My version of "Cottagecore": Shabby Chic, rust, distressed, a little primitive, pastel, farmhouse, lace, garden. I mix Shabby Chic, Farmhouse, and Primitive all in one decor. I have been decorating like this for years because I believe you can mix all styles as long as you have a common color theme.
So glad to hear this. I've never ever followed trends, even when I was at school. I love antiques, and I will use them. Doing up an 1858 cottage with Victorian/French Gothic styling, and if you see what I look like everyone automatically assume it's all hippie, boho😁
Farmhouse can be so sterile. Even bland if taken to the extreme. Hopefully Cottagecore is bringing back warmth and color. My personal favorite is classic French country.
I think the part of "farmhouse" that was sterile was what they call " modern farmhouse". That all black and white color scheme. That never was true farmhouse style. I mean, think about what a true farmhouse would be like. I know my grandma lived in one and it sure was nothing like that. Ive never named my style. I think cottage core, shabby chic, all that is just additions to farmhouse style. I can live with black and white, or neutrals, as long as those are base colors. Color needs to be brought into the mix with smalls and in decorative ways. But thats my opinion. People really need to just make their homes what they themselves love and feel comfort from. Even if its all black, white, or sterile. After all, thats what a home is about. Warmth, comfort, and the love of those who reside in it. But this video is one that im glad was made. Because just like fashion trends, you dont need to follow all of them and some things are classic.

Ah the lovely pink cabbage rose. My favorite! We are a working family farm in New Hampshire. I identify Cottage Core with my grandmother's era. Husband and I recently built a farm cottage. It is a blank slate! I am beginning to fill it with rural New England 1935 decore. So far one wall of my kitchen has a 1930 Home Comfort kitchen wood stove, a 1927 Hoosier baking cabinet, a 1900s treadle sewing machine, a metal top farm table and hopefully an oak ice box some day. The vintage pieces are restored and functioning. I look forward to following your channel to glean decorating ideas that compliment the era and style I have chosen to live. My goal is to create a peaceful, old fashioned, inviting cottage retreat. One that will be blessing during our winter months ❄❄⛄⛄❄❄ and power outages!
You’re truly one of the cutest & such talent!! My oldest daughter is 40, all my children & grandchildren I’ve always said, while we found goodies of bargains, and collecting, you do you, you make your home your home! Regardless!! They think I’m clutter bug!! Many families give me actually memories, some 200 years old!! So if my family doesn’t want it, I’ll certainly sell it to, give it to others that appreciate it all!!
I inherited a small country,mountain cottage a couple years ago and have been slowly decorating with thrift store finds to make it my own. I was up there a couple weeks ago and realized all the finds that I like is cottage core. I don't think I have ever been ahead of or at the beginning of a trend. But we'll it is a lot of floral, embroidered curtains, a couple Kincaide cottage prints, heavy into greens,blues and pinks with some reds. I plan to still paint the furniture in a bedroom and use some transfers. Loving this look and a return to color.
Coming ASAP! I have a couple of different ones, and I love the critter best because if the mason jar aspect. Makes my life so much easier. I don't have time to wash out hoppers with a baby on my hip. 😉
I LOVE this! What a gorgeous piece of decor you created from that cabinet door! And I never would have thought to use transfers over decoupage. I’ll have to try that! (I’m also loving the IOD transfers & moulds, as well as the JRV stencils that I’ve seen in other videos.) So glad I found your channel!

This came out lovely ! I never thought of Transfers WITH Decoupage Paper ...love it! And love what you ladies are doing with cupboards doors...genius ! Nice mix of colors too! I have to get “brave “ and mix my DIY paint and try Milk Paint.... every time Bri uses that GREEN MILK PAINT.. my heart skips a beat...❤️❤️❤️ So nice to meet you! I’m so happy about this as I live in a 1924 small Tudor cottage. I’ve been having a hard time finding decor - hoping to find more English style items. ( I live in a very populated area with limited thrift stores).

I'm always amused when I hear people say cottagecore is a "new trend" in decorating. It isn't. The idea of cottagecore began in the early to mid 2010's. NOT as a style of home decor, but more as a lifestyle. Getting back to nature and a simpler way of life. While it DID include home decor, it was much more. A way to dress, live, feel AND decorate your home. The name "cottagecore" was first seen a lot on Tumbler in 2018. Many of us were living, dressing and decorating that way for years and years before it was given a name. Too bad it is now "trending" because I absolutely despise that word and too many people will jump on it and distort it and then dump it when the next thing to "trend" comes along.
Great question, Lisa! It Depends. If I’m using a dedicated wax brush, I rarely clean them. If I’m using my French tip or another brush that I also use for paint, for sure!
Whatever your style is should be “created” mostly by you. There are some utubers that decorate their ENTIRE home from Hobby Lobby and Homegoods and it’s too “purchased looking. Don’t get me wrong, these stores have great stuff and the decorators are super talented, but it doesn’t show any individuality. Those items make great staging.
