Due to an unseasonal amount of rain, our adventures have been limited. We did manage to get out about an hour from Melbourne, and have included some of that 4WD footage in this video.
We are hoping that you will enjoy a cost break down of everything we have spent to date on the Fortuner, along with how much a day trip cost us plus our future wish list.
Stick around to the end for some good news.

Great video. I had a good look at your list and its well thought out - we're tempted with all sorts of dubious accessories by the 4WD shops that have sprung up everywhere. BTW there's one thing I didn't see specifically mentioned but I'm sure you'll have one is a shovel😉!!

I’ve just done a fortuner and no change out of $15k Fuel tank,2inch lift etc touring rig’ have fun! And that’s know people ‘ off-road and out back Romsey! TJM airport west Quick spark auto Sunbury

Let us know how you go with the upgrades. Would love to know more about what you think of the fuel tank and how much more it holds. We are not far from Romsey and love that little corner of Victoria

Thats for these videos, i have a fortuner as well and interested in 33inch tyres, did you guys have to get offset rims or did the same oddset work? Many thanks

Off memory, we were recommended the same offset by our tyre guy. There was a little rubbing, but he knew we were going to put a 2" lift and that got rid of all the rubbing. There is a RU-vid channel @HappyGoTravel who has a video on how to fit 33" tyres to a Fortuner that you might find helpful. Thanks for the comment 😊 Hope we helped.

Hey sorry to be a pain but your measurements are wrong regarding the clearance from your new tires. Only 1 inch difference between the two and only half that will be gained height. Effectively you have only gained 12mm.

No pain, we probably should have made it a bit clearer. From ground to the centre of the Hub we gained an inch... new tyres are 785mm in diameter old ones currently measure at 760mm (just measured them). Saying that we didn't mention that the old ones are worn so that is where the extra 12mm came from. So yeah if we compared new for new it would have only been about a 12mm gain. Thanks 😀

What type of chainsaw do you carry? How do you pack it to control the stink of bar oil? Cheers

Have a Stihl 40cm (16") chainsaw. Small but gets the job done. We also have a carry case for it and use a separate plastic tub to put in extra fuel / oil's for when we need it. When we carry it on day trips we will put it in the back and its not really noticeable (maybe because the windows are down). On longer trips we would put the roof rack on or put it on the camper trailer roof.

$75 for 80 litres of diesel? even if you had a fortuner in 2015 when they came to australia it wasnt that cheap

Just looked up historic diesel prices, the last time it was under $1.00 in Melbourne was in 2004 ($ 0.98). We have been ripped off here for way to long considering it is a by product of petrol. Most times there is still some fuel left in the tank when we fill our tank from empty is probably closer to fill from 3/4

The rims are a 17" x 8" black steel rim. We think they look great! Thanks for the comment

@@bitburger7375 The rims are a positive offset (however we couldn't tell you by how much). Before the lift (2 inch) there was some rubbing on the guard, however after the lift, there has been no clearance issues with anything

Scrap the mirrors and fuel tank. Swap petrol chainsaw for battery.

Mirrors and fuel tank not high on the list (however we do tow, so mirrors would help) and fuel tank is more of a wish list item... Could not agree more with the chainsaw, and since that video we have already upgraded it for a battery one! Thanks for the feedback 😊
