On this weeks “Coug’s Corner” Podcast, Jason “Puck” Puckett is once again joined by WSU head coach Jake Dickert. It’s Apple Cup week and Puck and Jake chat about the importance of the game and why Cougar fans need to be engaged and involved in this game and for the season. Coach Dickert points out that he was disappointed in the attendance for Texas Tech and hopes it gets better because the Cougs needs the fans to be involved.
They touch on the play of John Mateer and the physicality that he plays with and why he’s the X factor for Saturday.

Great stuff Puck. We are very fortunate to have Coach Dickert. We need to do a better job as fans and alumni in supporting them and our university. Very much looking forward to attending the Apple Cup

Cougs have a fan problem - if you live in Pullman, it is easy to see. The school is attracting more and more international students and they don’t go to games! We have way too many students heading to the engineering lab on football Saturdays! In addition, the Gen Z kids seem to not get real excited about this stuff ( the frat/sorority kids seem to be putting out a decent effort ) Coug sporting events are dominated by older Coug fans these days. * Give back to WSU! I had a friend who told me that his whole family pretty much graduated from WSU and most have had success ( he himself is a Boeing executive ) I asked him if any of them are donating, going to games…etc. Nope. Nobody goes to games or donates. Goodness, put a little effort into supporting this place that you claim you are proud of and always talk about proudly “ I am a big Coug fan “ - ARE YOU REALLY? Go Cougs!

I agree. I'm not sure on the students but there definitely is less participation. Eastern Washington sports fans need to support the Cougs. There are too many EWA fans that choose to root for UW that need to be called out ( like Jordan from Moses Lake on the other podcast). They might as just well root for Ohio State or U$C. Or the Chiefs over the Seahawks. They are turning their back on their local community. Go Cougs!!!

@@IknowthatBrent - I wonder if inflation has affected it. Doing a game in Pullman is not as affordable as it used to be. Hopefully economy loosens up and more travel from Spokane / Moses Lake / Tri Cities…etc. Go Cougs!

I live 30 miles from Pullman. I promise I will buy season tickets next year if you have a better schedule. I can't support a team that schedules Portland State. If you want a practice game why don't you schedule Alabama or Georgia? The first step of support is scheduling competitive games. Why can't you get that message through to your athletic director? As soon as I see your schedule that's when I call my friend at the WSU athletic department and schedule my season tickets. I'm not supportive of a pis hole schedule. I don't much give a shit about Washington. I want the pac-12 to have 8 teams next year. Competitive teams. If the Cougars loose so what? You learn from your losses. This coach is smart. I implore University officials to get a better schedule. Else lose your footing. I think I'm seeing something come out in Jake I haven't seen before. A low lying anger. He wasn't happy in his news conference this morning. I can understand the kids celebration. He wants it to end. He's correct, they must move on, eles you're going to be in trouble Saturday.

U-Dub Huskies POV: Great apple cup quotes for the ages “I’ve always felt that being a Cougar prepares you well for life. You learn not to expect too much." - UW coach Don James, 1983 "There are four important stages in your life. You're born, you play the Huskies, you get married, and you die." - All-American WSU guard Dan Lynch, 1984 "I'll count every one of them (days until the next Apple Cup). I'm going to ask myself, 'What did I do as a football coach today to beat the Huskies?' " - WSU coach Dennis Erickson, 1987 "To just think about losing this game makes me want to puke."- UW lineman Trevor Highfield, 1995 “I wouldn’t have taken a recruiting trip there even if they strangled me. I’d die first. (Pullman) is a place where you can go and have a good time, as far as there being a lot of drunk people.” - UW receiver Andre DeSaussure, 1998
