The NBA regular season is near the finish line. And it’s a usual practice to see teams that are not contending for the playoffs give more time for their young prospects. One of those prospects is Aleksej Pokusevski from the Oklahoma City Thunder. But with the 20-year-old 210 cm forward there are more questions than answers.
In this video, BasketNews’ Augustas Suliauskas analyzes Serbian’s game and if he is showing enough right now to gain a bigger role in the upcoming season.

Maybe. Maybe not. The more interesting question is whether or not he will become a star playing for the Thunder. I'd say it as simple as this: If OKC doesn't draft Chet Holmgren, then yes, he was the potential to become a star on the Thunder. If OKC drafts Chet Holmgren, then no, he won't become a star unless he goes to a different team because his role and style of play will be overshadowed by Chet Holmgren.

Pokusevski was 17 pick, Bender was 4 pick! Much higher expectations were on Bender's side. But Pokusevski has already done more in 2 seasons than Bender in all his time playing in the NBA. Poku is still only 20 years old, he turns 21 in December! I think that in a couple of seasons he will show all his talent, he may not be All star level but he will certainly be a great NBA player.

Presti have poku on a special training and conditioning thru out that time, you can see that he putted some weight went from 190 pounds to 215 which is still an jump from last year. Thanks for the great analysis, and since I'm Serbian too, will try to be as objective as I can. Watching him play more minutes now, I really feel he is becoming noticable better every game. I think he will find his place in the NBA being in the top in the next 3 years.

People that don't watch all OKC games might not know how comfortable he is getting when playing more and more. His first season he got much better with more playing time but then was very poor when the following season started. Once again he got more playing time and got significantly better. He is very smart player with long arms and really good speed on fast breaks makes him pretty much unstopable in this aspect. He is so young that we should still treat him as a rookie. Just as you said - next 3 years will give us some answers and I believe he will be at least a solid player and later on perhaps even an All-Star.

Yep Poku went from 190 pounds to 225, OKC is really taking care and growing his physicality & conditioning while developing his game. No wonder Poku got alot better in blocking and rebounding the ball his handle too, he improved his shooting,playmaking & defense a bit this year

If you can pull a triple double at your 20th you are good enough to play in the NBA. Seen some highlights of Poku and he is maybe only a bit short of exciting but definitely a good player for his age. Only that last dunk at end of the video, that was a bit too much 😂 nonetheless a brave attempt and better to try then not to try, if it went in it was the play of the day 👌

No trolling. He's actually decent this season. 2nd most important player for OKC, who makes good decisions on offense, coach Daigneault said he's a connector on it. His 3pt shooting has improved massively, when he's shoots the ball now it actually looks like he can make that shot. Defense is where he has exceeded this season the most averaging 6th highest number of blocks per game and his size has always helped him to cut passing lanes plus being a good side defender.

I personally feel his spot on the Thunder would be in jeopardy if OKC were to draft Chet Holmgren because then that would give them two of the exact same player. That's all I'm going to say because whom the Thunder will draft will play a huge role in deciding the fate of Aleksej Pokuševski. If they draft Chet Holmgren, the uniqueness of Pokuševski will be compromised.

poku and chet play nothing like each other. They are just tall, have long wingspans, and are super skinny. Chet plays like a PF/C and Poku plays like a small forward. They are both good off the ball so they should coexist very well together.
@vishnujayakumar1846
@vishnujayakumar1846 2 года назад
@@nicholasshort6285 Their frames are similar as 7-footers who weigh less than 200 lbs, what do you mean by they're not similar? They are both lanky light 7-footers who hover in the 190-200 lbs range. Also, due to his weight, I can see Chet Holmgren playing some PF in the NBA next year and if he is on the Thunder, that's the same position as Pokuševski. I'm not fully confident in Pokuševski's ability to play SF full-time and I don't think he'll get that many minutes there since Lu Dort is the confirmed starter at SF in Oklahoma City. In comparison to Chet, I feel Banchero's skills would work better with and complement Pokuševski. Banchero and Pokuševski seem different from a body type and style of play standpoint whereas Holmgren and Pokuševski have identical frames and body types from a height and weight standpoint. Pokuševski and Chet also play too similarly too.
@nicholasshort6285
@nicholasshort6285 2 года назад
@@vishnujayakumar1846 I am saying that their playstyles are completely different, I literally mentioned that their frames are almost identical. Poku will not be a starter, he will definitely be off the bench for sure which is why I think they can be on the same team and elevate each others games. Lu Dort's ability to play off the ball as well as him being a literal top 3 perimeter defender in the league is too valuable to bench.

He should model his game to the likes of Durant but not force it .. He can handle the ball all he needs is to polish his shooting and consistency. In terms of shooting moves he should study Nowitzkis' fadeaway and he'll be unguardable. Once he has a solid jumper he can dictate his pacing.

@Urukgali
@Urukgali 2 года назад
I'm sure everybody in OKC belive in his skills so that's not a problem. It's more about the roster itself and him needing much more playing time. When he feels comfortable on the court he will get enough playing time and he will significantly improve. OKC is probably the best team for him or any other young player.
