Congratulations to those who never doubted and had the courage and foresight to resurrect the Thames & Severn Canal .......... Congratulations to those weekend navvies of the 70s, 80's and 90's who gave up their free time to help open a stretch of recovered canal, never knowing if their 300 yard or 1 mile stretch of isolated water would ever be linked ...... Congratulations to those who worked endlessly in the councils and the heritage funding proposals ........... Congratulations to those Land Owners who have embraced the public potential and relaxed their own fears of land invasion ......... And finally congratulations to all those who have continued to raise funds rain or shine for nearly 45 years from 10p to £££s, hoping that their tiny donations might be recognised by greater and overwhelming funding ...... It is these brave hearts that are making the rebirth of one of the longest and prettiest canals ever built .......... The Thames and Severn, The Stroudwater and the Cotswold Canals Trust that are bringing this marvelous and inspiring project to its logic end .......... The REUNION OF THE THAMES & SEVERN RIVERS ...... Bless you all ............
I had not heard that much of Elgar's symphony No.1. op. 55 before. It has grandeur, pathos, defiance and hope, all rolled into one. A suitable accompaniment. Well done.
That section which ran parallel to the river probably made life easier than hauling against a river current. I incorrectly labelled the aqueduct, and It should have read "Lockham" aqueduct.
