$64,000 for that?!? People in my town are paying $200,000 - $300,000 for something similar but was built 50 years ago! Guess I'm going to have to build my own place!

Housing prices are ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS & I DO NOT want to be in debt for the next 30+ yrs of my life!👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽 Best of Luck you guys!!

We just bought 29 acres 5 minutes outside of Andalusia AL and this looks exactly like what we want to do for our "compound". Only difference, we are doing a smaller living area in a little over half of the building and a large workshop in the remaining area. This video is so very helpful in us putting together our game plan. And we will definitely be getting a quote from the pole barn company. Thank you so much for sharing!

We built a metal building in western Oklahoma. It’s a 30x40 living with a 10x30 front porch, 15x30 covered breezeway that connects the house to a 24x30 garage and the only thing we didn’t do was the slab, septic, and electric and plumbing stub out. We’ve got stainless steal appliances and it’s super nice all for 80K. The concrete was pretty expensive to get it all the way out there probably twice what it would normally cost.

My friend has a pool barn and I never even thought of making a home from one. Which is crazy bc I thought of sheds & barns, but not a pool barn. So ty for this video. Plus it’s nice to see in the comments you can do it even cheaper. My husband is really handy & his father had built houses so I’m sure a lot could be done by them.

I don’t know much about posts, but I do now the I have to constantly replace the fence posts at my grandpa’s house. They rot at grand level - where the dirt meets the air. Unsure why, but definitely recommend investigating for a better solution.

@@billybob1374 The wood should be in contact with a metal base then the metal base can be in contact with the concrete. The concrete should be poured over gravel rock. This is what I found out doing research to prevent rotting of poles and cracking or shifting of the concrete.

I have thought about doing the same thing, I would change a few things on it, One would be installing about 5 feet of concrete around the building, Other wise you end up with grass, weeds and other debris near the building. Two would be to insulate the concrete. The tankless water heater is awesome, I do not have a place to install one in my house, Yet we had one for our camper and have used them outside.. They are great. The laundry hooks up are very nice, Most people forget about that and opt for the cheap way, As yours is the built in ones that you can get with the PEX type fittings.

I guess location makes the difference in what something cost. I few years ago I was putting my feelers out there in what a 30x52 pole building was gonna cost me. If my memory is correct think it was around 50K(49,XXX$) 30X52 with 3 big garage doors, 2 on the front, 1 in the back middle, 6” of concrete to support a lift, 1 man door entrance, 2 windows with grids, over hang at all eves, wainscoting and snow keep... on a side note that a beautiful pole building home and I think that price is very reasonable. I live in north eastern PA.

I think that for your first build you've done a great job. And you you kept your cost down. As a contractor myself that's exactly what I try to do is keep cost as low as possible without skimping on the heat and air as well as Appliances and the trim out. Because that's one thing I tell all my customers is that you don't want to get almost finished and then put a bunch of cheap looking trim and Appliances at the end of the job. Just a little tip though if I would've done the floors I would've put at least 3 coats on that way in a years time you wouldn't notice the high traffic areas of the floors. I usually do 5 coats but a minimum of 3. It just looks alot better and shines a bit more but like I said you won't notice the high traffic areas near as soon as you will having only put 1 coat on. But I think you done a great job with it. Hell I've seen some contractors not do a good as job as you have. Enjoy your new house and God Bless.

Love, love, love your beautiful home!! The only thing I would add is some shutters around your windows just to polish off the exterior look! Thank you so very much for sharing your experience with us and for the in-depth explanation of how to come up with an estimate for our own future projects. From watching your videos, I believe you have given many people the inspiration to take the leap towards their own dreams of home ownership ❤️

In my area if you started out "intending" to make this building for your farm animals (horses, cows, etc. ) you could build it without all the interference. After you get the shell built you convert it into a house. As far as septic it is not a job to try and do yourself unless you own an excavating business. Great video nice work and doesn't it feel good living in the house that you built. Thanks for sharing. It's exactly what I need for my next business and when I build it of course it will be a stand alone garage and avoid to many codes and inspectors.

You can do your own septic. I live in Northern California and was quoted $40k for a six bedroom engineered system as is required in my county. With a 9' backhoe mounted on a kubota, I did all of the work in pieces over the course of six months for a cost of $6,000 total including 2000 gallon tank, orenco pump, control boxes, etc.

I just happened upon your video and was intrigued about the pole barn being used as a home There are tons of other videos on them but yours is the first I've seen. I'm very impressed! What a beautiful he that you both built. The finished look is beautiful. Sorta a mix of urban and country which are opposites but in this vase it works very well. May I ask what state your in with the R23 insulation? Will you be putting up any other structures? God bless you and your family and wishing you a beautiful life together in your home!

What a great job you guys did on your home. You had good ideas and the finished product turned out very nice especially since you’ve never attempted something like this. 👍

Y'all are my heroes. Wow. Me and my daughter about to embark on our home build, and we are deciding which way to go. Quonset Hut or Pole Barn. Thank you for being so good at detail.

Nice Job! I love all the concrete floors that you kept natural. I’m guessing your down south by the red clay(maybe I missed it) Only change I would make is lowering ceilings to the 10-12ft sidewall for better heating/cooling efficiency. I’m up in Michigan where temps can run -15 in winter to 80’s in summer. My only question is did you thermal heat you concrete? It has become popular up in the cold north. Well doneI’m jealous!

How do you like the sound/silence of the building now that you're living with the tin ceiling and a three year old in it? Nice build. Your relatively low costs are a surprise to me. I had built a 24x32 foot pool barn a year ago. It cost just under $26 a sq ft, and that was about half the normal rate around here. Good shopping on yours.

This is what I'm thinking about doing, but I want to design my own kit, buy from a supply store and put it together myself. I've built houses, I've built pole barns, even one HUGE pole barn for horses. I have friends who can do electric and plumbing(whatever I dont do myself). Here in WV, theres 20-40 acre lots all over for 60-80 grand. Really considering this.

Best real video I have seen. All the rest just want to tell you everything cost $70 a square foot. And all they do is walk around and talk about how it's decorated.

Thank you so much for the post! We just bought a house 3 months ago and it’s 16 years old. Been looking into doing a project like this instead for a forever home! Truly amazing. This video is giving me the motivation to possibly sell our house, maybe live with family while we build something like this. I’m completely sold on this idea.
