As someone who lives in Melbourne and lived in the inner city I can confirm that's a kite dream to be paying that amount. For utilities in AUD you have your basic service charges for gas and electricity so my tiny apartment cost for gas and electricity was $280 per month. My internet is $120 per month and my phone is $70. Depending on your landlord and the property meters water can be included but if not put another $120 per month on top.
@@44fall4I think the statement the public transport isn't very good isn't correct. A lot of people complain about it but for $7AU a day you get unlimited travel on trains, trams, light rail and maybe buses. The trams around the city centre are free and there is a subway which we call the city loop. You can travel to some regional areas on the same ticket. The down side is it stops around 1am and Melbourne is quite spread out so some areas aren't covered too well. But for someone living in an inner city apartment I would imagine it would be excellent
Sydney and Melbourne are our 2 biggest cities. Both feature in the top ten most expensive cities to live in in the world 🌎 plus 20$ will buy you a souvlaki and coke.
She said “the transport system isn’t the best over there”. What is she talking about?!?!?!?! She’s never been to Melbourne - she’s talking through her hat. Find me an American city with a better transport system. I dare you! Look elsewhere for reliable advice. This one’s a dud.
Sorry I know this would be too much but pls do these: 1. Halifax Canada 2. Adelaide Australia 3. Perth Australia 4. Sunshine coast Australia 5. St John's New Brunswick
Adelaide and Perth are way cheaper than Sunshine Coast. Perth is very isolated though and doesn’t have as many good jobs in industries other than mining. Adelaide I don’t know as much about, it has cheaper house prices but it doesn’t have as many good jobs, there’s also just not much to do there. Sunshine Coast is nice but has gotten very touristy, and some areas have gotten completely unaffordable
Transport is actually great in Melbourne. Way more than most American cities can dream of but not as good as Japan or Europe. But you're on point with the cost of living crisis here. It's what should really scare people away from Australia. Spiders and snakes are the least of their worries here.
@imacat8476 yep, stop voting Labor or liberal, these grubs are hogging the houses while allowing foreigners to both flood here AND buy houses by outbidding locals
Australia have minmum wage $24 part time full time no one work less then $30 that is casual pay saturday 1.5× pay sunday double pay. Any full time minimum wage earner earn somewhere between $75000 to 85000 depend if you work weekend or not. meanwhile in america $40,000 same pay 7days aweek not paid holidays whereas in australia 5week paid holidays 2week sick paid leave all figures in Aud.
Lol minimum wage workers don't get $80,000 per year. If you actually do the calculation it's $45,800. That's the minimum a full time worker can receive.
People also forget how much of an overvalued real estate country it is. Out of 26 million people, per year, the federal government receive more than 6billion in tax revenue from poker machines across pubs and clubs in nsw and Victoria.
This is pretty nonsense. $150USD per week for groceries for a single person? I pay $100AUD per week and that includes food for me, my partner and our 40kg dog. Where is she getting this from?
At the moment my empty property 50 k from Melbourne CBD spent 14 $ drinking and 3 $ recycled water and my bill is 368 $. I thought it's a mistake so I've called customer service. She goes:Water supply charge, maintenance, sewage, parks bla,bla ,bla + GST . It was quick hang up before she discover I'm undercharged.
no you need 1500 to 2000 to live ok. i make 1300 a week and its not enuf rent is like 400 500 a week any less than a 1000 a week and you will go hungry lol
I think you need to earn $500k a year to live comfortably in Melbourne 🤣 otherwise the city basically drains your money unless your sharehousing it like myself🤣
That is a complete lie. You forgot that the one bedroom is a shared apartment. Australia is actually more expensive than America. Wages are also lower in Australia for professions than America. Fuel is more expensive in Australia. Food is more expensive in Australia. Alcohol is more expensive in Australia. Cigarettes are more expensive in Australia. “A shit box Toyota Hilux utility - 2013 is the conversion rate of what you pay for a 2017 - 2018 dodge ram in America.
