Very good video, here's my input,want to save money in Canada,don't rent expensive apartment (better live in smaller cities),don't shop in expensive shops,there are cheaper ones look around for them,never and I mean never finanace a car,save money and buy a decent used care between 7-4k (I bought mine for 2grands and it worked amazing),it all depends on the year and millage research before you buy a car,a lot of cars are lemons. Try not to eat out every damn day,treat yourself once in a while, trust me it's cheaper to cook. In general don't finance anything,if you don't have the cash then you can't afford it. Don't take credit cards if you do ( to build your credit score) take the least amount possible and basically almost never use it without paying back asap ,and when u build your score burn that card. And lastly one of the biggest reason most immigrants are broke and working like crazy is buying a house they can't afford. Just don't buy house until you have more than enough savings for your future .Do these and you would be fine

I am a canadian ( naturalized) and i left in '83'. I have neither the desire to go back nor the money to do so. I can't imagine the cost, the cold and the boredom if you are in the poverty level there. Unfortunately, with the reciprocal visa antagonism for Canadians wanting Indian visas, it is getting much harder to stay here. I never want to leave india. Why would I?

(I am watching the video and same time drafting the points as well, please ignore the formatting)Just few comments here ... for groceries if you are ordering online you lose out 'price match' option, secondly, been a desi the quality of the produce is feel and touch so you compromise over that as well. You forgot to include car maintenance and winter tyres cost over the time though its not too much but one must consider that as well. for IPTV majority of Netflix shows are available ... though you have to compromise over picture quality. if the rental apartment is managed by property management company or entire building is rented then you have pay for parking (depending on building to building parking is included in rent). If you are renting it from someone personally (like if someone has investment property) then you have a parking spot available plus its in suite laundry available. for grooming services there are bunch of good outlets available like first hair cut choice, great clips etc you can find thr discount coupons online or in your mail (regular cut is 22+HST). There are desi saloon available which cost less than franchise saloons. As far as females saloon goes if your wife knows someone who is operating from home then she may end up paying less (i can't comment on this as much as i don't have expertise in that ;)). Govt gives you CCB (Canadian Childcare Benefit) depending on your household income. which changes every year depending on take returns. Secondly, for daycare if you are sending your kid to licensed home daycare provider which is fairly low ($40 to $50 a day) as compare to commercial daycare. For Gym expense majority of the employers do provide employee taxable benefit for employee healthcare but NOT EVERYONE so you can get rebate on that or there are some good gym membership packages available to big employers which is less than $50 a month. for winter shopping you can the good jackets from sale depending on what brand are you going for. you get tax rebates depending on how many ppl are working, plus towards the end of the year you get Ontario Trillium benefit if you are renting (though its not too much but it is something, but still depending on your household income). You can also save money if you are paying hydro by yourself by replacing all the bulbs to LED that will save money in long run. Secondly, you didn't mention anything about water bill (usually its part of your hydro and gas (for heating) or part of rent .
@Amiralyb
@Amiralyb 4 года назад
one more thing regarding gym if you are in peel region (mississauga) there are good community centres (Meadowvale Community Centre) the gym is also good so you can get the membership and avail benefit of living in Mississauga :)
@amyseaden9069
@amyseaden9069 4 года назад
Would disagree with a few things. Most employers don’t provide benefits like reduced fees gym fees. The benefits tend to be for higher paying jobs. Your fees for daycare are quite low in the GTA even for home daycare. You also have to look at safety of childcare and whether any learning is going on. You may be paying a lower price but if there are only one adult supervising one child is it safe. When selecting childcare price is only one factor you need to consider. Safety is the biggest issue. Trillium drug program has nothing to do with whether you are renting. It is for people who pay a large percentage of their income to purchase prescription medication. Believe it is over 4% of your income. Mostly it is for people who do not have access to employer extended health benefit plans and either very high medication costs or lower incomes who have chronic conditions that require somewhat expensive medications. If you are making a decent salary there is quite a large deductible you must pay first and many medications aren’t covered like in private plans.

Seems to be a myth in many countries that Canada is some sort of utopia. Think many returning home to their communities also do not want to be honest if they may be struggling which then encouragers other people to come to Canada when it may not be the best option.

MUDASSIR SHABEER sorry to burst your bubble. But truth be told after some initial struggle for a year or so Canada is indeed a great place to live and bring up yours kids. With cost comes quality. Everything except insurance is worth every penny you spend. Insurance here is a scam! Talk Work life balance health benefits clean air first world facilities first world passport the list is endless.
@amyseaden9069
@amyseaden9069 4 года назад
Mona Coelho I think Canada is great and have lived here all my life. Your story had a happy ending but not all do. Many think their money will go a long way because they are comparing it to their salary in their home country but don’t realize that expenses will equally as high. Many are under the impression that nobody struggles financially in Canada. It is rare to see the poverty seen in many countries but there are still homeless families who can’t afford enough food. People assume welfare will be there if ever needed but the welfare rates are very low. Also people expect no wait times when it comes to accessing healthcare. Most expect the same attention and access to care they received with their private medical coverage that they often had in their home countries. Many leave a very comfortable life back home. Lots of people working 7days a week or have multiple hours to commute everyday so work life balance isn’t guaranteed in Canada either. If you have realistic expectations and have done your research you will love Canada.

Healthcare varies by province. All depends on what you consider an emergency. In many countries you go to the emergency department for everything even a cold. You are expected to go to your family doctor or after hours clinic for minor things where you won’t need scanning, IVs, etc. You will receive a bill for taking an ambulance in all provinces I think. The amount of the bill varies a lot. It should not stop you from calling an ambulance but if you don’t actually need the services of a paramedic and can drive to the hospital I would suggest doing so. Having extended healthcare benefits through your employer is something you should be looking for when looking for jobs especially with a family. Things like dental care can be very expensive especially for a family. Things like getting a private or semi-private room in hospital would also be covered by extended benefit plans. Same as things like wheelchairs, crutches, etc. Most of acute care in the hospital is usually covered but when you leave you may incur costs. Canada has around 70% health coverage not 100%.

1.For $50K Annual Salary, it will be close to $3200 as net pay after taxes minus contribution to company health insurance plan and some savings into RRSP/TFSA/Pension Plans . 2. For dine in costs $70 to $100 in good restaurants. in $40, one can have Dominos, Pizza Pizza or similar. 3. Hair Cuts are easily available from $10 to $20

I know this is an older video but the advice still applies, produce is crazy expensive at Walmart and big chain stores. You should buy your fruit and veg at your local fruit and veg shop. These are small independent stores in my city of Montreal who sell you produce, bulk items like nuts at a much better price than stores like Walmart. Some items are cheaper at Walmart and their store brand Great Value has many good items but in many staple items, they are also more expensive. Never do your groceries at jsut one store, look at weekly flyers and buy non perishables when they are on sale. Many items are on a three week sale cycle. For instance, as of writing this, a 10kg bag of name brand flour is $15.00, but I always buy them on sale for $8.99. If you shop wisely and budget, you can save a fortune on groceries. And believe it or not, the cheapest place to buy eggs here is at the pharmacy, on the weekend. If you can afford it, buy a small freezer at Walmart and when meat is on sale like chicken, stock up the freezer. You can eat well for less. It just takes being diligent and planning. Thats a big part of your monthly expense taken care of right there. Also, great video but a lot of the info in the video is only applicable to the city they live in, its different all across Canada. I live in Quebec and dont relate to a lot of what they've said. In Montreal, public transit system is great, you can live without a car, which I do. If you ever really need a car for a day, you can rent or call an Uber or taxi. Most of the time, you really dont need a car here if you live in the city.

I live in New Brunswick. My reliable used SUV cost $3000 + $800 for winter tyres. So, there are inexpensive vehicle options out there. Also, for those moving to rural provinces, budgeting for a car is important, because in many places like the one I live in, it is a necessity. E.g. my husband and I used to travel 100kms/day for work (in our case, no bus options were available; we don't have underground metros like you do either; our trains are generally for long distance travel vs. commute). We do not have Uber here. Unlike your parking situation, we seldom have underground parking. So, we Maritimers, are used to clearing snow off of our cars on a daily basis. Our internet at its lowest tends to cost more in the $100 ballpark. Our haircuts generally cost around $30 for men, $60-70 for women.

Still Canada has many many homeless people that live in tents on snowdrifts in the winter months. I’m not kidding, I’m serious. Some live year round in trailers in people’s driveway and work enough to pay the homeowner for electricity to the trailer so they don’t freeze. Oh well at least an ambulance can pick them up (and charge them to take to hospital) and get them thawed out at the hospital or maybe room at a shelter . Then they just take them back to the tent or trailer and it happens all over again. Many refuse to pay the $50 for an ambulance in Ontario. You can’t get blood out of a stone!

Everyone's situation and lifestyle is different. Mine is this: A single person on minimum wage as well in Alberta. So about $2100/month. Im currently renting a room, with plans on getting my own place. Current rent: $565 My own place: Roughly about $1000 Food plus hygiene and cleaning: $500 I don't drive, so bus pass would be $110 Phone: $74 Gym: $60 So renting a room: about $1310 with spending money. So more like $1610. Having my own place: About $1710. If I have to pay for Internet and or utilities, that would be about another $220. If I have to pay for laundry $60. Once again, I don't drive, but if i did, yes that would be an extra $300 to $500. So depending on your situation, if you don't drive, or want to live the simple live. You could get away with minimum wage. But if you drive, and have other expenses beyond the basics. It will be a tough go, and I would recommend looking at trying to make $2600/month.

That is true. I’m in Alberta outside of Edmonton. Most bigger houses are between $1,400 to $2,000 a month for rent. Apartments or rooms aren’t too bad in my city. One guy even offered it for $700 a month for a smaller house which shocked people locally here.

CHUCK Yes. Taxes tend to be higher and salaries tend to be lower but Quebec can be a great option especially if you speak French. Many new immigrants only consider larger cities with a large amount of people from their home country. Best to consider moving all over the country.
