The difference between Bircher muesli and overnight oats is the ratio of fruit and oats, Bircher muesli has more fruit to oat ratio, it was originally made with a grated apple and often has added nuts, seeds and raisins. Overnight oats has more oats and chia seeds than fruit. Bircher muesli is originally from Switzerland. 💗
@MadeleineOlivia

Thank you!
@numivis7807
@numivis7807 Год назад
I thought the difference is that bircher is made with yoghurt while oats are cooked with water or milk?
@beatrizcardoso5800
@beatrizcardoso5800 Год назад
@@numivis7807 I think both contain yogurt and milk if it is to put in the fridge overnight (when looking for a thick consistency) overnight oats don’t necessarily need to have yogurt because they already have the chia seeds that absorb the liquid so that the consistency isn’t liquid. But you can honestly make them the way you want because of how versatile and delicious they are 😊

Yes, I have been making the apple version for years and it’s the only way I can eat oats because it’s so much less paste-like.

Bircher Muesli is Swiss actually! A Swiss doctor invented it and it typically contains grated apples,whereas overnight oats doesn't. Greetings from Switzerland :D

Oh Maddie, you’ve inspired me to get things going for my garden this year! 😊 Could we ask Alex if he would let the funny, quirky text inserts stay on the screen for just a few seconds longer? Just a tad…I can’t read some of them so fast! 😅😂

Loving the gardening content! I have some bits of advice for your seeds 😊 once the seeds have germinated I would take the plastic lid off, as this will contribute to them getting leggy. They are also leaning a bit because they are reaching for the light so I would turn them around every day to help keep them a bit straighter. Also, if you want to grow dahlias I would recommend buying them as tubers and not seeds, they are a quite a tricky thing to grow from seed and probably won’t flower until next year. If you grow them from the tubers you will be able to enjoy the flowers this year. Same for the alliums, you may want to grow these from bulb instead of seed. I hope this helps ☺️ Happy growing 🌿 there really is nothing better!
@crnnstck

Hey there, great advice, thank you 👍🏼 just one question: I have three rows of different vegs, two have germinated, one hasn’t. Do I take the lid of or leave it on?
@thefarmerswifecanada
@thefarmerswifecanada Год назад
For your plant starts, they are reaching for the light. It would be helpful to have an overhead grow light, brought close to the plants. Or a south facing window is best. Your beds are looking great!

I'm from Germany and I think Birch(er) Müsli is from Switzerland. We always used to grate an apple in the yogurt & oatmix and it also had mashed bananas and sometimes even oranges in it! It's delicious. You should definitely try the "traditional" version and see if you like it! I always have it without raisins, but you could put them in, too ! Best wishes from Scotland

I really like the little notes Alex ist adding while editing. They make me smile. Regarding hair: I fully understand that Alex is preferring short - really suits him well! When I am making Bircher Müsli I only use milk and a grated apple as liquid. It is pretty thick and "heavy" then. Adding yoghurt might make it creamy and lighter. Regards from Germany Stephanie

I'm allergic to soy now, but when I was a kid my mom used to coat tofu with nutritional yeast and spike seasoning (basically a mixed herb spice if you don't have it there) and fry it in a pan with non-stick spray till it got crispy on the outside. So simple and so delicious.

Gardens are always a mess at this time of year. Just skim off the grass like turf and put it upside down on the compost heap. Add some new soil improver and compost /topsoil on top to get the worms going. Then next autumn cover the beds over winter to keep the weeds at bay. It’s disheartening when it’s wet and cold but it will soon cheer up! Xxx keep going

I recently heard the tip to not salt things (plants) before putting them in the oven or roasting them because the salt draws out the moisture of the veggie so if you salt it later (after the oven) it gets crosser in the oven. If that's the right word, not my first language.

Unless you are wanting to do massive canning freezing and dehydration-I would plant the last four beds in flowers for a cut garden. Clematis vines would be beautiful in the last two beds. If you are not ready to decide this year.-cover in cardboard like you did on the others to keep weeds from growing. Good luck.

The reason the seedlings are stretched is probably to do with light. It might also be to do with airflow. Once most of your seedlings are up, take off the dome and run a fan on a low setting in the room. The airflow will help thicken the stems a bit. Or alternately you could gently run your hands over them several times a day. Plants need resistance to develop strength. I would also give a very dilute water soluble fertilizer once they start getting their first sets of true leaves.

"Bircher Müesli" is actually from Switzerland, if I'm not mistaken. My mum used to put berry yoghurt in a large bowl, then she added oats, finely chopped hazelnuts, and a variety of bite sized fruit (bananas, apples, oranges, berries, kiwis, nectarines etc. Whatever she had on hand 🍇🍊🍌🍎🍓🌰🍐🍒 Sometimes we decorated the large bowl with sweet cream befor putting it on the table 🤗

With your garden - it is a lot of beds to maintain. I wondered if you’d looked into low maintenance/perennial plants to take some of the pressure off? For example, asparagus (depending on whether you buy seeds/crowns) can take 3yrs to crop but goes forever. rhubarb and purple sprouting broccoli also take time to produce (a year I think) but in doing so will last a while. You may need to net them to protect from bugs but it might be a good option to help with busy lives? I know in the veg in one bed book there’s a low maintenance garden bed idea that may be helpful for you.

I live in a mountain town, and I was recently talking to an avid Gardner who moved here a few years ago. She told me that after trying multiple times, she's finally resigned to the fact that you can't plant a garden here until June. That's always when I plant, just because I'm kind of lazy. Didn't know I was accidentally on to something. I am jealous of your long growing season though

Your seed trays look great. You do need a grow light for them though, they are getting leggy reaching for the light. No need to put them in bigger pots at the moment, just more light. And a fan in them to make them strong. You're going great. Keep going and you will have a lovely productive garden before you know it.

We started to grow fruit and veg in 2020 as home learning for the kids and we're now hooked! It's a lot of trial and error though. I've recently found a good RU-vid channel called Emma's allotment diaries, she's great for lots of tips and inspiration.

If you want to learn a LOT about planting and maintaining your plants, I highly suggest you follow Garden Answer on RU-vid. She is in the U.S. in a zone 6 but always gives corresponding advice. She is planting all of her seeds these past few weeks and the tips are invaluable. Such as, once your seedlings get a bit leggy, put a mild fan on them for a few hours a day to strengthen them. You can take the cover off once they sprout.
