@@kathyhirsch379 In Portugal you can find less expensive living. You give up convenience. You will live in smaller towns. Further out from major hubs. Further from larger hospitals. The pace would be slower, but if you can cope with the country living, you can live lots cheaper.

This is the city I have been researching. It looks like a place I would feel blessed to call home. How long have you lived there and what are your thoughts. Wherever I immigrate I do want to become part of the community 😊

Not sure singles congregate in any particular area...they are everywhere! If you are vegetarian be prepared to never eat out, especially in the North! 😂

I live near Oliveira! We bought our quinta in 2008 for €25000. Our home is an off grid, renovated donkey stable, own wood, own water, solar electric. 3 gas bottles a year. Originally from UK , I've been here since 2015 full time.

Videos can give you a little bit of insight but you really need to experience Portugal for yourself. From your email I'm glad to learn that you plan to do just that! 👍🏽

Suggest you rent first and live in several areas to get a feel of the area before you buy.

Depends what sort of break you want and where. It's a vast and varied country :)

If you plan your trip for the winter months, from end November to May, all the accommodation prices will be lower, with less crowds. Or if you can get a Youth Hosteling Card where you are (very cheap and for everyone) you can then use it to stay in any of the many youth hostels in Portugal at really LOW PRICES. They have single rooms with private bathrooms, as well as shared rooms and kitchens. And you can easily move from one area to another, as there are hostels all over Portugal, good facilities, clean and modern, almost empty during school terms. Look up: Pousadas de Juventude Portugal, them change the language to English on top of page and have a look how good they are. All you need is a International Youth Hostel card from your country of residence, you cannot get it in Portugal if you are not resident here. Enjoy!

Thanks for subscribing to the channel. Nice to have you here 😊. Of my three and a half years in Portugal most of it has been in Central. I haven't found it to be cheaper - but maybe you are referring to buying. Also I could not find a single place available to rent in the areas I was looking!

The house prices are rising due to foreign interest. And Central Portugal is not easy to get around if you are dependent on public transport.

​@@1Waarheidgood job then my Portuguese farm cost €25000 and I paid for it with the sale of my UK narrowboat. WIth no rent/mortgage, Portugal is way cheaper than the UK and much safer and sunnier. I love living here, would never go back to the UK

The other two I mentioned were brand new to the country. You build your networks, they did previous scouting visits and reached out in the flesh and online. I paid for a service to help me find my feet when I first arrived. Best euros I ever spent!

Talk to anybody who will listen. I think a s month rental would be hard that´s more of a short term let you could ask an Airbnb owner. I don´t have any time commitment I can leave whenever I want.

Are you kidding?! The UK is an absolute rip off for everything. My electric has tripled from £44 per month to £130. Council tax £200 pcm.....just to have bins collected! Diesel £1.60 a litre & so far, 7 months of rain and grey skies. I'd rather live in Portugal!

I don't live in a rural place. Like any home I get post and mail order stuff here just fine. You don't need a Portuguese address to open a bank account or get a NIFF.

@@Solo50plus Really? I have applied for a NIFF through an agency and that has been processed. Surely you need an address if you wanted a resident bank account? I realise that you live in a town - I was just wondering for myself because I plan to buy in a rural-ish place.

@@phoenixrises5169 Yes, you do need a portuguese address to apply for a NIF number, and after getting it you can apply for a bank account, and you DO need to have an address in Portugal for both. Any address will do, even a friend's address but you must be able to use it for at least 6 months to 1 year, till you have a permanent address. The NIF number is a tax number that will be required for EVERTHING else. The tax office (Finanças) and banks will send all their letters, starting with your new NIF number to your address, and it must be kept up to date if you move. All houses and flats that are legally registered as habitations, will get their mail delivered directly to the door, anywhere in Portugal, free of charge. But... When people buy an off-grid that is not registered for habitation, like a barn, or a field, with a campervan or tent, they don't get the mail delivered and it cannot be used as an "address" as it is not registered for habitation. All post offices can provide you with a mail box rental or at least a facility to receive and hold your post at that post office till you can collect it but that's expensive and not accepted by banks or the tax office as an address. Be aware of so called "agencies" many are foreign scammers just after your ID documents. You should ALWAYS get a professional, like a portuguese solicitor or accountant to deal with your private info & ID docs as they are registered and if something went wrong, you could appeal. They'll let you use their professional address till you have a permanent one. Also better to develop a relationship with professionals who can help & advise you with everything now and in future.
