In The Cost of Creativity, director and producer Jon Biddle takes you inside bipolar disorder thus stripping away all labels and giving you the truth. Coming out as a bipolar artist, a journey of courage and crisis unfolds using archival footage, interviews, and photographs. People living with this misunderstood
disorder work tirelessly to hide the condition for fear of losing their jobs, families, and lives. The Cost of Creativity brings those stigmatized individuals out of the shadows and onto the screen. One man’s struggle becomes the story of many as we an innocent youth devolve into the chaos of mania, and ultimately recover with the help of friends and family who never stopped believing in him.
Jon Biddle’s story may be unique, but it is not uncommon. Bipolar disorder affects 5.7 million adults, or nearly 3% of all Americans. They are our teachers and doctors, parents and siblings. But they
are afraid to share their struggles for fear of being labeled ‘crazy’. This is because bipolar disorder is often seen from the outside looking in. The Cost of Creativity offers viewers a firsthand experience of the
onset of symptoms and initial diagnosis. From the repercussions of ceasing medication to ultimate recovery we see the disorder from Jon’s eyes.
