Hi! My name is Alice and I love books! I read just about everything from classics to contemporary fiction, adventures to mysteries, fantasy to all kinds of non-fiction - and I love reviewing and recommending books, and just generally having a chat about literature. I also adore baking, hot chocolate, crafts and basically everything cosy, soft and peaceful. I currently live in Oslo, Norway.

I'm in my 50s but there's always that time in mid-winter Canada when there's room for something light-hearted and cozy. Sometimes you need to satisfy the inner child to get through those long, dark days. There are some great recommendations here. Thanks!

I have also bought the Pumpkin Spice Cafe ( for the name and for the cover!). I’m not usually a big romance fan but I just had to get my hands on that one. I also have Nordic Tales but was thinking about reading it during the winter season. If I can finally finish The Little Friend……I’m sad because I really wanted to love that book! Oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️…

I love the Wildwood trilogy!!!! The author is also the lead singer of the Decemberists and the illustrator is his wife. The story is set in Forest Park in Portland, Oregon, but in an world where there are magical elements. I've been to most of the places that are used as settings in the book. I also own the Nordic Tales book and I just stuck it on my shelf and forgot to read it. Good reminder. I read and enjoyed The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, checked it out of the library, and because I don't own the book, I keep forgetting to continue in that series. Two newer cozy recs - I really enjoyed Can't Spell Treason without Tea and The Spellshop. An autumnal set that's cozy but also bit creepy is The Crow Folk by Mark Stay.

I had a really good time reading How to Solve Your Own Murder...now half way through The Strings of Murder and I love it! My cosy read for this evening ☕️ 🕯️ 🍂 Next book on my TBR....The book of the gravedigger by Oliver Pötzsch. It is about a serial killer in Vienna in 1893. Don’t know it there’s an English version

Estherjane here. I started Pumpkin Spice but I found it more spicy, not cooking, than I prefer. Was not for me so I ended up doing a DNF. 🥴

No one every talks about this book and I adored it. Not even my usual genre (western setting), but I read it for a book club choice and was so glad to have found it.

Lol at the end of Before the coffee gets cold you will know the rules. You'll have read them so many times you'll see them with your eyes closed 😅 Maybe it's better to know that the author is a playwriter and he wrote this as he would've written a play I think. I found it dry and extremely boring. How to solve your own murder on the other hand was a nice surprise! Yes, it has something of Knives out, and I don't see the ressemblance with The thursday murder club, except it's pretty cozy if you except the murder of course 😅 I hope you enjoy it!

"The Pumpkin Spice Cafe" is definitely cozy fall vibes, and the simplest of romance plots. Not meant to "wow" you, but definitely for the easy cozy reading. One of my favorite cozy reads is "Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers." It's so sweet and made me tear a little bit. Also the Eva Evergreen duology; it gives off major Kiki's Delivery Service vibes in book 1.

I'm eating supper with you Alice. Nothing very good, just wanted something fast so I could listen, and write down. I DNF'd " Before The Coffee Gets Cold. I know it is/was popular. It just seemed wierd to me, the writing. I finally have a week-end to look forward to!. A dear, dear friend (I consider her a daughter) and I are going book shopping and lunch! I'm SO EXCITED! She really is the only one I can discuss bks. with😑. She is a h.s. teacher. We don't see each other very often because she has a very busy family life as well as teaching; and she lives almost 1 hr. away(after she married😑 I hope to buy: The Pumpkin Spice, Shady Hollow, Spoonful of Murder, The Weed That Strings, and How To Solve Your Own Murder if enough money. The rest I will take out from the library. I seem to read cozy mysteries only in Autumn also! When I was in my 50's I read The Indigo Tea Shop Mysteries by Laura Child's ; one after the other! Now I have grown out of them or she seems to write the same old, same old. Plus my reading tastes have changed. You give GREAT recommendations😊 Thanks Alice!
