they can do injuries any time you get an opportunity. Third, they have their own unique injury table that is a lot harsher than the normal one and includes blade-dead limbs which can't be healed without radiant healing. Also unimportant/nameless foes can be treated as dead with any injury so you will be sometimes one-shotting with these. We don't have the stats yet on Radiant blades but it's highly likely those will be able to take the form of any weapon which means they will additionally have other weapon traits.

Use hammer with expertise, take a slow turn, 1. Disengage 2. Move 3. Attack with advantage. Repeat this to always have advantage using Momentum. That's what one of my players did during Alpha testing
@jfacegames7354
@jfacegames7354 Месяц назад
I’d like to slow turn, gain advantage, move, attack with hammer. Then you’d have two advantages. 1 for the attack and 1 for the Plot die 🤪 And if a friend uses the Aid reaction you’d have 3 advantages!!

@@jfacegames7354 dang. I am curious, because this was a question my players had during Alpha testing and I haven't been keeping up with things so I don't know if it has been addressed; can you wear a uniform under regular armor? We see them doing this in the books, so it isn't a silly question, but I don't think they intended us to layer armor
@jfacegames7354
@jfacegames7354 Месяц назад
@rookiecookie722 I don’t think so? But I have no idea. I just no that one big feature was taking Expertise in armor to then be able to wear it in public…which makes me think they have an important distinction there in terms of wearing uniforms vs armor
@rookiecookie722
@rookiecookie722 Месяц назад
@@jfacegames7354 the expertise that I remember is that you can wear armor in public and people don't find it weird or offensive. I think you can still wear it in public without the expertise, but some shops won't let you buy or sell because it's weird

Does the game look like its going to be using adv/dis as the primary methods of buffing characters? I really hope not because as elegant as adv/disadv can be they also limit teamplay. I really think rpgs need to explore other primary methods for buffs like the expertise system from A5E.

I think the he answer is yes, but the optionality of results is where this might be more interesting? You get an opportunity on the Plot Die (a crit) and you still have 4 optional bonuses to choose from. - get that max damage? Throw advantage to a friend? Change the narrative to put the situation in a better light? Gain a focus? Also, I have a feeling that the Plot Die and player powers will be robust with other options for teamwork this is just the very base mechanic

@@jfacegames7354 sounds good, I guess I'm just tired of adv/dis. It has its place, but it's boring and doesn't really allow for something to be a team effort because you can only ever have 1 adv on a roll. Also, I REALLY dislike adv for spells and abilities that should augment your ability to accomplish something above what you could normally do because adv doesn't change the bounds of a roll it just makes them more likely to be higher. For example, if a tineye (when they are added) only gets adv on awareness checks it's sort of shitty because a normal person with the same awareness score can sense just as well. Or the same character without burning tin can sense just as well, just less often. A flat bonus or bonus die to awareness though, that would make it so that the tineye actually has super human senses or has the ability to push past their normal sense since it expands the range the tineye can actually roll. Flat bonuses or bonus die make the impossible possible, adv just makes the totally doable likely.

@Oreonis I think this is a fair point and concern. I haven’t read a lot of powers yet, but I wonder if they are like Quest where certain things just occur when paid for. You just do badass stuff. I did see in a playtest that someone touched a large boulder and turned it into water. So…that definitely was massive of a power and interesting beyond just purely getting adv/dis. So I think the mechanics are design simply to not get in the way, and the powers are going to be very extraordinary

I think it depends. If that is what you want then sure. I have one player that looks at advantage and the hammer effect like in this vid and that caught their attention. I have another player that took expertise in Leather adn then played envoy and took the ability to get more defense when presentable and then has Brace items so they are strong on defense. Then I have another player that focuses on the plot die and its effects and uses that as a means to play around.
