My friend gave me this track on a mix CD some time before my younger brother died. One day, a little after his death, I smoked a joint and stood out on the porch with my discman. I put the song on and looked up at the sky, trying, as I sometimes did then, to make the moment some kind of tribute to my brother. Right when the main melody came in at 2:07, following a repeated whisper of "I love you," a jet appeared. It came in from the far left, entering my vision in timing with the dropping of the synth notes. I watched it cross the blue sky as the melody played, suspended without a beat. The plane disappeared from my sight at 2:49, exactly when the beat dropped, and for the duration of the track I stood looking up at a white line across the sky, slowly disintegrating. Never before or since has music so perfectly timed itself to another part of my life, and matched with the larger circumstances it felt like--well, I'm sure you can guess. Obviously, Cosmicman had no idea that his song would form a synchronous, one-in-a-million-odds epiphany for some lonely, bereft, desperate soul, but I hope he knew when he was laying down the track that he was making something truly beautiful. I want to thank him.
