Can't you zoom in with Ctrl + + in files like in cosmic-term or are you referring to something else? list view is also supported no?

Oo i didnt know this, thank you! And yes the list view is available, i didnt know this either so thank you i also fixed the drives in cosmic files, i just needed to install gnome disks to enable show in user interface on the drives

Man Cosmic is looking so good. I have full faith it will sit at the top with Gnome and KDE.
@mortadelaok
@mortadelaok 6 дней назад
Same. I really like the polish and animations on GNOME, but its defaults are questionable at best and I hate when extensions break (mandatory I use Arch btw). So I use KDE with a top panel and a dock, just like the default mode on Cosmic. It's what better fits my workflow and expectations. I would also like to have the ability to tile windows, but I don't want a tiling WM. I don't care about the drama and tribalism of devs whining and bitching like little girls. I just want something in between KDE and GNOME, and Cosmic seems like the right choice. I really hope all bugs and performance issues get solved quickly

@mortadelaok yoo your speaking my language, i feel the exact same way lol Kde plasma isnt my favorite in terms of design but i like the features Gnome i like the design but i have to add extensions but then extensions break and i personally dont like how long gnome take for said features to arrive and how you should be forced to use gnomes workflow instead of using extensions WMs are something i cant get used to but i miss the tiling on pop os and kde plasmas one isnt auto tiling Cosmic is the best of all worlds :) And the devs seem rlly nice listening to them on the podcasts they have done and the presentations they have done also about cosmic

I think it has the potential to do even better. KDE is TOO configurable to the point that it’s complex while Gnome actively ignores what its users want and does its own thing. If Cosmic can hit that middle ground between those while also offering great tiling support this can go far. That’s not even to mention how new the code base is so there isn’t any tech debt to hold them back.
@Novalax
@Novalax 5 дней назад
@@Drazil100 Honestly, I agree. I just know how tribal some people get about their DE of choice, so I didn't want to go that far :P

Two versions of the application is a Flatpak feature - you can install system-wide or per-user. You can install both as they go to different locations. If it installs both when you requested just one, that would be a bug.
@linuxnext

yes thats for flatpak, discord is installed as a system package from the arch repos, thats why im confused i also dont use user for flatpak only system flatpak

I'm curious what you think about the rise of cosmic desktop in light of the fact that KDE is not receiving all of the funding they need. I know it sounds a bit random but if the userbase, even if its only a fraction of people, eventually move to cosmic, how will this affect the long-term development of KDE if it receives even less donations? Something ive been thinking about, could be nothing but would like to get your take :)
@linuxnext
@linuxnext 5 дней назад
i think there will be kde users, cosmic is something that a good amount of users dont like, there is always fights going about the desktop people use and how its better so i think kde will be fine
@6maronas
@6maronas 4 дня назад
A note about kde since there was apparently confusion? Have seen this brought up a few times, it seems they were "overspending" because they needed to reduce their surplus stash as a non profit I.e. it was on purpose, not that they aren't getting all of the funding they need

I like it a lot, i just want it so when you minimize apps they go back to their icon and not a second icon. Also window in focus border is way too big and needs work
@linuxnext
@linuxnext 3 дня назад
you can change the border to very little or none, the closets you can get with minimize apps is removing the second icon applet so it doesnt do that

I don't know how it all works, but can Wayland maintainers now just roll FreeSync into its code base to address the screen tearing issue? If not possibly as a one-to-one drop in, could the code not be adapted, at least, for a display protocol use? It's open source, so why not use it? I'm guessing it just wouldn't work, but am just wondering if it would.
@linuxnext
@linuxnext 5 дней назад
I am unsure, asking gemini ai model it thinks doing freesync in wayland itself is complex situation and recommends implementing freesync in the desktop compositor itself All that is required for screen tearing is for cosmic to implement the Tearing Control Protocol v1 so then you can use async with the updated atomic api in the kernel in fullscreen games Kde plasma updated theirs to the new one in 6.2 beta and it works very well Cosmic will also need to implement explicit sync protocol for nvidia cards to stop the bad tearing that happens
@HickoryDickory86
@HickoryDickory86 12 часов назад
@@linuxnext hmmmmm Interesting. Then again, AI can get things disastrously wrong. It just made sense to me; but I also don't know the specific ins and outs of that technology. But if KDE Plasma 6.2 did it and it's working fine, then Cosmic should be able to do the same. And yes, it seems they will have to be protocols integrated into the desktop itself and made invisible to the GPUs or their drivers in order to be vendor-agnostic. That's why my fallback is AMD's FreeSync, since it was released as free and open source from the beginning and works on all GPUs, including Nvidia.

I thought the microphone (or sound capture) issue you had would be much worse lol, I am glad it wasn't that bad. Anyway, I really like the UI of Cosmic DE, and I like the fact that it's based on GNOME (?). What I don't like is that, I have to go to terminal all the time and do a sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and then I have to add "options snd-hda-intel model=alc294-lenovo-mic" . I have yet to see a Linux distro that is compatible with my laptop (or whatever the issue is, that is preventing the OS from using my Asus ROG Strix G15's speakers.). Also, does arch or arch based distros finally come with Nvidia 560 drivers? I have been thinking about installing EndeavourOS but if I do the nvidia-inst on terminal, will I get the option to install 560 driver? Oh, and one more thing, when I had Fedora 40 installed, I had the same ubisoft launcher bug thing (whenever I would launch Ubisoft Connect through Lutris.) I hope they fix it before the final release.
@linuxnext
@linuxnext 6 дней назад
@@ViperKang yeah the audio bug is just my interface, i rlly want to use that mic but i have to turn my gain all the way up and its fine until those issues start happening Cosmic is def inspired by gnome in many ways and i like it also, but the good thing is i think they will do a better job at bringing the latest features similar to how kde plasma works Checking your laptop on archwiki for sound which i dont know the exact one you have, it seems it's supported without needing do to anything to get it working wiki.archlinux.org/title/Laptop/ASUS And yes arch is on the 560 drivers and if you use nvidia-inst it will grab it

@@linuxnext Mine is Asus Rog Strix G15 G512LV, sadly it is not available there but at least I can get it working. Plus, if it doesn't work I have an external speaker and a headset so it should be okay I guess but I have yet to see a Linux distribution that supports my laptop's speakers out of the box :(
@linuxnext
@linuxnext 6 дней назад
@@ViperKang what i would do is open a bug report directly with pipewire and see what their devs say, explain what you have done to get the speakers working If its working with that modprobe then this may not be to hard to implement into whatever project is needed gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire Good luck :)
